Log:
Two strikes. That's all it took.

The day had begun great -- Scott had arrived in Violet. And what does a trainer do when they arrive in a new town? Go and check out the gym, of course. What, Ramona? Scott was sure she'd wait. After all -- this was what you did in the games.

That's when it started to all go downhill, though. Scott had walked into the gym, with his two Pokemon ready. Knuckles the Cyndaquil, and Mario the Sentret. As he strolled, Knuckles cowered a little. But Scott knew it was time to live up to his family (?) name, and face FULL LIFE CONSEQUENCES. Or a gym. Whatever.

"Welcome to my Gym." Falkner said, as Scott approached. "You're here to get my badge? Feel the wrath of the league of gym leaders!" he barked, letting out his Noctowl.

Scott looked to Knuckles, with a grin. "Knuckles! Get out there and use Ember!" he said, as Knuckles blew out flames from both his back, and his mouth. The Noctowl soared towards Knuckles, not flinching when the Ember hit it. Well, it wasn't often that Pokemon flinched from fire-type moves. That was more a thing for moves like Bite. Wait... maybe they changed how moves worked in this world--

--Wait, Knuckles just fainted! What? Scott looked to Falkner. and then to Knuckles. "That was a fluke!" Scott said, returning the small fire-type to his ball. "Go, Mario!" he then shouted, letting out his Sentret. It cowered and ran to Scott's side, as the Noctowl cawed, victorious.

But, Scott wouldn't have any of that. "Mario, use Scratch!" he said, as the Sentret crawled out from between his legs, and to the Noctowl. But the Noctowl turned around and swooped back, and Mario was K.O.ed.

Scott had lost. Only a newbie would lose in a Pokemon battle. Or somebody with weak Pokemon. Scott picked up Mario, and started on his way back to the Pokemon Center. "This is your fault, Mario," he said, to the trembling form in his arms, when he was outside. Soon, he'd return to the gym, and try again. The first gym couldn't be that high of a level, could it?
