So Make A Wish On Heaven

Who: Participants of the Dream Plot!
Where: In your dreams!
When: Anytime your character is asleep on April 17th!
Summary: As promised, this is a catch-all log where people can post a character's dream as a top-level comment and allow other holders of our Mysterious Feathers™ to come visit them! Remember that the content of your dream is entirely up to your discretion, but we ask that you only have one, and to please also warn for content as needed!
Rating: PG, and please warn for threads that may go higher!
Log:

[Under the light of the full moon, the Mysterious Feathers™ begin to glow.

In the hours that follow after they sprawl out to sleep, those who had the good fortune (or at least the insatiable curiosity) to pick up one of those feathers earlier in the week will come to discover that something very strange is happening across the regions of Johto and Kanto. There's a saying about what happens when you let your mind wander; this time, though, it's a little more than just one's mind that's going wandering, as dream after dream stretches out before you like a horizon just begging to be chased.

Don't worry about getting lost, dreamers; as real and vivid as they may seem, your surroundings are really only visions and illusions, and in the end the failsafe way to escape from them is to simply wake up. If and when you do, you might feel perfectly well-rested or as on-edge as if you'd just jolted awake from a nightmare; like the dreams themselves, there's really no telling how the experience will play out for you, being different and unique to everyone.

But for now, you've got the whole night ahead of you, filled with places to go and people to see. Might as well make the most of it while it lasts...]

Asami Sato | Legend of Korra

((Content warning for death/loss of loved ones and violence, Book 4 spoilers.))

A ruined city stretches for miles. How far, exactly, you can't tell. By Earth's standards, the city could be dated to the 1920s, maybe the 30s and 40s if you squint. It isn't exactly clear, and neither is the cultural influence. There are glimmers of old New York among a melting pot of East Asian cultures. The billboards and business signs, however, are clearly in Chinese. Some buildings still stand tall enough to obscure a bystander's line of sight. Many are piles of rubble. Stranger are the thick vines growing through and in between what's left of the buildings and roads. Everything has been carefully designed to accommodate them.

Somewhere in the distance there are crashes of what sound like enormous metal footsteps, but you can't see what's causing them.

This isn't exactly what Republic City looked like on the day of Kuvira's attack. In reality, much of Downtown was still standing at this point. From here, one should have been able to see the calm of Yue Bay. But this is Republic City pulled from the terrified mind of Asami Sato, the woman who devoted much of her last three years building what now lies in ruin, and who could very easily be left with absolutely nothing when all of this is over.

She's the only person to be found on this abandoned street, sitting in an ejected cockpit chair, the deployed chute draped on the ground behind her. She's still strapped in, shell-shocked, ugly streams of mascara mixed with tears as she stares blankly ahead at her ruined home. She's out of options. There's nothing else she can even do to help.

Korra knows this place, duh, obviously, even if it isn't exactly like it should be at this point and that's why she's getting so worried as soon as she gets here. If these things are dreams or whatever, and she's still in the world of mystical creatures known as Pokemon and this thing's from her past, there's ...really only one reason why she would be here right now, right?

So she walks, looking around at the chaos there and noticing differences from how she remembers it being at this time. Not paying any attention to the huge metal steps, she doesn't need to go there today but the Avatar is clearly looking for something or someone.

Once Korra finds her from that street, her mind kind of just stops thinking and she's looking at Asami like she's scared here too. Her feet can't stop even for a second though, in fact they just get faster as Korra is running to Asami now when she can... This time she really can do this instead of fighting against that giant metal thing and Kuvira. So she gets there as fast as she can, throwing her arms around her lover as well as she can right now to try calm her down. Korra's here and she's definitely going to try making things at least a little better for her.

She pulls back soon though, she could continue after a while but first things first. Korra looks at Asami into her eyes, relieved but sad smile on her face because wow if she doesn't know exactly what's happened to her... Korra doesn't even notice or care that she herself has some tears in her eyes too.

Her hand brushes the other woman's cheek gently while she's looking at her and it goes to her hair from there. "... Let's get you out of that, okay?"

Well, okay but Korra is not going to wait for her reply while she's already starting to figure out how to get her out of it.

The illusion of the dream doesn't begin to crack until Korra is right here holding her. It doesn't make any sense, at first. She shouldn't be here. She should be at the mech, seizing their only chance...

Then she's suddenly aware that Korra survives, today. That's right. Korra wins. She's right here.

Asami couldn't say why if she had to, but fresh tears spring up at the gentle touch on her cheek. The familiar, resolute strength and underlying softness of Korra's voice, her hands, her embrace, give her something to hold onto. Korra grounds her, pulls her from the fog of intense grief and fear.

She had picked herself up, that day. Just like she'd always had to, these past four years. Now, just for once, someone else can do it for her. She doesn't have to relive this.

Asami is still tangibly shaking when her arms are free of the safety straps, and she reaches for Korra and clings to her.

"You're okay." It's more for Asami's sake than anything else. Dad is dead. Her achievements and hard work are ruined. But Korra's okay. That ugly, morbid question, will she make it, this time? is answered again, and once Asami knows, it feels like it's something she should have known from the start.

Korra always makes it.

Even if Asami can't tell why the tears spring there, Korra feels like she knows exactly why it happens. Her smile grows gentler if that's even possible and she's just trying to make sure Asami knows she's there and she's not going anywhere. She really won't have to do this alone this time.

She'd probably be surprised if Asami wasn't shaking. It just makes Korra feel even more like she really needs to make Asami feel that she's safe now. So when Asami clings to her, Korra returns the hug and holds her tight. Gently cuddling closer, rubbing the other woman's back a bit.

"I'm fine, I'll be fine in that fight too, remember? We'll be okay and I won't be going anywhere from here this time. You're not alone." This time she isn't.

This fight is over where they're from and Korra feels horrible for not being able to save mister Sato too, since her ice attack at least held the mech back for a while but not long enough to save them both. She doesn't let her mind slip into what kind of dream this could be if it hadn't happened, people just need to accept what happens and move on. She has so much more important thing to do right now than dwell in the past and thinking what could have been. Asami is safe, she's safe back in their actual real timeline too and that's the most important thing.

"I know, I just..." Asami's voice quivers, and she cuts herself off and buries her face in the crook of Korra's neck.

"I can't listen to it." The footsteps in the distance. "All I think about is him and I don't even know what to think of him and-" She cut off again.

"I was so scared. I am scared."

Even though the danger is longsince past. This is something she hasn't fully admitted to even herself, yet. She had told Dad that she loved him, and she'd meant it at the time. But how much had been fueled by fear? Unfair guilt? The heat of the moment, the danger they were all flying into? Would she have told him, otherwise?

No. She doesn't think she would have.

Asami's hold tightens on Korra.

Korra gives her all the time in the world to get the words out while she's gently petting her hair and back to try to make her feel at least a little better there.

She really wishes she could do something about those footsteps. Lead her inside a building, maybe? They would still hear them, no doubt about that, but maybe they'd at least quiet down some. She cloees her eyes for a moment. Just... hearing those words and Asami so sad is really heartbreaking.

"Don't be scared. I'm right here with you and that thing there is not going get past me to do anything to you."

That's easy to say, even if she realizes that that's not all Asami means if it's even anything she means by that. Just hearing those footsteps reminds Korra of that day too, and the moment of watching what happens and being unable to do anything about it.

"...And if you want to talk about him and need someone to listen and try to make you understand as much as anyone else can about what to think -- or what you think, about him... I'm right here. For you." Because Asami sure sounds like this talk should happen and Korra can at least try to help as much as she can.

She's actually just going to tighten her hold too and stay close to her.
