Φ is also known as the Golden Ratio, [WHEN IN DOUBT, MATHS!] and is considered the mathematical basis of beauty. It encompasses basic symmetry as well as a pleasing distance between various features resulting in an object, face, or person that can be objectively identified as attractive on an instinctual level. People with a good Φ ratio, for instance, are the ones that infants prefer over any other kind of stranger, although preferences for the mother is still higher than the Φ ratio.
