Beach Day!!1!!11!!!!

Who: Vexen, Zack, open to spectators later on.
Where: Cherrygrove beach
When:  Around 10am
Summary: Vexen and Zack have prior arrangements to have a battle here. Vexen has arrived 20 minutes early and is biding his time before Zack arrives.
Rating: PG as far as predictions go.
Log:
Shellder had wandered into the shallow beggings of the shore and was clapping it's shells, spraying water up around itself and making some happy noises of enjoyment.

Vexen himself was debating taking off his boots and stepping into the ocean, it was unbearably hot and his cloak was not exactly a good choice of clothing for days like this. Still he hadn't bothered himself with changing into a new outfit. He'd been wearing his cloak for years and he would feel naked without it.

"Shellder...would you be able to spray some water over in my direction?"

Shellder turned happily and tried it's best to project the water, however it fell quite short and only a few mists of water hit the side of his cloak, qucikly sizzling and evaporating a second afterwards.

Vexen just sighed, hopefully after Shellder battled some more it would learn some new skills.

"WOOOOO!!!"

It's a derp! It's a fool!
No, it's... Zack Fair? Have a shirtless SOLDIER followed shortly by a shrieking Dratini running at full speed directly toward the gently lapping waves. Of course, Angela just had to be the first one in the water, so a well-placed whip of her tail sent Zack stumbling with a guffaw.

While Dratini slithered off into the water, surfacing from time to time to splash obnoxiously, Zack had lost all of his momentum and kicked a wave with a juvenile shout.

"Angela! CHEATER!"

Huff.

Ah, well. He still had about fifteen minutes before the match was supposed to start... and in his mad retard-dash to get to the water before his pokemon, he hadn't noticed Vexen and Shellder's position on the beach a few yards down.

At any rate, while Angela was busying herself chasing Magikarp and splashing about, he'd take a few warm-up laps. Get the blood flowing.

*3* beach daaaaaay!!!111!!!1!1!!!1!!1one

The way he figured it, he couldn't be late for an appointment when he was already technically in the meeting place. Forward stroking out into the more open water, he called for his pokemon in a sing-song tone, who splashed to the surface a few feet away.

Stroking over with a relaxed sigh, he squinted in the heat of the sun. The water was just right -- perfect temperature. Not too rough.

It was while he was scanning the water's surface that he caught sight of his scheduled opponent ... who was dressed in a black coat? Was that guy crazy?

He raised an arm from the water and splashed with a wave to greet him.
Guess we could start early if he wants, he thought idly, treading water.

... But then a certain restless Dratini decided to take advantage of her trainer's spacing out by slipping under the water's surface and biting his toe, eliciting a yell of pain and surprise.

SHELLDER IS INVITED. VEXEN AINT.

"Angelaaaaaa!"

Without another thought, he dunked below the water's surface, having every intention of catching that little monster by the tail and pinching those white fins 'til they turned pink. Of course, catching a creature that spent most of its life in deep water was a bit of a stretch, but he was a man fueled by vengeance.

well. :| MAYBE. but he has to wear an old man one-sie bathing suit.

Vexen was absolutely right. No more than thirty seconds later the SOLDIER's head popped up a bit closer to shore and a fist pounded an incoming wave in frustration. Evidently, his quest for revenge had ended with him empty-handed...

He was grinning sheepishly, though -- since he now knew that the man he was supposed to be battling was watching and began to swim casually toward the shore.

" 'Ey! Vexen! Shellder! Enjoying the beach?"

... Kind of a rhetorical question. Vexen obviously wasn't dressed to enjoy... anything, from what he could tell. Except maybe a funeral. A snowy funeral.

"Yeah. Couldn't resist the swim." Wading through the waist-deep water, the faint silhouette of the 7 foot long Angela caused a slight disturbance around the water's surface around him.

"I diced up one of those extra outfits 'Mom' packed for me to make the shorts. Totally worth it." He raised his brows and rolled his eyes sarcastically at the mention of 'mom'.

"Are you all warmed up? Ready to battle?"

"Gotcha."

Curling his tongue, he gave a loud whistle and the Dratini's head popped out of the shallow water nearby, looking around hurriedly before clumsily making her way back to the sandy shore with a roll of her spine.

Of course, Angela just had to greet her friend from the previous night by curling around him briefly with a squeak before squaring off in front of him.

"We're ready. First move's all yours!"

Zack grimaced slightly at the frequency of the noise, thinking of a malfunctioning piece of machinery or one of those 'repellent' alarms they put on keychains for women... Hardly anything at all for he and Vexen, but it did have a profound effect on Angela.

The Dratini swooned and curled at the screeching sound, twisting around a little in the sand, as if to try to shake the sound off.

"Wh..." Must be that new move he was talking about...

"Angela, focus! Don't thrash around like that. Give 'em the stare-down!"

The Dratini's body locked up as the command was given; Focusing now was harder than he made it sound. In fact, the dragon was seeing double. Doing what she could to get her bearings and align herself at least in the general direction of her opponent, she leveled her head at the Shellder as those sweet lavender eyes narrowed to slits.

The 'stare-down' was Leer, of course, and as Angela buckled under the effects of confusion, her skin began to thicken strangely... as if she had gathered a layer of translucent white plastic. Not that she could do anything about it while she was frozen in the Leer position.

[identity profile] honor-first.livejournal.com 2010-06-18 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The momentum of the rock-hard creature sent Angela skidding in the sand, causing a slight tear in that thin outer layer of what Zack was sure was the Dratini's old, outgrown skin.

Was that what was slowing her down...?

"Angie--"

--But the dragon had that part covered. With that initial tear made, she slithered and rolled in the sand, the milky white skin peeling away. Her trainer was unperturbed by this as he'd seen it happen time and time again... but never in battle.

In an instant, the Dratini was upright and alert, the new skin glossy and bright in the glaring sun.

Whatever had Angela messed up the previous round was over and done with now, evidently! The dark-haired SOLDIER exhaled and grinned.

"Alright, kiddo. Wrap him up tight!"

With a cry of excitement, all seven feet of the fledgling dragon slipped around the Shellder, taking care to avoid its budding spikes, and began to slowly constrict around him.

[ ooc : just to be super clear in case my description is derpy or wrong xB dratini shed its skin. fixed the confusion. ]

[ ooc : no problem at allllll omg you waited like a whole week for me. xD it's cool!!! ]

Man... this was looking pretty grim. Angela was pretty battle hardy and knew how to roll with the punches, but that Shellder looked like it was built for defense. Averting his eyes while the dragon squealed in frustration, he puzzled over their predicament ... but not for long.

"Don't let up, Angie! Loosen 'em up with paralysis."

As the Dratini struggled on, its tail did what it could to take a solid grip as it suddenly discharged a buzz of sparks through direct contact with the Shellder.

[identity profile] honor-first.livejournal.com 2010-06-18 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wrap it up! Wrap it up!"

The man bounced as the air around them buzzed with the effects of the Dratini's Thunder Wave; Angela dug her lower body into the sand to brace herself before taking the brunt of Shellder's attack, essentially 'catching' the mollusk in her coils upon impact. The dragon looked tired but determined and gave the Shellder another tight squeeze.

"Hold on, Angie! Don't let it go, no matter what!"

[identity profile] honor-first.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Man... Trainer battles were a lot harder than they'd originally sounded. Any wild pokemon he'd ever encountered would have succumbed to Angela's ferocity a long time ago. Scratching his chin and looking on for an opening anxiously, it seemed like there was little either pokemon could do.

Shellder seemed set in his defensive strategy, and Dratini was locked into a constant offensive routine.

It can't stay in that shell forever, can it...?

"Keep it up, Ang'! ... But don't exhaust yourself! Slow and steady. Squeeze 'em out!"

And, doing as her trainer commanded, the dragon wore a hardened expression and tightened its coils, taking out its frustration on that shell, even gnawing angrily on one of those spikes.

[identity profile] honor-first.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
He couldn't help but laugh at Angela's insistence at gnawing at Shellder's spike. The kid was brimming with fighting spirit... had to give her that much. He wasn't sure if the dragon actually thought it was doing her any good or not, but it does rekindle a bit of that lighthearted optimism.

Even if the Dratini couldn't crack down on Shellder hard enough to win them the battle, the experience would put help things into perspective for a bossy little dragon who thought herself invincible.

"Looks like it's a close battle," the SOLDIER shouted to Vexen, folding his arms calmly.

"I'm willing to call it a draw if you think they're gonna be deadlocked like this."

[identity profile] honor-first.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
"She usually gets all hyped up after she sheds." Rubbing the back of his neck, he gave that same shrill whistle.

Angela jerked her head in this direction, startled and angry.

"That's it, Angie! Battle's over."

With a flop, the Dratini let go of the Shellder and fell into a pile onto the sad, making a sound of dismay as if to ask, 'Well, did we win?'

[identity profile] honor-first.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
The man laughed nervously and nodded, ignoring what was now an enraged, chattering Dratini -- probably DEMANDING AN EXPLANATION FOR THIS BULLSHIT, WHAT THE HELL, ZACK I WAS TOTALLY WINNING. Chatter, chatter, chatter.

"Sorry about that, little guy..." Attempting to give the Shellder a sympathetic pat, he got a shock for his trouble. Nevermind.

"Good battle, man. That's a hardy pokemon you've got."

she is such a compassionate dratini. :I

[identity profile] honor-first.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Worthless? Zack frowned slightly and gave Vexen a puzzled look, setting himself up mentally to deliver a semi-uncomfortable line of questioning of what exactly he meant by that --

-- But luckily, he got distracted by the request to make swimming trunks. The guy just HAD to be dying under the coat.

"Sure! You've got a pair of pants you don't mind me mutilating, right?"

Speaking of pants, Angela, who was not at all enjoying being ignored, was curling around his leg and nipping at the fabric of his shorts, squealing for his attention. Which he would not give.

[identity profile] honor-first.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Zack tapped the foot whose circulation wasn't being cut off by a shrieking, tantruming dragon and bit his lip anxiously as he watched Vexen meander across the beach. ... He had to've been the most miserable-looking guy he'd seen at a beach ever.

Part of him wanted to run over and try to somehow attempt to help the man along ... and the other part of him said he's probably get elbowed in the face for his trouble.

When he finally got back, he gave the pants a brief inspection before shrugging lightheartedly.

"These'll do fine, looks like. I just gotta use the scissors at the Pokemon Center and they'll be ready."
