Blake knew what the kid was driving at, but it didn't make any sense. His brow knit in confusion.

It would be natural for the kid not to be paying much attention to anybody besides his dad. Shaun had been going on four days alone in a well without food or sleep and nearly died (Blake shoved away the rekindled rage about who would fucking do that to a kid), though, and could have missed a freight train.
From her place on Shaun's lap, Steve gave Blake a look that said clearly, Don't you dare upset this little boy.
"I saw Paige walk out with you and your dad, and I got the rest of the story straight from Jayden." The whole station had, as sickeningly unbelievable as it was. "You must've been confused. After all that, it's a miracle you were even conscious."
