Where: Ferry to Kanto, Pallet, Viridian and between those
When: From May 5th to... until the end of May, so this is kind of late
Summary: They travel to Kanto because Mr. Scientist heard the words "massive library" ...and because Winry was on her way to that region anyway, when she ran onto him at New Bark.

[It still feels weird to have him back in the world of Pokemon. Of course he doesn't remember anything about his previous stays here, but clearly he's not telling everything this time either. Maybe it feels even more weird because Edward is clearly from somewhere in their future. It's going to take time to get used to him being all tall and everything.

Winry makes sure they return to the dock early. No reason to rush in at the last minute -- even if Audino and Totodile seem to enjoy their time by running around on the bushes of Route 29. Well, the Audino sure seems to be rushing to this ferry too, so no worries about her being bored.

She pays for Ed's ride too before he can even ask how paying for it works.]

Newcomers should just keep their money. [Leave it to the girl, who's been here for two years.] Okay, let's go. I can explain more things about this world to you in the next few days.

[Or, you know, she can tell you things about this place any day and not just here. Look, she's all excited for all of this. Winry's never been on this ferry. She's been to the prom, but that's ...the rides to the prom and not her special trip to Kanto with ~~not!boyfriend~~ Ed.]

[The first lesson with fighting in the wild had been very useful and interesting in Ed's opinion. He's really glad he ran into Winry - for several reasons.

Though it hits his pride a little to have his ferry free bought by Winry, he also thinks this is a right decision. The fee is rather high and it would be better for him to save the money he received.]

Mmhm, both times. Well Kanto wasn't exactly an option back when I first got here. [and she spent too much time stuck in Mahogany...] I've been there too, but mostly I've been in Johto. I even have a house there, assuming it's still mine at all, we can go there much later.

You'll have to tell me all about your journeys. And I can tell you things as well, if you want to know what happens.

[Well, he's not sure if he wants to tell every little detail... but if that's what Winry wants, he'll do it.]

Yeah, I heard it's not always been an option. Well, now you get to travel Kanto with me from the beginning.

Though I do want to visit your house as well.

[She's actually really glad for those words about traveling with him, but --] Are you sure it's not more like taking you to the nearest massive library?

[He'll be stuck there, won't he? It's not like she minds, that's going to happen a lot back home too because mister scientist can spend so much time traveling and reading.]

Mm, we will! But it's on the other side of Johto, in a city called Olivine. Ohh, there's a beach and sea in that city, it's pretty amazing.

[Ed smiled at the thought of talking a lot about everything with Winry. It was a bit different from what he had planned, but this... this was good. It's not like he needed to worry about his own world right now.]

Hey, I'm not going to stay there forever. I want to try out the gym challenge and the breeding thing as well...

[You can't do them in a library. Well, at least you... shouldn't...]

There's not enough books for you to stay there forever anyway. [Just enough for him to get stuck in there for a very long time if someone like Winry, or some sort of a mysterious event, doesn't drag him to do other things too.] Good. You might want to start with a gym in another city anyway, Viridian's gym is the most challenging in Kanto.

[So it takes time to get his pokemon to the levels where he has a chance of winning against them.]

There's a lot to do besides those things too. And you need to work in the cities to earn money for everything; they offer some options to every city by default and then there's usually some local stuff do to in them.

[So he'll be working and reading in Viridian? Well, as long as he stays around, everything is fine.]

Oh really? Even though it's the first place with a gym? Good thing you're with me or I would have attempted at it without knowing...

[Ed can make plans, but when he decides something, he goes for it.]

What kind of jobs are we talking about here?

You'd have noticed it from the fact that they probably wouldn't have even let you if you didn't have enough gym badges...

[Or then ... well, he could have gotten his ass kicked by that gym. Too bad he's been warned now.]

Well, you can work in restaurants as a waiter, chef or a janitor - I've only tried the waitress job, it was pretty fun for me. Or then you can either fill papers in the Pokemon Centers or be a medical assistant there and help with patients. Or you can fill shelves in those little stores that they call pokemarts or work as a cashier there. Local inns have a lot work to do too; housekeeping, dishwashing, cooking, checking people in and out...

[What, you wanted to see him humiliated?]

Sounds like there's a lot of variety... perhaps I should try being a janitor at some point... at least it sounds most suitable for me - or what do you think?

Yeah, there's a lot more variety than just that too since some places have their unique work places too. ...and those need to move a lot, so yes, that sounds pretty good for you.

Yeah, at least most of them have. New Bark? Not so much, but it's easy to get away from there anyway. You can just try all the jobs in time. [she grins]

You'll be fine as long as you don't run away from a job in the middle of your contract -- or that is, work week.

Yeah, yeah - I agree, but it's not really a police matter is it?

It can be here, but at least you have to renew the deal in a weekly basis, so it's not like you're signed up for a month at a time or so.

Even better, new arrivals wake up during the weekend, usually, so if someone important shows up, you just don't go sign up a deal on Monday or you don't... do that on Monday anyway just to be sure that no one you know has arrived.

[She stops a sigh from getting out.] But we can talk about jobs later.

Ah, that's true. Week isn't that long and it's convenient for things like that.

[If someone they know will arrive. Who knows? Maybe they would like Ed did or any others before him.]

Yeah, it's easy once you get used to it. [as much as one can get used to it anyway.

[She leads him to door 301 without too much trouble despite them both being new to this ferry thing. Surely he could have done the same too but anyway.]

I really hope these reserved rooms won't have random people challenging you to a battle... [he probably got a real life explanation to that on the way there ~~if those are a thing on the ferry too shhh~~]

That would be pretty odd, considering they're room for us and not other passengers...
