They were both going to need new shoes, and also probably new coats. Shaun was paying about as much attention to any curious passerby as Blake was, if not even less considering that he didn't even see them. He almost had his breathing evened out, but his head still felt all woozy and cottoned from hyperventilating earlier, and his face was heated from the rush of oxygenated blood (and also from being pressed against Blake's neck).
From the timeline that he's from, Shaun is the lucky Mars. Every other Mars aside from his mother (who had been thinking about going back to her maiden name, which Shaun only knew because she'd tried to convince him it would be better if he let her change his name too) was dead. Of course, two near-drownings didn't seem lucky, but at least they were near-drownings, even if he was terrified of baths and rain.
Shaun clung tighter when Blake's grip shifted, and he sucked his lower lip between his teeth and took a shaky, nervous breath before repeating, "Don't say bad words."
