Who: Chiaki Nanami & Blaine.
Where: A pizza parlor in Ecruteak City.
When: Sunday afternoon, March 9th.
Summary: Nanami cashes in her writing contest prize to have dinner with a gen 1 gym leader with an awesome mustache.
Rating: G.
Log:

[ After calling the newspaper as directed, Nanami had of course picked out one of the Kanto gym leaders from the list. If she was going to go out, it was of course going to be with a video game character! ...Well, granted, all of the NPCs were video game characters, but not all of them were from the games she'd played. So it had to be one of those. And Blaine...he'd asked all those trivia questions, and had just been so cool...! So he was her pick.

Having to choose the place to go was a bit harder for her. Admittedly this was a bill that the newspaper would be footing more or less, but...fancy places weren't really of any interest to Nanami, and so she'd picked a pizza parlor at which to meet.

It had an arcade, after all...maybe they could have a match or something later...?

Despite the arcade, Nanami is miraculously sitting in a booth waiting for her gym leader match-up, although she admittedly it playing a game on her gear as she waits. She can't help herself, although she will immediately power off the second Blaine comes in. ]

[Ecruteak City is a long way from Cinnabar Island, but Blaine can't precisely say he minds; he's been too fired up at the prospect of having been selected as the prize for the newspaper's writing contest. Naturally that sort of thing did wonders for a leader's ego — particularly since his gym is one of the least-frequented in the entire Johto/Kanto circuit. It's always nice to feel important and relevant, especially when you're getting on in years like he is.

He's right on time, of course, and comes strolling in at their arranged meeting time on the dot. The newspaper had sent him a name, so if nothing else he knows he's looking for a young lady. Other than that, though, he'll have to wait and be recognized himself.

Not that he minds. There's that ego thing again.

So, looking sharp as always, he doffs his hat once he's in the entryway of the pizza parlor, and brightly surveys the surroundings in search of his possible evening's companion.]

[Aha! There's the fiery little lass who took the first prize in the writing competition. As most strangers tend to do on a first meeting (or a platonic blind date), Blaine spends a few quick moments taking stock of his companion for the duration. Fortunately, he's a man who spends his time surrounded by Scientists and Super Nerds, so Nanami's already got a lot going for her in comparison.]

Hah! So there's the red-hot trainer I've been brought here to meet!

[And over he walks, politely motioning with his hat in an abbreviated tip by way of greeting.]

Is your name Chiaki Nanami?

[CLEARLY HE DOES because that is how personalities work, obviously.

When there is one thing you like you apply it to every aspect of your life possible.

Case in point: Chiaki Nanami.]

How nice of you, young lady! Now, I have only one condition before things kick off — the first rule of the afternoon is, the bill is on me. So don't hold back! I'm fired up to have a great time today!

Excellent! Well done!

[He'll just dive into his own, as well.]

Once we've ordered, why don't you tell me about your Pokemon team? Ahaha, unless you're afraid that will give me the advantage when you come to challenge me someday!
