Mom glanced over at him, gave him a small, tired smile by way of greeting. She tried to put some cheer into it, but she knew she flopped on that.

"Nope," she replied, resolutely looking at her cup rather than Bro. She wasn't sure if she could face him directly at the moment. Really, after a little over a month of these nightmares, Mom was surprised she was holding herself together at all. She was determined to not fall apart in front of Bro or at least to give it a good shot.
