Grand Fighting Tournament

Log:
It’s a rainy day in Johto, but that’s not going to stop the excitement that seems to have taken over the park. In the center of the park, there are five floating octagon-shaped platforms that being held up by Alakazams. Around the edges of the park there are tarp shielding the bustling crowds from the drizzle. Several big screen TVs can be seen all over the place.

The main park doors up and a redheaded woman step out. The crowds goes silent as she approaches the middle platform hovering above the water fountain. Once she gets close enough, one of the Alakazams picks her up using psychic. As she lands, she pulls out a microphone out of her pocket and addresses to the crowd.

“Hey folks, this is your lovely DJ Mary of the Radio Tower. Welcome to the Grand Fighting Tournament!” she shouts into the mike, making the crowd goes wild. “Competitors from all over the both regions have come to prove their might but only one will be the Champion. This event will not only be witnessed here in great city of Goldernrod but is also being broadcast to all of Johto and Kanto, so you can’t say you missed any of the action! The rules of the tournament are simple, folks. There are two ways to win.”

Mary raises her free hand up, showing two fingers.

“One is by knocking out your opponent, and the other is by knocking them OFF the platform. Don’t worry, guys, these awesome Alakazams will be here to float you down if you fall off. Now, enough talk.  This time around we have special prizes for all that compete this year. Not only will the champion and those in second and first place be getting trophy.  They’ll also receive special badge as wells.  These each one bares the fighting symbol! Glittering examples of those that have top the completion to wear for all to see!  “

She points to the big screen where all three badges are briefly displayed.

“Alright enough talk let’s get this tournament started. Bring out the contestants!”

Mary is floated off the stage just as the doors open again and the competitors come out.

[Well, this is actually nostalgic to her in its on way. She remembers being here on the year when Ed and Al both took part into this tournament, and Ed even won the second place. This still isn't her thing at all, but here she is again. What wouldn't a girl to cheer on for one of her best friends? (Spoilers: it's Katara!)

Meet Winry! She'll be ...anywhere where audience is allowed to go, watching the matches although she's not very -- excited to watch most of them, except when it's Katara and maybe Korra because she's kind of from Kat's world but shhhh so anyone can see her squeezing her eyes close from time to time or frowning and you know, maybe sounding like this really isn't her thing. Mostly? She'll try to not spoil the fun from everyone else and just keeps on watching quietly. Somehow she seems to be extremely interested in one girl's (Kat~) matches though, so at least there's that. Sorry if you happen to be watching this near her.

Or just come by, get some food from her bag and chat with her between the matches or something. Anything.]

[Dante shouldn't have come. The roar of a crowd anxious for battle and the stink of sweat and blood are reminiscent of a time he'd rather forget. But he found himself drawn to the tournament all the same; like an itch he could not rid himself off, he found his fingers twitching every time a punch was thrown.

"He should've parried the blow, there's not enough ground between them to properly dodge.

A harder kick would've won her the match; she was too wary."

As hard as he tries not to? The fights are exciting and every bit as enjoyable as he thought they'd be. He's almost coming to regret not signing up, but he checks himself; just as an alcoholic should avoid alcohol, so should a murderer avoid any duels.

Still, he can't help cheering along with the crowd. This particular match has young lady Katara participating; Dante had been quite surprised to see her petite frame up there, but it looks like she knows how to handle herself well enough. When Katara avoids a near blow and counters with a well-placed hit, he gets caught up in the action and throws all self-restraint to the wind, pumping a fist up in the air and yelling out encouragements.]

[Throwing all self-restraint in the wind is great, Winry is doing the same actually! Hey, it's her best girlfriend on the field, a girl has all the reasons to get excited in a situation like this. Fist pumping and yelling out words, yes, doing all that even if she was going to be quiet for the most part.

Except once she realizes just how excited she gets, she kind of looks around with a tiny blush on her face. No one can prove anything, right? Oh, maybe the guy next to her can. Or she might stand out from the crowd less if she keeps doing that.

Eyes back to the match. ...]

I guess she really did learn a lot from him...

[Mostly talking to herself as she sort of remembers Katara and Ed talking about Ed teaching her some martial arts or something.]

[Oh, there was a lady next to him? Dante immediately zips up and lowers his hand back down to his side, almost standing at attention. A slight tinge of red spreads on his face; to show such a rough and vulgar side to a lady is quite embarrassing!!

Clearing his throat, he does feel like he has to apologize.]

Pardon me, young lady. I have made a fool out of myself.

[Winry blinks her eyes in surprise. What? She tilts her head a little in confusion and won't even try to not look surprised here.

. . . Oh, so that's what this is about! He'll get a smile at that.]

Not at all! Especially not during my friend's match, I'm here just to cheer for her, and I'm glad to see you enjoying it too!

[Dante offers a small smile and a slight bow of the head.]

Indeed. I was once a soldier; though I have sworn to never again lift a blade, I must admit that some part of me misses all of this.

[And by this, he gestures at the match.]

So Miss Katara is your friend? I did not know that she was so adept at fighting. I do not know many of the contestants, but I do not think God would begrudge me if I cheer for an acquaintance's victory.

Maybe some of them would train with you? Unless that's out of the question too...

[But she gets the swearing to not do anything, but still feeling like some part of them misses it.]

Yes, or well she's more like a sister to me! I've never actually seen her fighting, but I know she learned some fighting skills from a friend of mine. [God? She doesn't know much about religion stuff, but well --] So you know Katara, or have at least met her? I'm sure cheering for a friend in a place like this is fine in anyone's opinion. Everyone needs their own supporters.

It would be temptation enough for me. I would rather not risk falling back to my old ways.

We have spoke briefly once over a welcoming fair she had planned for all those who stumble onto this world, much like ourselves. She seemed a very responsible and kind-hearted young lady, strong for one her age.

[She nods.] I get it. Your determination to stay away from it is really admirable, you know? [Mentally strong people, who can make decisions like that, she really likes them.] It's much better not to risk it.

Oh, so you know about the welcoming center. [Honestly, who wouldn't agree on that about Katara? She was all that and much more.] Yeah, she's amazing. I think everyone should have a friend like her. ...So, have you been here, in this world, for long?

Hmm. [The cost he has paid for the sin of violence and wrath weighs heavily on his mind still. It's not a lesson one forgets so easily in a short span of a few months.]

Yes. I was one of those handling the construction of the new lodgings. As for how long I have been here, it has been but two months. A brief period of time, compared to some others.
