Why Don't You Go Where Fashion Sits?
Who: Participants of the Kalosmas New Year's Event!
Where: The Hotel Richissime, in scenic Lumiose City, Kalos!
When: Wednesday, December 31 - Thursday, January 1!
Summary: After all the shenanigans of Hoennween, it's about time everybody had a chance to relax and unwind, courtesy of some actually benign NPCs. With all the luxuries of the Hotel Richissime waiting at their disposal, that shouldn't be too difficult a prospect!
Rating: PG in general; please mark threads that go higher accordingly!

A FEW OTHER SETTING NOTES:
• At the moment, this log spans the entirety of the New Year's Eve plot, so starters may be posted for any time on either day of the event. If things start getting massive and it looks like an overflow log will be necessary, we'll definitely see about putting one up, and will link it to this one if need be.
• The Event Itinerary can be found here! Remember that participating in this course of events is not mandatory, but it's what will be going on in the grand scheme of things over the course of the event.
• All event participants are being housed on the fourth and fifth floors of the hotel. Your bedrooms are laid out like this; if you participated in our IC Rooming Roulette, you can find your buddy on this table here!
• Most activities here will be free! ICly, your characters will use their room cards to "pay" for most things, and the charges will be applied to their room (which of course, they are not paying for personally). Gift shops, parts of the casino, and food not provided as part of the event are not chargeable to your rooms and characters will have to use their own money in those locations.
• Underage characters may use the casino; however, they may be subject to some social scrutiny and side-eyeing in the event that they attempt to get in on one of the high-roller tables.
A NOTE ABOUT USING THREADS ON THIS LOG FOR AC:
Because of how our AC period works (the grace week into January still counting toward December), all threads on this log are valid toward December's AC, regardless of timestamp! However, because the log technically spans two different months and we want to encourage tagging out on it, we have also made this decision:
On this log and this log alone, comment threads timestamped in January (OOCly) that reach AC-length may be used towards January's AC, as well. Therefore, if a thread on this log reaches AC length with 10+ comments timestamped in January, you can use it toward January's AC (assuming the same thread has not already been used to satisfy December's AC).

MAIN EVENT INFOPOST | QUESTIONS FOR MODS

Miriam, his Skitty, is perched on the table in front of him. There isn't anything special about New Year's. Nothing changes. At least he can be comfortable someplace, for a little while.]
no subject
And usually the person who does is a ginger jackass who doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut.]
Hey, that's a cute cat.
no subject
Thank you.
[That works, right?]
no subject
[He crouches down, more than happy to offer that attention in the form of an outstretched hand; there are worse things in the world than being seen doting on a cute animal, after all.]
What's its name?
no subject
[Who immediately begins nuzzling the outstretched hand with a quiet purr.
Scar, meanwhile, doesn't know what else to do. So he just continues to sit there.]
no subject
[It's not that he's a cat person per se, but there's always something about cats in particular that seems to amuse him inexplicably; Miriam is reaping the rewards of that, being the recipient of chin scratches and ear rubbings for her efforts.]
Is that why you're back here? She doesn't like crowds?

She wasn't even certain if he'd show up to this portion of events, but she'd made a deal with herself. If he did, she'd speak to him. Honestly and without the double meaning dance of careful phrases and non-admittance. She was done. She drove herself mad over him too often. She couldn't keep living in this odd emotional limbo any longer. She meant it this time.
He probably wouldn't even be there.
But he was. And she found him, finally,in the garden, and hung back to look at him a moment. He looked handsome, in formal attire. There was that distracting fluttery sensation in the pit of her stomach. After a few steadying breaths - for god's sake, he was just a man - she smoothed her dress and approached.
"Good evening. Could I have a few moments of your time to talk? I won't keep you long."
no subject
Other than his time to quietly brood.
no subject
She held a glass in her hand but it was clear she hadn't been drinking from it. She looked down at it now though, rather than him. Perhaps she was a bit of a coward, already she was backing down in a way.
No. She was just...potentially cushioning an unpleasant blow
"Please let me speak until I've finished." She needed to get it out all at once, or it wouldn't be said at all.
"It's a new year soon. This last one has been...tumultuous. But I've settled into my life here, and so have you and we've spent too long already dancing around each other and struggling to maintain this delicate balance of alluding to our feelings without admitting or acknowledging them. Feelings are like sickly infants, they must be either nurtured or left to fade. Someone told me about a tradition from their world, that whoever you see the new year in with, you'll see it out with. I'm going to be on the other side of the garden when the midnight fireworks begin. Either find me and watch them with me and give me that sign that there's something for me to wait for, or don't and I won't ever bring up our feelings again. You don't even have to say anything, either way. Just be there or don't be there, but once we make some sort of decision we'll both be happier."
She felt like she was going to be violently sick.
no subject
He nodded, failing to brush off the nagging sensation at how pathetic it was that they had to resort to this. Nonverbal reassurances that they were even remotely on the same page. He briefly glanced away, trying to find a clock, but his eyes were drawn back to hers before he could find one. How long would it be? She looked just as nervous as he felt.
He knew she wasn't looking for a spoken answer, but he didn't want either of them to have to stand and wait for however long it would be. He knew he would only feel sicker and sicker, that the longer he let himself think, the more likely it would be that he would do something foolish. So,
"I'll be there." Yes, he almost lost his dinner.
no subject
And then he went and did exactly the opposite of...everything, essentially. It was like being stricken in an entirely different way. She felt the air go out of her and her legs felt weak in the calves. Shaky. She realized she was trembling.
"Oh." It was the first thing that came when she opened her mouth to speak. She couldn't seem to look away from him, even though suddenly his eyes on hers were uncomfortably intent. "Good. I...I'm glad we talked."
She didn't know what to say. For all the days and nights of thinking and wondering and idle daydreams, she realized she never thought anything would ever really come to be.
Now what?

Mr. Scar! [She's way too comfortable with approaching a giant man stuffed like a sausage into a suit.] How are you? This place is easy to get swept up in, isn't it?
no subject
[It's the most talkative he's been all night, but it's always easiest, with Maka. He doesn't know why he's never told her simply to call him Scar, but... he doesn't mind the Mr.]
Miriam is bound to tear someone's dress or get stepped on, otherwise.
[He reaches for the Skitty, gently patting the top of her head.]
no subject
[That doesn't seem true, Miriam looks like a very well-behaved little Skitty. But questioning adults openly isn't reeeeeally a habit Maka wants to get into, besides--Scar's never done anything to annoy her or make life difficult, he doesn't deserve getting called out.]
Do you mind if I stay for a little while, too? Kali and I were just looking for a place to chill out while my Sylveon takes the Pokemon I hatched up to my room.
[She has an incredibly active life for someone that just wants to be left along a lot.]
no subject
I don't mind.
[Parties aren't exactly his thing. He's spent the majority of the night just off to the side. At least he tried.]
no subject
Both are probably uncomfortably close to Scar, like he's a friend or something.]
You look nice all dressed up, Mr. Scar, I bet a lot of people have been asking you to dance.

[And oh yes there he is, in the garden. Found him, problem solved. Envy walks by without saying anything, mostly just intending to pretend that whatever the hell this is isn't happening and get back to the party. Except the Meowstic at his side decides that she wants to go say hi to Miriam instead. So off Clara goes, clambering up onto the table and mewing a hello to Miriam.]
Wh--hey, Clara, come on.
[NOPE, TRAINER, SHE'S SOCIALIZING.]
no subject
Miriam is happy to see Clara, and Scar is more than happy to let the other Pokémon interact with his until he figures out what trainer is attached to it. He looks up at Envy's with narrowed eyes.]
She's fine.
[The Pokémon. Not you, though. That part's just implied. Strongly.]
no subject
[So he sits right on down at the next table over, leaning one elbow on it.]
Guess I'll just wait here, then.
Nice party, isn't it?
[He knows that Lust and Heather are stuck rooming with Scar so he's resisting the temptation to be a shit so hard right now.]
no subject
I don't care for parties.
no subject
She's soon followed by a young woman, who is about to yell at the flower fairy for flying away from her -- then she sees the adorable cat pokemon and the man.
ummmmmm. Well, he clearly wants to be alone for a while and honestly, she's not surprised by so many people here even if she's an extremely social girl herself. What now?]
Hey, corporal is waiting. We're going back now.
[Sounding like a fucking boss and remembering her priorities, that's what. Is the flower listening to her at all? Nope, too interested in new friend!]
no subject
Corporal?
[There's a military presence, here?]
no subject
Yes? Or well, no, it's a habit from home to call him that. It's not like our military titles actually really matter here.
[but she's a soldier and Levi hasn't said that she could call him Levi, so...!]
no subject
I see.
[Scar resumes his frowning in his seat.]
I was under the assumption that there was no militarization in this world. So the title caught me off guard.
[There's a discomforting edge in his tone. Not quite threatening, but grim.]
no subject
I wouldn't know if there is, I've only been for a few weeks and spent most of that time away from the network - for now. [healing process!] It's not like he's told me to let go off that title though, so ... [So she won't let go of using it!]
[Walking closer, because that flower fairy / fairy flower sure isn't listening to her at all right now and she can see why!]
Your cat is adorable.
