Kaito might have been mischievous and stealthy, but he wasn't the type to eavesdrop on something if he knew privacy was desired. Though truthfully, Kay didn't mind either way. She just rarely had company when she'd visited her father's grave before, and she hadn't expected it here, when he didn't even have a grave to visit.
