The Kanto Biregional Tournament: OPEN BATTLES LOG
Who: All participants and their pokemon! (for general mingling, check here)
Where: Vermilion City & surrounding area.
When: Nov 5th to the 22nd, FORWARD- AND BACK- DATING FRIENDLY
Summary: It's the big tournament! Get your battle on!
Rating: PG-13 for poggleman violence.
Log:
Like a good drill sargeant, he's making his rounds. Double-checking and triple-checking, making sure the facilities are spartan. His Gym, his training center, and the local sports arena have all been repurposed for the tourney, their safety equipment ready to activate in the case of Fire Blasts or Earthquakes gone out of control. There's games to play for the little ones come to cheer their parents, sales to be shopped for bored spouses, most of the town's hotels are booked solid. Roark and Brock both came to make sure the fossils were in top shape. All in all, he's pretty pleased with himself.
He's got his speech all laid out, his best suit on (not even camo, Misty had been surprised), all that's left is crossing his fingers for good weather...and good sportsmanship. He thinks about all the newcomers filling out his brackets and stands. Whitney had argued to cut them out of it, saying they were all crazy and mean besides. Surge is reserving judgement.
Raichu bounds up and onto his shoulder, nosing the graying blonde hair at his temple.
"If I wound up in a strange place without you, I'd be pretty lost," he admits softly, reaching up to scratch her behind the ear. She 'chu's gently back.
As he exits the gym, one of his trainers runs up, pauses, salutes and waits.
"The opening ceremonies are ready to start, sir!"
"I'll be over, make sure they're ready for me."
"Sir, yes, sir!"
And off the kid goes again, gangly-limbed Luxio at his heels. Surge makes Raichu walk. It's time to get this show on the road.
Let the games begin!

Riku vs Sasuke | Standard Cup | Round 3
He might've slipped up in Elite, but that was okay. At least here he'd get to put his skills to the test.
But to come head to head to Sasuke... it's really kind of ironic. He'd been traveling with the group for a while, and Riku'd seen how far his team came from their early days. And now, he's finally got the chance to test Sasuke's skills as well as his own.
The roaring crowd, the boisterous announcer... they all put him a little on edge, but if his team can tackle huge level gaps and professional trainers, they can handle another round, even if it's against an acquaintance like Sasuke.
So, as he steps up to the arena's center, he keeps a cool exterior.]
Don't expect me to hold back.
no subject
[The first battle was difficult, and the second was even moreso. He had barely made it out, but in the end he still won. And, with the match he was facing... He had hoped that this match wouldn't come until the finals, but with the match occurring then he probably wouldn't complain.
Of all the people in the tournament, Riku had to have been the one Sasuke watched the most. His matches, his training, everything to prepare for a fight against him. But a win against him wouldn't mean anything if Riku wasn't going to put all of his effort into it. It seemed like, even with his friend leaving, he was back on his game then.
The expectancy of the crowd and of his opponent prompted a shiver so slight that most wouldn't notice, and the anticipation brought a smirk to his expression as he pulled out the first ball.]
Let's go.
[He threw the ball high into the air then, letting out Samurott in a flash of bright light. Normally, he started with Ino. But Riku deserved a different approach than that.]
no subject
Good ol' Stealth Rock. With the stage set, Riku watches Sasuke and his Pokémon, one hand reaching for his belt.]
no subject
Focus Energy.
[His words were a little softer and less energetic than they had been in the previous battles, but only because he was more focused on watching Riku's tells than anything else. Anything that would aid him in seeing just what he was doing. If nothing else could be said about Sasuke, it was that he had a keen sense of observation.
Samurott almost seemed to gain a faint white aura in response to the order, eyes dilating while it started to try and identify every possible weak spot on its opponent. Anything that would be an opening.]
no subject
The Porygon2 clicks and whirrs, body twitching. Its eyes narrow, and it rears back its head. Riku spins back around, eying Samurott once again. Sparks form around Gigabyte's bill.
Hopefully Samurott doesn't mind a little jolt to his system!]
no subject
Revenge, now!
[Heeding the order, Samurott took advantage of the close range to slam Gigabyte into the ground hard. It was risky, but it was about all he could do if he wanted Samurott to knock it out and make it a non-threat.]
no subject
Seems he's not out of the game just yet.]
no subject
[Samurott's eyes glowed white briefly and locked with Gigabyte's just as they opened again. Samurott was already wobbling, but if Gigabyte was locked into using Rest again then it would be a sleeping target for him to pick at. He wasn't about to let Riku undo that damage without paying for it.
Still, Samurott wouldn't last much longer. He had to end this for it, and fast before he got knocked out.]
no subject
He might be at a level disadvantage, but the digging definitely provides cover for the time being.]
no subject
[Not good. One good hit and Samurott would go down, but there was always the chance that it would miss. If Samurott kept moving, it would have better odds of missing.
But luck wasn't on Sasuke's side. When Drench resurfaced, it was right beneath Samurott's stomach and the pokémon couldn't help roaring with the pain and surprise of the sudden strike. That was when he jumped back, huffing out a breath before he acted on his own and launched a glowing blue shell at the smaller pokémon, having already determined just where it would hurt the most.]
no subject
Grruuuurrrr...
[His body lights up. The evolution music echoes throughout the stadium. Drench's body grows bigger and bigger until the light fades, revealing one pissed off looking Marshtomp.]
Gaaaawwwwrrrrr!
[Immediately, he digs back under. Drench wants to finish this now. Forget healing!
Riku stares for a few seconds and then, with a snicker, lowers his arms to his sides.]
Well, there's a surprise.
no subject
SAMUROTT IS DOWN FOR THE COUNT! I WONDER WHAT THE TRAINER'S NEXT POKÉMON WILL BE!
[The announcer snapped Sasuke out of it and he shook it off, scoffing and returning the exhausted battler to his ball. Next out was Hiruzen, and Sasuke could already see the pain his prized Blaziken was in upon switching out; injuries appeared seemingly out of no where, but no doubt it was from the set-up Drench had placed before.]
Quick Attack!
[Upon hearing the order, Hiruzen shook off its pain and darted forward in a burst of light, striking at Drench squarely in the chest.]
no subject
Riku's hand twitches a little, but he simply shrugs and shakes his head. Drench returns to his Pokéball, as an enormous Arcanine bursts into view. Appropriate, given his name.
Tail wagging, Burst first takes a look at Hiruzen before digging his way underground. Digging is fun! Fun, fun fun... for everyone that isn't weak to it. Ruff!
Riku relaxes once Burst's back under the ground. Drench was the weakest in the party, but at least he got the job done.]
no subject
Sand Attack!
[With a low sweeping motion Hiruzen kicked up the dirt on the field, right towards Burst's eyes. It also seemed incredibly wobbly then, but Sasuke wasn't about to give that Arcanine the chance to recover.]
Hiruzen, use Slash!
[He would have loved to use Blaze Kick, but after seeing what fire did to Riku's Arcanine even before it evolved, he was going to avoid it like the plague. It took a moment for Hiruzen to regain his footing before charging forward, talons stretched in preparation for the move. But would he make it in time?]
no subject
Sorry, birdy, but if you're gonna play mean like that, you're goin' down! Burst doesn't like it when people try to cloud his vision. :'[]
no subject
There seemed to be a sort of fire in Sasuke's eyes when he returned Hiruzen, placing the ball on his belt before he threw out his third and final pokémon.] Ino, Mean Look and Confuse Ray!
[Ino, upon release, screeched at the sharp pain around her, shaking it off and flapping high into the air. Once recovered she dived to get close to Burst, her eyes locked with his and first glowing blue, then purple. It only took a brief few moments for it to be over, since never took long to trap and bewilder her opponents with those once she had eye-contact.]
no subject
Burst's stance straightens right away, and he glances at Riku. With one snap of his trainer's fingers, he tears towards Ino, his mouth open and teeth bared. However, what looks like a regular old Crunch attack changes once sparks start forming around his teeth, and he delivers one electrifying bite to the bat.
Riku flashes his Pokémon a thumbs up.]
no subject
[For an instant, there was genuine worry on his face. No out of the desire to win, but out of concern for his pokémon. He hadn't seen if she had managed to...
As if to interrupt his thoughts, Ino wriggled and shrieked after having swallowed something. The sparks from the attack broke off of her the moment she was done and she locked eyes with Burst, using her hypnotic eyes to confuse him again before finally breaking free. She was breathing hard, but it seemed like she was still full of energy. The sight was enough to calm Sasuke a bit.]
WE'VE SEEN SOME INCREDIBLE BERRY USAGE THIS TOURNAMENT, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BUT NOTHING AS OVER THE TOP AS THIS LAST ROUND! THE BERRIES USED TO CLEAR STATUSES AND REDUCE DAMAGE COULD ONLY HAVE BEEN PLACED BY SOME OF THE BEST! WHAT AMAZING STRATEGY!
[Sasuke, however, didn't seem as pleased. That was supposed to be used to counter Gigabyte. He hadn't counted on Burst knowing Thunder Fang... Now he had to be extremely careful as he felt his chances of victory quickly slipping away. But at least now that move would work for him.]
Acrobatics!
no subject
This'll be a close call. If Burst can shake off his confusion or at least land some hits, maybe he can finish this without sending out Giga. If not, there's one fully healed Porygon2 waiting to send sparks flying.]
no subject
Cross poison!
[He had only discovered that Ino knew that move recently, but he needed Ino to hit one of Burst's weak spots to end it. He still had Gigabyte to worry about too... Ino tensed, a vivid purple cross appearing across her wings before she charged directly into Burst, fierce determination behind her action.]
no subject
With a growl, Burst prepares another attack, only to-- OOF! Hurt himself in confusion. Care to try again?]
no subject
[Apparently not. Sasuke was determined to make Burst faint, and he was going to try whatever he could to manage it. Ino performed the move with ease, but she was sweating. She was getting tired from the effort going into battling Burst. Just how much health did that Arcanine even have?!]
no subject
One more Acrobatics will push him to his limit. If he hits himself in confusion, it's all over, except...
Burst shakes it off after nailing himself. His eyes narrow, and he lowers his head. Give him your best shot, bat!]
no subject
One more time!
[Ino flew towards him again at top speed, but a slight shift was enough for the move to miss. Startled that her wings hadn't made contact, she turned as if to try again. But, by then, she was far too close to Burst to gain the speed needed to attack, or to get away.]
no subject
CHOMP!
Another Thunder Fang, his last attempt at a KO. Riku heaves an audible sigh as his Arcanine bites down.
Talk about a close call.]
