Cue sax of the yackety variety.

Where: The Goldenrod City Hotel
When: Starting at 5:00 PM on December 19th and ending at 4:00 AM on December 20th.
Summary: POWER OUTAGE IN THE GOLDENROD CITY HOTEL. See here for details!
Rating: Probably PG to PG-13.
Log:
A pair of deep, enormous red eyes sat in front of the receptionist and stared, intensely.

The receptionist pursed her lips and frowned, staring back through a pair of horn-rimmed glasses.

Claudy's enormously fluffy feet were reflected neatly on the glossy countertop, as were the wickedly-sharp talons that stuck out of them.

Those were the main things keeping the unfortunate receptionist on duty from shooing the owl Pokemon, although the beak wasn't much of an incentive, either.

"Um... young lady," she said hesitantly, trying to lean around the large bird, her chair creaking. "The lobby is intended to be a space for EVERYBODY..."

"And it still IS a space for everybody," Heather said, unloading a shoulderful of soft, folded blankets onto one of the lobby's sofas and dusting her hands off. Several other blankets had already been partially tied up over the back of the couch and stretched out to attach at the corners to rows of chairs that were painstakingly arranged in aesthetically-pleasing, tunnel-wall-like patterns. There were also the beginnings of several pillow-built barricades, and even some large cardboard boxes standing by on reserve, should the pillows run out before construction was complete. "It's just a COOLER space for everybody."

The receptionist's frown grew and she sighed, rubbing her temples and trying to ignore the Noctowl's unblinking stare. She was fairly certain that it had been placed there SOLELY to distract her from stopping the construction of 'New Lobby'-- and it was doing a fairly good job.

Why did the difficult visitors ALWAYS come downstairs while SHE was on desk duty?

Meanwhile, the wind howled outside, piling snow against the glass doors to the outside and plastering against the windows-- not that there was much to see out there, besides flying snow. It blotted out even the rest of the city's lights, which normally lit up the plaza outside like daylight even after dusk.

"Miss, I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to take all that down," she said for the fifth time in the past half-hour, and as usual, she was completely ignored as the scruffy blond girl tied a few more blankets up (with some difficulty due to her bandaged hands).

Biting her lip, she started to stand up.

Maybe if she just went over and started... taking all the blankets down herself--

And then suddenly, there was a low mooooooan of electricity deciding spontaneously that life wasn't worth it anymore and turning itself off.

The lights went out.

Silence reigned in the lobby.

.... for about five seconds.

"Oh my goodness..."

"WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED--"

"/OLD WOMAN OWL SCREAM"

[Feel free to make your own threads! They can be down in the lobby, they can be up in the rooms, they can be anywhere! Is your character in the bathroom plucking their eyebrows when the lights go out? WE WANNA HEAR ABOUT IT, SO GO FOR IT. Are they falling down the stairs? POST THAT SHIT.]

[Threadhopping/jacking is totally encouraged, so TAG AROUND TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT, MY DUDES. If your own thread isn't getting replies right away, go ahead and jump in somewhere else! Look out for other characters in the same areas as yours-- lobby, hallways, staircases, etc! Have fun!]

Squick? Now there is a word Shelly would squint at. He would rather call it... oh, foreignness, perhaps.

"I was merely walking."
miniworth: (Let me explain this nice and clear.)

[personal profile] miniworth 2010-12-20 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Squick -- it could only come from young people. Hm.

"Walking up the stairs can be good exercise, too -- that's what Nurse Joy told me."

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Shelly likes to think he is at least vaguely aware of new slang, but that one does not ring a bell at all. Not that he is thinking about it right now, anyway.

"Oh, yes. It is particularly beneficial to your thigh muscles." Fair warning, Edgeworth: if you enable him to continue on this subject, he will go into an in-depth description of leg anatomy.

((And you don't want that because I don't know shit about anatomy.))
miniworth: (Edgeworth is pleased)

[personal profile] miniworth 2010-12-20 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"---And it keeps you warm, as well!"

....Fairly age appropriate response, amirite?

"I've been... I've been walking up these stairs ever since we checked in, here. It was tiring at first.. but I think I've gotten used to it."

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Age appropriate or not, it earns Edgeworth a sincere nod. "Ah, of course, always an advantage... Although some good tea is also excellent for that purpose."

And what he says next seems to please Shelly even more, in fact. "It is good for boys of your age to exercise regularly, you know. Naturally, it is good for people of all ages, but beginning at an early age is only better."
miniworth: (Edgeworth is pleased)

[personal profile] miniworth 2010-12-20 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"...I've been scared of drinking tea ever since Miss Fey mentioned tea fairies..."

But he grins, anyway, and there's a little sparkle of determination that, well, really shouldn't be there when he was just hallucinating about his father's death a few minutes ago.

"I plan to do that - a lot," he states firmly. "I want-- need -- to get stronger."

I DO HTML GOOOOD

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"... Tea fairies?" For once, his forehead actually wrinkles in mild confusion.

But never mind that - he "needs to get stronger"...? Ah, yes, Shelly does vaguely recall mentions of this... around the time Wright was poisoned. If Miles was still thinking about it, then perhaps it was more than simple, typical childhood guilt.

"What do you intend to do, Miles?" Something is slightly different in his tone now - is it warmer?
miniworth: (1228)

I didn't see your fail, good sir. o7

[personal profile] miniworth 2010-12-20 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's a long story."

It.. started off as guilt, whether it was simple or not was a different question.

He'd been unable to help his father, back home, even going as far as to believe he might have killed that man himself. And he was powerless to help Phoenix that day, as well. He was determined not to let that happen, ever again.

He knew Dahlia Hawthorne was still after Phoenix's life, and Apollo had informed him about Kristoph Gavin's threat -- and meeting Ken Amada? Finding out about Ken's doomed future only made Miles' decision more and more concrete.

But what did he intend to do, particularly...?

"....I don't know, Mr. Doe. All I know is that I need to be stronger, to be able to fight when I need to."

G-GOOD

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Shelly is, for the most part, completely clueless about Edgeworth's father, and the same was true regarding Kristoph Gavin. As for Ken, he has no idea that him and Edgeworth even know each other. Not that it was any of his concern, of course.

... He's not very sure what to think; for a long moment, he is silent.

"Do you... wish to become a prosecutor?"
miniworth: (musing)

/HUUUUG IT'S OKAY M'DEAR ;-;

[personal profile] miniworth 2010-12-20 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Miles has no idea that Shelly knows Ken, either. As far as the two kids were aware, the only friend they had in common was Merlin. Perhaps it would be better that way.

At the mention of becoming a prosecutor, Miles shrugs.

"That's for me to decide in the future, but it won't help me doing anything now -- especially not in a world like this, where law seems to hold no power whatsoever."

He pauses for a moment.

"The only way to solve things in this world with people who want to harm others is.. by simply fighting back, I suppose."

;;;

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
A world where law is powerless? Their own home world isn't too far from that, at times. However, Shelly refrains from commenting on that. They're not discussing justice in the formal sense, after all.

"Fighting back...?" Hmm. He never saw Prosecutor Edgeworth as much of a physical fighter. "What do you know about fighting, if I may ask?"
miniworth: (1228)

<3

[personal profile] miniworth 2010-12-21 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nothing."

.....well, that was a quick answer.

"Which is why I have to learn... a friend of mine said he would help me, but he's in Violet right now..."

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
... Well...

He is on vacation.

The innocent curiosity in his tone is concealing some sort of sentiment he can't quite identify himself. "Say... Where would you like to begin?"
miniworth: (Hmm.)

[personal profile] miniworth 2010-12-21 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
--- what.

"...Begin? What do you mean, sir..?"

Despite his mun's plans, AT FIRST Miles.... thinks he knows what Shelly is talking about, but he's hesitant. At least France was, as looney as the idea sounded, just a country. Yeah, just. But Shelly -- Mr. Doe -- was, as the man had said himself, a criminal. Miles' morals and sense of justice was screwed up already, but the general rule in his mind was still that criminals generally meant "bad"...

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
As for Shelly, he could hardly care less about Edgeworth's thoughts. Of course, he was never one to mind what others thought of his choice in profession - well, except when they outright insulted it, in which case his pride was quick to fire up.

As far as he is aware, the simple fact that this Edgeworth spoke to him as an equal, even knowing what he does, is already enough to indicate a difference in mindset; thus, in his logic, little Miles shouldn't be worried about Shelly's status as a criminal NOW. Why now?

"Well, there is a variety of things you could learn. Given the apparent scarceness of conventional weapons in his world, you may want to begin with, say, hand-to-hand combat."
miniworth: (Hmm.)

[personal profile] miniworth 2010-12-21 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Talking to a criminal was one thing, but working with one wa-- -aaugh, screw this. Miles shakes his head clear of his mumbo-jumbo thoughts, looking up at Shelly steadily, now.

....Criminality? What did that matter, here, in the legal sense? Anyone that hasn't harmed another person - or wasn't planning to - yet should be good enough. He was the son of a lawyer, but he'd have to learn to judge people on things other than those laws...

But back to the topic.

"I'm a lot smaller compared to other people.. I don't have a very good reach, and my physical strength isn't great, either... I plan to learn it, but I'm not sure if it will do me much good.."

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
This is something Shelly would never share aloud, of course, but that focused, steady look... it quite reminds him of himself, when he was this young.

But anyway.

He sounds... almost amused. "You will grow up."
miniworth: (h-hides face)

[personal profile] miniworth 2010-12-21 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"I-I know that!"

...So much for steady and focused. Miles seems almost flustered now.

"I don't mean to sound as if I'm rushing, Mr. Doe.. I know I'll grow taller and stronger one day, but-- I need something that will work for me now.."

Flustered? YEAH, JUST LIKE LITTLE!SHELLY THEN

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
He pauses to ponder before continuing, his words slow and careful.

"It is not impossible to take down foes bigger than yourself. You only need accuracy and agility."
miniworth: (muu)

ARE YOU FEELING NOSTALGIC, SHELLY.

[personal profile] miniworth 2010-12-21 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
....He's not sure if he has either, at this moment in his life.

"I'll have to do my best, then." He makes a mental note to find any relevant books at the department store once the lights come back on.

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"If you require any assistance..." Oh, why beat around the bush? "I may be able to help."
miniworth: (Default)

[personal profile] miniworth 2010-12-21 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"....Help?"

He pauses.

"You'll teach me how to defend myself?"

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, he will only give complete, formal instruction to a successor...

"I... may be able to give you some pointers, yes."
miniworth: (pensive)

[personal profile] miniworth 2010-12-21 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
.....

Miles pauses to think about this.

"...Mr. Doe. I'm not sure if this is the right question to be asking you, or if you are the right person to be asking this to.. but..

"How far will you go to protect the life of something you really care about?"

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2010-12-21 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Protecting lives was not quite what he did - not directly, anyway. And as for "something he really cares about"...

He pauses again before giving his answer.

"For my name... I would fight to the end."
