Summary: After all the shenanigans of Hoennween, it's about time everybody had a chance to relax and unwind, courtesy of some actually benign NPCs. With all the luxuries of the Hotel Richissime waiting at their disposal, that shouldn't be too difficult a prospect!

A FEW OTHER SETTING NOTES:

• At the moment, this log spans the entirety of the New Year's Eve plot, so starters may be posted for any time on either day of the event. If things start getting massive and it looks like an overflow log will be necessary, we'll definitely see about putting one up, and will link it to this one if need be.

• The Event Itinerary can be found here! Remember that participating in this course of events is not mandatory, but it's what will be going on in the grand scheme of things over the course of the event.

• All event participants are being housed on the fourth and fifth floors of the hotel. Your bedrooms are laid out like this; if you participated in our IC Rooming Roulette, you can find your buddy on this table here!

• Most activities here will be free! ICly, your characters will use their room cards to "pay" for most things, and the charges will be applied to their room (which of course, they are not paying for personally). Gift shops, parts of the casino, and food not provided as part of the event are not chargeable to your rooms and characters will have to use their own money in those locations.

• Underage characters may use the casino; however, they may be subject to some social scrutiny and side-eyeing in the event that they attempt to get in on one of the high-roller tables.

A NOTE ABOUT USING THREADS ON THIS LOG FOR AC:

Because of how our AC period works (the grace week into January still counting toward December), all threads on this log are valid toward December's AC, regardless of timestamp! However, because the log technically spans two different months and we want to encourage tagging out on it, we have also made this decision:

On this log and this log alone, comment threads timestamped in January (OOCly) that reach AC-length may be used towards January's AC, as well. Therefore, if a thread on this log reaches AC length with 10+ comments timestamped in January, you can use it toward January's AC (assuming the same thread has not already been used to satisfy December's AC).

THE EVENTS OF THIS COMMENT TAKE PLACE ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 31

1:00 PM to 6:00 PM — FREE MINGLE TIME

[Though the flight over from Johto/Kanto had been nothing short of utterly terrifying for Meridiana, who's essentially never flown in her life (minus one ride via Pokemon to Goldenrod) and had been understandably apprehensive about the whole business — and the takeoff and landing in particular — she's managed to rally now that she's back on solid ground at the Hotel Richissime, and once she's checked in to her hotel room she'll be largely making use of the day exploring.

For at least part of the free hour, you can find her in the Spa-Fari Zone being talked into some much-needed pampering; once she's been sufficiently doted upon, she'll either be wandering the hotel taking in all the sights and sounds, or lingering in the Garden Observatory because let's be real, it's full of life and pretty flowers, and that's where she likes most to be.]

6:00 PM to 8:00 PM — DINNER HOUR

[By the time dinner rolls around, however, Meridiana will have changed into her dinner dress (albeit in pale blue rather than pink) and can be found dining with everyone else; though she'll finish well before the dinner period is actually over, she'll still be around near the windows of the Garden Observatory, looking at the flowers and trying to decide whether one or two of the blossoms would be missed, if she were to borrow them to put in her hair.]

8:00 PM to 11:59 PM — AT THE GALA

[This, at last, is Meridiana's variety of social gathering. Though the music is understandably unfamiliar, the instruments at least are appropriate to her ears, and with so much light and glamor and merriment around, she at last feels as though she's somewhat in her element.

Hence, she'll be available in the Ballroom to dance for most the whole night, though she's being oddly wallflowery about it — keeping to the sides of the room, not really interacting much unless explicitly approached or invited. If she's starting to look a little pale, it's probably just the light; either that, or the excitement is starting to catch up with her, and she's got to take it easy on herself lest she wear herself out before the fun has even really begun.]

12:00 AM to 1:30 AM — FIREWORKS SHOW AND AFTERWARD

[Come midnight and the ensuing fireworks, you can find Meridiana at one of the windows upstairs in the Topaz Observatory, fairly plastered to the glass and watching the bursts of color as they explode through the midnight sky. She's decidedly pale now, but determined to keep herself upright long enough to see the end of the fireworks; in the period of time afterward, however, you're most likely to find her lying down on a cushioned window seat, recuperating from all of the excitement and fervor of the day's activities before she starts trying to muster the willpower to get back up to her room for the night.]

1:30 AM

[The chirping of an Altaria was the only warning Meridiana would get before a black suit jacket was dropped over her shoulders. Of course that meant the scar Lancer had recieved from Fragarach was a little more visible, but that wasn't something that seriously concerned him.]

[It's the sound of the Altaria that seems to snap her out of her reverie, as a matter of fact; she'd been sort of staring off into space at nothing for a while there, and had absentmindedly forgotten to take out any of her Pokemon as a result. So it's really kind of lucky that it did let her know he was coming, all things considered, because that means it's also what keeps her from jumping half out of her skin when Lancer abruptly pops up.]

Lancer...hello! I'm very sorry, I didn't...I must've just wandered off in thought, a bit. Hello! You're having a pleasant evening, I hope?

Relax, don't worry about it. [Apparently having given up on her reluctant perch for the moment, Avalon seemed content to hover nearby.]

[SHE IS SO TINY but the swimming is probably not such a bad thing considering it's also helping to keep her warm, which she probably needs right now.]

[...ah, well, having at least one wallflower to speak to in the evening is never bad, particularly if one can ask said wallflower to a dance... but really, conversation is just as good in some instances.]

Isn't it, though? Ah, it's a shame we can't go outside of the hotel, though, even though there's more than enough to amuse us here. I'd imagine there's even more sights worth seeing... but this is good enough, I suppose.

Oh, I mean at this event in particular. You've been here in this world for quite some time, so I wouldn't expect you to fill me in on all of that... heavens, I'd bore you to tears if I tried to tell you everything I'd done since I ended up in this world.

Glad to see you came 'round to this little outing. Would've been a shame of you weren't here to see any of it.

Oh! Why, I'm liking it very well, thank you! I suppose it may sound a bit silly, but I'm really rather fond of seeing it the way we've been given the chance to like this — through great windows, like a lovely picture. I think...it'd be a bit much for me, to go walking through it proper.

Had my fill of the city earlier. It's a busy little port, sure enough. Couldn't resist taking a butchers for myself.

It's a bit like London. Cleaner though! Less chance of a pea-souper than back home.

[It's of course Joker to who the thick British accent belongs to, dressed in his own fine clothes- the only ones he really owns of course and in fact the very same he wore at the Prom in what will soon be last year. No need to waste perfectly good clothes, right?]

[He still has some circus makeup on his face, however. Can't take his livelihood out of him, apparently.]

[At his feet is a cheery little Mime Jr who gives a bright wave once she knows Meridiana's looking and Joker gives a bow to match it.]

[She makes herself a rather pretty picture, sitting near the flowers that way, and all things considered it's probably intentional.]

That was a very fine dinner, wasn't it? And so very generous of our host, to have provided; why, it's absolutely charming.

I'll say! Don't think I've ever had the pleasure of eatin' a meal like that.

[He's always been the one making them, to be quite honest. Kind of nice to not have to have lifted a finger, especially with how busy he's been.]

I first met this Lysandre fellow back in April, and I thought he was a bit serious, y'know the sort. But he must really have a heart of gold ta go through all this for us, huh?

You've met the host? I...that is, if I might be so forward as to ask, would you be so kind as to introduce us? I should very much like to thank him myself for all the courtesy he's shown us.

[And ask him why in god's name anyone ever thought jets were a good idea.]

I don't think there's anything so wrong with being serious, though. Solemn men are often gentlemen, just the same as jovial ones.

Ha, whenever I see a sort like that myself, I always just wanna see if I can get 'em ta laugh! I suppose it's just in my nature.

[And it's fun to poke people's buttons, but he's not going to say that.]

Anyway, I haven't seen 'im just yet, but if I do, I'll be more than glad ta introduce the two of ya. Think I'm a bit more acquainted with his lion, tho, truth be told. [Another laugh.] He was the first we saw who had a Pokemon from these parts! An absolutely beautiful lion, I'll never forget it.

[Dancing is one of those things that Banjou is absolutely terrible at. He has, however, been trying to learn. It's not something he's made a big secret of, either. He's taken a few classes, figuring if he ever wants to do something with Meridiana and not make a fool of himself, that's the way to do it.

He doesn't, however, want to be presumptuous. This is just something fun because she's a woman from the Victorian era. A person needs to do things like this properly, right? Even if he doesn't know a thing about what's proper in Victorian England.]

Why, Mr. Banjou! I'm liking it very well, thank you, and how kind of you to ask!

[She very clearly is enthusiastic about all this, now that the evening's gotten into the swing of things and she's feeling a little more confident; indeed, she even offers him a pretty curtsey in greeting.]

And I do hope you're having a fine time as well?

[Banjou gives a little bow of his head. It's not very practiced looking, because this isn't something he's used to doing, but the kindness and attempt at formality is there so hopefully that counts for something.]

I have.

[And there's a moment where he's suddenly unsure of himself, but Banjou told himself he'd do this, and dammit, it's time for him to do something for himself instead of passively wondering what Kaneki would want him to do for himself.]

I hope I'm not being presumptuous, Miss Everett, but may I have this dance?

Why, it's not presumptuous in the least! In fact, I'd be simply delighted, Mr. Banjou.

[To her credit, that's a pretty sincere acceptance, Victorian standards of ballroom manners or not. So, without much in the way of hesitation, she briskly catches up a fold of her skirt to help make walking easier, and offers her hand with the other.]

If we're to be honest, I should think I would still rather have a dance card, but this business of simply accepting dances as they come isn't nearly so much of a tangle as I'd thought it might be!
