Kayneth took another good, long sip of wine-he knew he probably wouldn't have reacted as strongly if he hadn't had a conversation along those lines a while ago. He really just needed to get a handle on himself, here...

"...Yes. I'm aware," he said, somewhat sulkily. "People just have a tendency to be overly grim about it, that's all."

...it was really difficult to figure out how to respond to that last bit, because it wasn't the sort of thing he heard often. He didn't feel shocked by it or anything like that, it was just... strange. That wasn't exactly a thing mages said. So, in lieu of replying, he just stared contemplatively at his wine glass, because that seemed to be fairly popular during this conversation.
