Who: Laurice Butz and Barnabas Stinson
Where: Um....wherever they are?
When: Shortly after this phone call.
Summary: Larry has something of a girlfriend. Barney responds with issues.
Rating: PG (at most? Will change should rating change)
Log:
Barney couldn't say he was looking forward to this talk. He hated conflict, of any kind and especially hated conflict between friends. He didn't want to feel that loneliness again, when Ted had told him that he didn't want to be friends anymore. Yes they'd made up, but still. It had happened.
And Larry was his closest friend here. His partner in crime, his bro, his wingman. And now he had a girlfriend. And yes, Ur was nice and pretty cool, but still. What if they kept getting closer and got married and left him behind because he was clearly the third wheel and where was Lily when he needed her because she would be able to help him with this! And what if he made a move on Ur and ended up repeating his mistake with Robin?
Still, he dragged his feet to the usual place, halfheartedly looking for Larry.

And Larry was indeed already in the usual place: their hangout spot near the dance theater, with some drinks already made up for them. Ur was going to be out training that day, so it helped give the two some private time to work things out.
When Barney said that Larry was causing some problems, he wasn't really sure what to think about it. The subject wouldn't stay out of his mind after he hung up with his friend earlier. Hopefully they really could work things out here.
When Barney appeared, Larry gave him a small wave to call him over.
"Hey, man."

Barney knew this was bad. He couldn't even appreciate the kimono girls. That's how he knew he was stressed out. This sucked, this really really sucked, but somehow he knew he had to have this conversation. He didn't want to end up with another Ted.
"Hey bro. How's it going?"
no subject
"Pretty good, actually! I started packing up so we can head to Mahogany soon." Because really, Ecruteak was getting pretty old since they had been there so long. They had seen practically everything the last time they stayed in the city for a while.

Barney pauses to order a drink. If they're gonna talk, he's going to want something strong in him to help with the conversation.

Yes, it was pretty obvious that Larry was hoping to start the conversation off on a high note before they got into the more serious topic at hand. But he wasn't sure how obvious it was coming off. Only time would tell, really.
no subject
It was kind of obvious. Barney knew how to watch for these things, especially considering his conversations with Lily. And he was not going to bite. He downed his scotch and ordered another.

He wished that it was really was just another night of hanging out and talking about girls and Pokemon. But unfortunately, they'd have to get through their grievances soon.

He sighed, downing his drink again and asking for a third.
"Are the Kanto gym leaders just as good looking?"
no subject
"Y'know, she probably does from what I've seen." Larry remembered that hot-crazy scale discussion they had not too long ago, and admittedly, it actually got him to start applying it some women. "They're not bad. But there were only like two or three of them."
no subject
He sighed, staring into his drink. He needed to find another topic fast or else Larry was going to spring the conversation on him and he didn't want that. He might actually start talking about that stuff now.
no subject
He was genuinely curious about this, so good job on delaying the talk for a little longer, Barney?
no subject
"No one's gone completely insane, but we usually left town before anything went critical."
Avoiding the talk? He can deal with that.
no subject
He knew the Joys weren't exactly girlfriends, but Barney should get it.

He sighed, trying to remember what Larry had told him.
"I don't suppose Ur's like that."
no subject
Oh, there it was. The mention of Ur. The way Barney said that just set off signals in Larry's mind. Was she the issue here?
He nodded glumly. "Yeah, she's not. She's..." He paused, briefly comparing Ur to his previous girlfriends, "She's nothing like any of them."
He then turned to Barney, face solemn. "Barney...is this about her?"
no subject
That probably wasn't the best subject and he figured he should just let it drop with that.
And then there was Larry's question. Barney sighed. How. How had Larry not picked up on this? Seriously, it was like trying to give Ted a hint and he didn't have a Lily to point it out to him.
"Yeah. It's about her."
no subject
Larry stared at Barney, dumbfounded that his relationship with Ur could be causing issues. They hadn't done anything that weird, right?
"What about her?" He finally responded, tone defensive.
no subject
"It's just...you and her and the being together thing..." Barney rolled his eyes. He shouldn't have done this. He hated confrontation, especially about things like this. He needed Lily or Robin. Hell Robin would be a godsend in this situation.
"You're a couple."
Sorry this took so long.
He was totally missing the point, and he knew it. He just didn't want to admit that he remembered Barney saying something about not liking relationships.

And he ends up wondering where he fits in and if he'll get left behind and what would happen to him if that was the case and all that other stuff that he doesn't like thinking about.
no subject
He turned away and started to play with his drink, at a loss at what to say next. Eventually, he spoke up again. "What about it bugs you?"
no subject
"Look, it's like this. You're a couple. A couple is two people. It's not like we're the three musketeers or whatever. There's you guys, and then there's me. I feel like a third wheel and that you guys are going to go off and get married and I'm going to be left behind..."
And he was babbling. He'd had too much to drink and now everything was coming out and at least he'd stopped himself before he got to the part about Ted dying alone, eaten by cats.
