Who: Ken Hidaka (
usedfuryswipes) and Aya Fujimiya (
secret_sword
Where: Middle of Route 29 (again. KEN LIKES IT HERE OKAY.)
When: About a day after Aya's arrival
Summary: Meeting up with Aya in the middle of a rainstorm. Great idea or GREATEST idea?
Rating: G, PG at highest.
Ken skidded to a stop underneath a tree, leaning over to catch his breath. He had an umbrella--but it hadn't done all that much good, with the wind driving the water against him and splashing through giant unavoidable puddles, getting splashed by some of the stupid fish lying around--ones that he remembered were pretty weak, but damn could they kick up some water. Ken was wet, he was muddy, and he wasn't happy.
Well, about the being wet and muddy anyway. Why weren't there any damn houses on this road anyway?
Ratty made a discontented squeak as some water trickled down Ken's hood, wetting the Rattata's head and ears. "Sorry, bud." Occupational hazard, Ken supposed.
He'd wait here for a little bit, then continue. The ground was still wet, even under the tree--it was impossible for it not to be, it'd been raining for nearly a solid week--but at least there wasn't a lot of it dropping on his head.
Ugh. Of course it had to be raining.

Shaking his hair from his face, he looked ahead and saw a figure under a tree. The person looked familiar but it was hard to tell.
The next time he ended up across the universe, he was going to wear a coat with a hood on it.
Walking closer, he soon realized that was indeed Ken. A little relieved but not exactly showing it (he was wet and miserable), he made his way over to him, getting under the tree and shaking the water from his hair as best he could.

"Well, it could be nicer." Way to state the obvious, Ken. Both of them were drenched to the bone, Ken thought he probably looked like a drowned cat himself. He'd thought about his plan of action on the way here, and it was late--the two of them weren't getting back to Cherrygrove tonight, Ken was sure.
"Hold on a minute," Ken said, weighing Ran's Pokeball in his hand. The recently-evolved Kirlia--which Ken wasn't going to refer to by name quite yet, because he didn't know how Aya would react to having his namesake look strangely like a ballerina--came out in a flash of light when he tossed the capsule.
"Can you use Confusion to dry out the ground a little?" Ken asked--it had worked with the snow when he went to get Youji, who knew--it might work this time around too. Ran nodded, eyes glowing an eerie blue, before a shimmering cloud of glowing water separated from the muck, floated a few feet away, and dropped with a splash. "Great, thanks."
At least he had a decent amount of practice setting up the tent, and he'd stopped long enough on the way out of town to grab a tarp to put down underneath too. They could probably both use the extra barrier between them and the still-damp ground.

Tilting his head, the Eevee made a little noise as he watched what was going on.
"You will have to explain how something called Confusion dries the ground like that," Aya said as he moved over to help his friend how ever he could. The sooner he got out of the rain, the happier he'd be. Though he generally didn't mind it, he also had a certain fondness for being dry.
And Ken happened to look just as drowned as he did.

At least Ken had thought ahead for once, and the tent he bought months ago was large and well put together, with a good rain cover that extended out from the door, forming a small roof that would keep water from drenching them if they stepped out for a moment, so long as they stayed underneath it.
Ken managed to hold off from sneezing until he got the last tent peg in the ground, and moved off to find a few rocks to hold them down tighter, just in case. "There should be extra clothes in your bag--if they stayed dry anyway. I brought some extras, but they'll fit weird on you."
Now if only it was dry enough to start a fire. Ken could feel himself shivering. At least he had the camp heater, and Omi the Furret made a great fuzzy not-so-little space heater all on his own.

It didn't help that he felt congested though.
"You're prepared, I see." Despite the tone of voice, it was obvious that he meant that as a compliment. Stripping his coat and shirt off, he frowned at how wet they were before pulling the other on. He was grateful that it didn't look ridiculous on him.
Pushing his hair from his face, he shifted so Cu could snuggle against him. "I'm fine, Cu. I'll warm up."

The small, lightweight tent heater he also produced from his bag would probably be even more welcome, something to ward off the damp and the cold. "I'd like to start a fire, but it's too wet for that." Maybe he'd add a camp stove to the traveling bag, for days like today. His bag was going to weigh a ton once he was done--it already did, really.
Ratty finally dislodged himself from Ken's shoulders, wiggling out of the jacket to jump down to the ground just before Ken shrugged off the wet thing himself. "Ugh, these are still going to be damp tomorrow." His waterproofed leather jacket would be fantastic to have right about now. Too bad it was back in London.

And finally, Aya smiled a little. "As used to rain as I am, this is a bit much."
Still, the bit of dry was very welcome and he showed that by relaxing a little, scratching Cu's ears. Something the Eevee obviously appreciated since he was trilling happily. He gave him a smile before looking over at Ken.

That accomplished, Ken hung the wet things over one of the inside support poles and plopped himself down cross-legged on the ground. "So, this is Cu, huh?" Cute little guy. Downright adorable. Ken held out his hand for the little fox-like creature to give a sniff if he wanted.

"I decided he needed a name. He seems to like it." He liked his real name too. Of course, Aya didn't volunteer his real name up since the pet name was the main one being used to begin with.
"He's been responding well to it anyway."

"Omi's pretty big, so I'm not gonna let him out yet. And..." Well, Ran was still sitting out in one corner of the tent, meditating as he usually did when left alone. Ken flushed pale in embarrassment. "...that's Ran."
Yes, the one that looks like a prima ballerina is named after you.

And then Ken mentioned the name of the other.
He looked at it. Then back at Ken. Oh yes. An explanation was in order for that one. One that had better be a good one from the look on his face. No, Aya wasn't angry or annoyed. On the other hand, he wasn't thrilled by this either.
And so...he waited.
no subject
Well, how the hell could he explain that one? It was only going to get worse, once he evolved again...
"...'Orchid' sounded stupid." ...great excuse there, Hidaka. He'll totally buy that one.

And his face said he didn't believe it for a second. Aya knew Ken well enough to know when he was trying to cover his ass. Really, they knew each other too well to try hiding much of anything.
no subject
Yeah, Ken had a stupid cheeky grin on his face. Before he sneezed, anyway. Three times in succession. Oh boy.
no subject
Obviously. Aya sighed and ignored the fact that he wasn't feeling well either. Because he could push that aside, easily enough. It wasn't like he'd never done it before.
"Get some sleep."

Ken didn't carry a pillow anymore, not since Omi evolved--the Furret was like pillow and nest all in one stupidly long furry body, and Ken liked to leave them out to sleep anyway. He knew that he wouldn't appreciate being shoved in a tiny ball, he didn't want to make his Pokemon stay in them all the time either. So he pulled the third Pokeball off his belt, and opened it. Omi's long body materialized and filled a good part of the tent.
"You should sleep too, then. We can get going early in the morning and get back to where it's actually dry. Or if you want to eat first, there's a couple sandwiches in my bag." He brought them just for you.
no subject
Mostly because he didn't want to hear about him not getting something to eat. Turning away from Ken, he took bite then fed a little bit of the bread to Cu. At least with him facing this way, he could close his eyes for a moment.
He did hate congestion headaches.
