Having been both a bachelor at one point and also a soldier of war, Maes knew how to cook. But since arriving at Goldenrod, he'd been faced with the very uncomfortable and unfortunate truth of his cooking sucks. He'd been completely okay with it before he met Gracia, but since marrying her, he's been completely spoiled by fantastic food. And now that she's no longer with him, he's suddenly wondering how he managed to survive off of his own cooking for such a long time.

As such, he's decided that he'll just have to learn how to cook better. And if Gracia ever arrived in Johto, he'd be able to wow her with his fantastic cooking. ... or something close to that.

Either way, today, he's decided to start with baking. It couldn't be too horribly difficult, right? Put some ingredients together, stick it in a pan, shove in the oven. But just in case, he's invited (more like insisted) Sheska to join him. So, here is Maes, standing in his own kitchen, placing ingredients for an apple pie on the table, waiting for Sheska to show up.
