Summary: Sora and Riku had plans involving a beach. Conveniently, Cianwood just so happens to have one.

[It's been floating around his head for a while. After three months, Riku and Sora really haven't done much, at least beyond what they'd normally do as best friends. Sure, they've hung out. Traveled. Helped Kairi acclimate, but with the weather warming up and a beach waiting just outside the door, maybe it's time to make good on his promise.

...He can only hope he doesn't get cold feet.

Clearing his throat, Riku steps into the room, one hand pressed against his neck as he approaches Sora.]

Hey, so... You got anything planned tonight?

[Okay, that just sounded stupid, but at least it's a start. Hopefully he can keep it cool and not come out sounding like an idiot.]

[ at the moment, Sora is upside down on the couch. controller in hand. totally playing videogames and losing to Paws. kind of put out about it really. so he's kind of glad that Riku is interrupting. ]

Plans? No plans...

[ trying to sit up now an oh. oh Riku is doing the thing. the hand on the neck tick thing. ]

Wanna do something?

[...Wow, his timing. Luckily, the sight of Sora upside down eases some of the tension, and he lowers that hand to his hip, shooting a glance at Paws. How she can play games with only three digits is a mystery to him.]

That was kind of the reason I asked, you dork.

[He heaves an airy sigh, wandering closer. Okay, so now he just has to get to the point.]

See, I seem to remember you saying something about wanting...

[Ope. That seems to be a lump forming in his throat. Give him a second.]

...Look, you wanted to go for a walk on the beach, right? Look at the stars? Other sappy stuff?

[There, he didn't say the d word, but hopefully that gets across.]

[ she's looking at Riku with a smug expression too. like she can conqueror the world or something. don't question her skills. but anyway. now Sora is rolling off of the couch.

probably getting all up in Riku's personal space. ]

Wanting...? [ geez, Riku. spit it out. ] Walk on the beach...?

[ what is his friend even talking abou - oh right! that's the, ehrm. AHEM. thing. that he had wanted to do. because yeah Sora is a sap and that's probably the most date-like thing he can think of.

give him two seconds to laugh awkwardly right along with Riku. ]

Can you actually ask me that without all of the silly pauses?

[ ouch that's just mean. ]

[Riku leans back, biting the corner of his mouth. His brow furrows, and he folds his arms. Sora, c'mon. Don't make this any more awkward than it has to be.

...except that's exactly what he's doing, by bringing up 'silly pauses' and just... Give him a second. Grumbling, he pinches the bridge of his nose.

Right, without pauses. All he's really gotta do is say it. And really, how hard can it be? It's just one stupid word. He really needs to pull it together. Get to the point, or they'll be stuck here for hours, probably.

... ... ...

After about forty five seconds in silence, he finally blurts it out.]

Okay, do you want that date or not?

[THERE. He said it. Hopefully that answers his question.]

[ Riku is just too funny about some of these things. yes, Sora does have some lingering shyness about all of this. only because he's, well, never had someone to go out on a date with. not much has changed between them at all, though. that sort of helps. actually, it helps out a lot.

but still. it's great seeing Riku being kicked off his high horse like this. Sora needs to see this more often.

so he smiles. waits. then Riku finally blurs out the sentence and Sora gets all up in his personal space even more. ]

Uh. Duh. Why didn't you just say so in the first place?

[ ...and there's a second of hesitation there. if Riku isn't too upset or flustered, he can probably see it in Sora's eyes before it gives way to determination coupled with impishness.

he leans up, gives Riku a peck on the cheek and runs off. ]

Ghk!

[Riku coughs, eyes bulging and jaws dropping. Heat surges through his cheeks, and he whips around, tearing after Sora.]

Hey! Get back here, Sora!

[Darn it. Why does he always have to pull stunts like this? Riku's supposed to be the one getting stupid reactions from his friend.]

[ oops! running faster and trying to skid into his own room.

MAYBE HE CAN GET THE DOOR SHUT BEFORE RIKU CATCHES UP. ]

[Running, running, running, running, WHAM.

Just as he was about to dive inside, the door shuts, and Riku does a faceplant, falling flat on his butt.]

...Ugh. You better stay sharp, Sora. The second you step out here, I'll be waiting.

[ some awkward chuckling over on his side of the door. ]

I'm just getting ready, geez!

[ slow your roll, dude. but he is getting changed... and then potentially trying to sneak out the window. ]

That's not what this is about. But, go ahead. Take your time. No skin off my back.

[He hasn't stopped to consider the daring window escape, so the ball is very much in Sora's court still.]

Ah huh.

[ totally instructing Aurora to make some noise while he slips out.

and while the little thing does as is instructed. meanwhile Sora slips in through a different window. quietly makes his way around and...

surprise! Riku you're getting a hug from behind. ]

Ack!

[In hindsight, he... really should have expected that. Should have, but didn't, so for a moment, Riku freezes up.

And then he snorts, rolls his eyes, and lightly jabs Sora with his elbow.]

You trying to practice your ninja skills?

[ snickering. just a little.... but dodging that elbow and taking a few steps back. ]

Nah. Just my 'besting Riku' skills.

[Riku marches after him, leeeaning into Sora's personal space and raising his index finger.]

You know, it's a good thing we're about to go on that date, or I'd probably have pinned you by now. Maybe grabbed you in a headlock...

[He steps back and pauses for a moment before grabbing Sora and scooping him up.]

But that'd be way too predictable.

[Ah, the joys of being a human tree...]

Oh hey! You actually said 'date' without stuttering or anything.

[ grinning. so much grinning...

but then less grinning as he's picked up. time for Sora to stutter and stammer. ]

H-hey! What gives!

Oh, just thought I'd sweep you off your feet.

[And now it's his turn to grin, and yes, he is most certainly reveling in the moment. Yes, that was incredibly cheesy, but so worth it.]

Looks like I've still got the edge after all.

Oh yeah?

[ fine then. upping the ante. putting arms around Riku's neck and settling in. ]

You think so, huh?

[...Annnnd moment's over. Riku's face turns into a ripe, ripe tomato, and he gulps. Um... so this wasn't what he anticipated.]

...Well, yeah. I mean-- hey, I can handle whatever you throw at me.

[Just uh... gotta think of a good counter measure. There's one thing he's got in mind, but just the thought of it leaves him petrified. He totally just walked into a trap, didn't he?]

Whatever I can throw at you?

[ that's such a challenge. but he sort of knows by how red that face is that Riku really can't.

but that's not really going to stop Sora, now is it? because he's the sap of the two and he has to do the sappy thing.

by giving Riku a peck on the lips. ]

Riku freezes again, and his eyes pop wide open. Okay, he totally had this coming. Should've seen it coming a mile away...

But nope. Still hit him like a blitz ball to the face.

He stares like a deer in the headlights, and then his brow furrows. Okay, by now they rally are just stalling for time, but you know what?

He's going for it. Taking a deep breath, Riku leans forward and... yep, he's returning the kiss. Or trying to.

He doesn't have the guts to let it linger for long, and by the time he pulls back, he's even redder than before. But, hey, a challenge is a challenge.

He'll just... look the other way now.]

...Yeah, like I said. Whatever you can throw at me.

[Heh, heh...]

Anyway, don't you think we should get out there?

[ well. Riku accomplishes one goal there: taking Sora by surprise. honestly he hadn't thought that Riku would follow through with something like that, not with the way he freezes up and stuff! but at least it's not a bad surprise.

Sora just looks a little pink and sheepish once Riku starts talking again. what a doof for a best friend. ]

We'll see about that.

[ nah. not giving up yet. ]

And you're the one that's stalling, not me! I'm ready to go.

Yeah, yeah.

[Pfft, fine then. He'll go ahead and set Sora back down before trying to turn to the door. Depends on how long Sora's gonna hold onto him, really.

Still, there's a smile on his face now. Awkward as that was, it was pretty nice. And now the score's almost even.]

[ oh when his feet touch the ground he'll let go. and then start speeding off towards the door.

and yeah. it all is pretty nice. it's awkward because it's new territory, not because it's unwanted. ]

Sheesh, first a ninja, and now you're a rocket.

[But hey, who's he to complain? With a shrug of his shoulders, Riku strolls after Sora, bracing himself for the main event. Shouldn't be long until they make it outside, out onto the sand with only the light of the stars to guide them...

Man, that sounds cheesy. Then again, that's perfect for a dork like Sora.]

[ and then he just starts to walk backwards, hands tucked behind his head. grinning. he's really excited all right? ]

Hopefully the good kind of rocket.
