You're Caught in a One-Way Street
Who: Meridiana (
occultigen) and YOU!
Where: Goldenrod City
When: Monday, December 8th
Summary: Back home in the salons of Victorian London, Meridiana was acclaimed as a divine seeress capable of predicting people's futures. Today, at an outdoor cafe in Goldenrod City, she's trying her hand at it again for any interested parties who might pass by.
Rating: PG!
Log:
[After beginning to confront a bunch of her canon-related issues last week, Meridiana's been quietly contending with her past and working to turn her thoughts to that of the future. It isn't an easy task by any means, but she's taking it one step at a time, and as far as she's concerned, any progress is good progress — which is the same as could be said for her attempts at getting used to the modern day and age, really.
So today, on what forecasts have been indicating to be one of the last reasonably nice days before more frigid temperatures start to set in, she's sitting at one of the outdoor tables of a cafe in Goldenrod, facing the street and playing with a pack of tarot cards. Every so often, she'll turn up one of the major arcana and give it an uncomfortable look; most of the time, though, she's shifting and arranging them with practiced and familiar ease. This sort of reading in particular isn't what she'd gained renown for back in London, but there's a certain comfort to it just the same — and really, she's hardly going to complain about offering a prediction the old-fashioned way, as opposed to even considering an attempt to draw on the unusual supernatural powers that remind her of her previous circumstances anyway.
She's got a little handmade sign up (which her Tropius is helpfully displaying for her), so if you happen to be passing by and would like to sit and have your fortune told — or even just stop by to chat a while — feel free to pause and say hello!]
[OOC: Okay, so! This is an open log for people in Goldenrod who'd like to stop in and interact with Meridiana, either just to hang out or to use her fortune-telling as a hook! As a standard disclaimer, I am not anywhere close to being an expert at this myself, so I'll be using this website for any readings she's asked to give and just going with whatever it returns; if you'd prefer to handwave something or for character/plot reasons would prefer to have her give your character a specifically-tailored prediction or result, feel free to let me know and we can swing it that way as well! And of course, you're not obligated to ask for one; you're just as welcome to chat and hang out with her instead!]

On his way back to the house he spots the Tropius first and Meridiana herself second, slowing down to a stop when he draws near so he can read the sign. Near his feet stands a Flareon, who seems to be lending her natural heat to keep this poor child from freezing out here.]
Ooh...you tell fortunes?
no subject
Why, yes! I've been trying my hand at it for most of today; would you like one told?
no subject
I would, if you don't mind.
[He's never had his fortune told before, so why not?]
no subject
[And then she kind of hesitates a little; this has been giving her trouble all day, don't mind her, she's doing her best at it.]
With...Christmas on the way, I'm hoping to earn a little something for it, so if you wouldn't mind agreeing to a small fee for the reading?
[This is actually really hard for her to make herself do, poor thing.]
no subject
Oh, of course not! I wouldn't expect for you to do it without anything in return, after all.
[Thanks to the moneycats he inherited, he...actually has more money than he knows what to do with half the time.]

[She picks up her cards, beginning to shuffle them with quiet ease.]
As I shuffle the cards, then, I'll ask you to please tell me when to stop three times; the cards you ask me to stop on will form a spread that speaks of your past, your present, and your future.

Here, then, is the card that represents your past, and it's...
[She turns it over.]
...The Three of Cups. This card represents a sense of community, or of people coming together to achieve a common goal; it suggests that in your past, you had very strong friendships or those you were close to in some way, a tight-knit group of people who meant a great deal to you. It also suggests that you found comfort from your problems in your friends, and perhaps by bringing about some sort of change in yourself. Found in your past, it suggests that prior to now, you and those around you helped each other in some way, and all ended up for the better because of it.
no subject
Oh...yes.
[It comes out in a little whisper, more confirming what she's saying than anything else. He can't really believe it, but it's...spot on to say the least. So it would be easy to say that he's hanging on to her her every word, waiting to see what the next card will be.]

[She turns over the next card.]
The Chariot. This is a fine card to have in your present; it's a card of success and accomplishment at whatever goal you might be pursuing or seeking at the moment. It reminds one that in moving forward toward a victory, one must be confident and bold, and that so long as you remain determined and persevere, no difficulties will be able to hold you back. Found in your present, The Chariot is a sort of encouragement; it says to have discipline, assert yourself, and find the strength to overcome the obstacles that might seem to be in your way.
no subject
Oh my...that is very nice. And...and very true, I would say.
[And still really, really accurate.]

[She turns over the final card.]
The Ace of Pentacles. That's a fine card for a place in the future, and especially so with the Chariot behind it; the Ace of Pentacles suggests a manifestation of goals, and a time of making dreams a reality. Overcoming the obstacles in your present will be rewarded with a success, and with new opportunities; it also suggests the future might be a time for trying something new or attempting something you might not ordinarily do. Again, it's a card that encourages bravery in your endeavors, and suggests that you'll be rewarded for it.
no subject
I do hope I will be able to overcome those obstacles.
[A time to attempt something he might not ordinarily do...]
I may have never had my fortune told before, but I'm glad I did, now. Thank you very much.

[Cough cough SHE ALSO ACCEPTS TIPS.]
no subject
You know...I plan on breeding another clutch of eggs very soon. If you would like, I can let you have your pick of them when they are all here.
[He would offer them for free, but they were already going to be free to begin with.]
no subject
Oh! Why, thank you, that's so very kind! I would like that, really, and I very much appreciate the thought.

[You know you want a thundercat. Everybody wants a thundercat.
Once he's given her the money he slips out of his chair, looking down when his Flareon nudges her head into his hand.]
I think I should be heading home now, but it was very nice speaking with you. And thank you for the fortune! I will certainly be keeping it in mind.
