It's been a damn long time since Heather's been to a fair, carnival, festival, or anything of the sort. They were things that her father had liked, and back when she was little, they had gone whenever one rolled through town. But that was a long time ago. Years had passed and things had changed-- and by the time they had started rolling back around to where she could do things with her father again-- well, there hadn't been enough time for that, let's just say.

But NOW there's time.

And by golly, she's not going to spend her first time getting to really be a kid again by herself.

Out of friggin' nowhere, a wild Heather emerges from the crowd and gloms onto Otacon's arm with both hands excitedly. She doesn't even give him time to do his usual flail and squeak before she's yammering away at him.

"HAL. Hal Hal Hal. They have candied apples!"

Daddy issues or no, he was not allowed to angst during the big event that was intended to give everyone a much-needed lift in spirits. Heather wasn't going to let him. He was going to have FUN, dangit.

"GAH--!"

He stumbled under the weight of the teenager suddenly attached to his arm, managing to stay upright after a few awkward steps.

"Geez, Heather, you scared me half to death!"

Wait...

"...They do, huh?"
foolishwren: are waiting to GOOF OFF with you (SILLY GIRLS in YOUR AREA)

[personal profile] foolishwren 2010-11-08 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course she scared him half to death-- it was what Heathers did. Given the crowd, it was sort of hard to see people coming, too.

"Yeah! I saw them in a booth-- there's hot caramel and nuts and everything."

She grinned a toothy grin.

"We should go eat them."

[identity profile] philanthrotaku.livejournal.com 2010-11-08 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
He met that grin with a bright smile in response, looking much more cheerful than he had been recently.

"I wholeheartedly agree with you. What do you think, Asimov?"

The Ampharos bleated happily, snuggling up to Heather.

He was smiling! That was a good sign, and something to be encouraged. Heather beamed right back, with that wide grin her face seemed to be built for.

"C'mon, let's get some before they're all gone!"

She laughed when the big wooly Pokemon cuddled up to her and tossed an arm around its oddly-human shoulders as she started to head back in the direction she'd wormed her way through the crowd from-- tugging on Otacon's sleeve with her other hand.

[identity profile] philanthrotaku.livejournal.com 2010-11-08 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay, okay, I'm right behind you." he said, laughing as she pulled on his sleeve.
foolishwren: like what if you tried to sue obama and you just got a letter back saying "no" and he came to your house and did the worm (can you even sue the president)

[personal profile] foolishwren 2010-11-08 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"You don't understand, it's candied apples. We gotta hurry or all the little kids will get 'em!"

She's mostly joking, although as the motley crew makes their way through the tight-packed crowd, it becomes evident that-- whoa, those things ARE going fast! The freshly-dipped apples, hot caramel still steaming, are selling like hotcakes.

[identity profile] philanthrotaku.livejournal.com 2010-11-08 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Quit pulling, geez...!"

There might have been a strategically placed sightly-stronger-than-static-shock or two to those daring to be in their way. Asimov would have noooothing to do with that, of course--would this face hurt a fly?

...Yes, yes it would.
foolishwren: as i was, you shall be (UGHGHGHGH)

[personal profile] foolishwren 2010-11-08 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Quit being slow, jeez!" came Heather's lovingly mocking imitation of his voice. But she does stop-- at least when they get to the crowd surrounding the booth.

They got there in fairly good time (thanks to the totally-innocent Asimov), but things look grim!

Heather lets out a groan and stands tip-toe to try and see over the crowd.

"Aw, man..."

[identity profile] philanthrotaku.livejournal.com 2010-11-08 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"...what a mess. What are we going to do?"

Did someone say 'nerd and brosis wanted candy apples?' Because Kotai seemingly heard 'nerd and brosis want candy apples'.

Therefore, that crowd suddenly had an eleven-foot snake LOOOOOMING over them.

And she's hungry.
foolishwren: like what if you tried to sue obama and you just got a letter back saying "no" and he came to your house and did the worm (can you even sue the president)

[personal profile] foolishwren 2010-11-09 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, we could--"

And then a shadow was cast over the crowd. Heather blinked, then looked over her shoulder. So did pretty much everybody else.

"... Oh."

Suddenly there were a lot of people deciding they didn't really want candied apples all that much after all.

[identity profile] philanthrotaku.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
"What's wr--"

Oh.

Facepalm.

"Kotai, was that really necessary?"
foolishwren: what doesn't kill you gives you a lot of unhealthy coping mechanisms and a really dark sense of humor (well you know what they say...)

[personal profile] foolishwren 2010-11-09 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes."

Heather was going to go ahead and say she appreciated Kotai's support thoroughly.

"C'mon, grab some before they all come back!"

Aaaand with that she was snatching up one for herself, money in hand. >8I CANDIED FUCKIN' APPLES.

[identity profile] philanthrotaku.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Siiiiigh.

To her credit, this was a very pleased snake. Who was getting a candy apple and swallowing it whole. Yes, even the stick.

"Figures, I catch all the Pokemon with some crazy issues." To wish Asimov gave a moderately annoyed bleat before going back to his own apple.
foolishwren: TWERKS like Gaston makes it werk like Gaston no one drops down that booty and JERKS like Gaston (nooooo.... OOOOOOONE....)

[personal profile] foolishwren 2010-11-09 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Heather spoke somewhat awkwardly around a mouthful of apple, peanuts, and not-quite-cooled-enough-to-chew caramel.

"She doesn't have issues, she just knows what she wants! And gets it. I can admire that."

She reached up and gave Kotai's hood a pat, having gotten more or less used to being around the big snake while they'd all been traveling from Azalea.

[identity profile] philanthrotaku.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
And for that Heather would be getting cobra head nuzzles.

"Whatever you say." he replied with a laugh, petting Asimov.
foolishwren: what doesn't kill you gives you a lot of unhealthy coping mechanisms and a really dark sense of humor (well you know what they say...)

[personal profile] foolishwren 2010-11-09 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yaaaaaaaaay~

She'd never known before Kotai that snakes could be so affectionate, but hey. It was safe to say that everyone here in Johto had learned a lot after coming here.

"I do say."

[identity profile] philanthrotaku.livejournal.com 2010-11-09 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Guess I'll have to agree with you."

Pause.

"So what should we do next?"
