He'd managed to get the Buneary for free since it was a gift and the past couple days had been spent carrying it around with him so he could get it closer to hatching before he gave it to Tot. Nagi wanted to see the look on her face when she realized what was inside it and that it meant she had a new cute animal protecter here along with her Snubbull.

With their camp set up and the Psyduck sitting out to at least alert him to anything coming close, Nagi moved over to Tot and smiled at her. "I have a present for you."

It was odd here and there were so many things she still found confusing, but with Nagi around it wasn’t so bad. In fact, Tot found it a lot nicer in this strange place with someone familiar, and while it could have been anyone else, the fact that it was Nagi made it even better.

When Nagi came over to talk with her, Tot just smiled back at him. Present or not, Nagi always made Tot happy even if she didn’t understand why. “Tot likes presents! What is it?”

Nagi hoped he was explaining everything to her well enough that she could fight on her own if they got separated, but his goal was to get her up to going to Violet City with him so he could win his first badge and really keep her happy and impressed. Making Tot happy was his main goal now -- he didn't know if he'd ever get to see her like that at home.

He pulled out the egg and let her look it over. "It's going to be a Buneary when it hatches soon. It's not pink like your bunny at home, but...." It was still a bunny and it was still adorable.

If Tot had known Nagi was so worried over her fighting abilities, she would have found it really sweet and kind of silly. Of course, she could fight if she ever needed to and she had her puppy to protect her as well.

She knows Nagi is worried over her but she wasn’t really sure just why. As it is, Tot only has Nagi’s word they had once kissed. It makes her happy to think so, to believe Nagi since he had never lied to her; she just wished she remembered it as well.

The egg was an unexpected gift. Tot wasn’t sure how to react to the egg until Nagi mentioned her stuffed rabbit that had been left at home. “It’s…it’s going to be a bunny?” The thought alone was enough to make her look at Nagi and beam in hope.

Well, with weapons taken away and half of Schwarz here, Nagi couldn't help worrying. He knew what had happened to Tot once and didn't want a repeat of that, even if this place seemed to make violence less of a worry than simply surviving and making it from town to town.

Nagi couldn't tell Tot that she died at home, or that he nearly did the same to revive her. That would only make her sad all over again. All he could do was travel with her, protect her, and enjoy this chance while it lasted.

He nodded at her. "It will. Someone was offering the eggs, so I made sure to get you one."

Maybe it was a good thing Nagi was around to try and keep Tot from finding out too much about what was going to happen in her future. Losing Neu had been hard enough, and discovering the one who was responsible was here as well was …well Tot was still trying to work that one out. Coming face to face with someone who wouldn’t think twice about taunting her with her own fate would not be a positive experience.

Tot made a noise somewhere between a squeak and a squeal as she took the egg from Nagi. It was the most exciting thing ever and Nagi had gotten the egg just for her. As happy as the egg made Tot, it also made her a little sad. Holding the egg close, Tot sighed, “But Tot doesn’t have anything to give Nagi.”

If Tot wanted to meet Yohji and properly get mad at him for killing Neu, Nagi wouldn't stop her. He'd stand far away enough to jump in if needed, but that was her choice to make, like it was his choice if he ever wanted to talk to Ken about the reason for his lingering grudge.

Once she took the egg and Nagi was certain it wouldn't drop, he took a slow breath, nervous at the thought of actually acting on what else he'd decided to do while he could. "You don't have to give me anything. I'm happy just having you here."

And with that, he kissed her.

Tot had no plans to confront Yohji anytime soon; even she understands she couldn’t do anything on her own. But if she knew Nagi would be there, it would be easier on her however things went.

Considering how happy Tot was just to receive the egg from Nagi, there was, no way she would let it drop. After his words, she went to protest that it was only fair for her to give him something in return when he kissed her. Once he pulled back, Tot’s hand went automatically to her lips. It wasn’t because she had dislike the kiss, rather she was shocked by it. Shocked and more than a little delighted.

A bunny egg and her first kiss? There was no way she would ever be able to forget this day.

If she brought it up, he'd offer to watch over her the entire time. Until then, he'll just stay with her like he's been doing.

He didn't want anything in return even if she tried to get him an egg or a Pokemon in return. Nagi'd accept a gift; he simply didn't expect one. Their kiss wasn't long, but it was enough to make Nagi happy all over again that this wasn't home and nothing terrible was about to happen to her soon.

He smiled at her. "Since you didn't remember it happening before."

“Thank you.” For the egg, for the kiss, for…oh Tot could have come up with a dozen or more things she meant by that but didn’t know how to say. This was the happiest she’d been in a long time and it was hard to express but she was sure Nagi understood.

It was easier to think about something else instead, something that didn’t confuse her, something like the new egg. Tot had never heard of a rabbit hatching from an egg before--eggs were for birds. “When will it become a bunny?”

"You're welcome." He understood that it's a thanks for plenty of things and she didn't need to be more specific at all.

Nagi looked at the egg, but before he could answer, the Psyduck walked over and pointed when it began to wiggle.

[It's going to be soon, apparently.]

Nagi’s Psyduck wasn’t the only one that came over to where they were sitting. Tot’s Snubbull, who had been off playing in the bushes again, came as well trying to make sure she was okay as Tot squeaked when the egg in her hands started to move. The egg was quickly placed upon the ground as she backed up as far as she could to watch.

When the egg started to glow, Tot glanced back at Nagi looking to make sure it was supposed to behave that way. She’d never seen an egg hatch before but she had heard about the process; this wasn’t what she’d been told at least not with baby birds.

Eventually the glow intensified and then just as quickly faded to reveal an adorable little brown, tan, and pink pile of fluff. Tot let out a squeal this time and turned quickly to hug Nagi before she pounced on the newly hatched Buneary, scooping it up into both arms.

Nagi smiled a little and stood back to watch as well. He'd seen his Abra and Cubone hatch, and Wooper and Piplup were about to as well, but there was always something interesting about seeing one spring to life from an egg even if the animal really didn't seem like the sort to come from that. Apparently biology was different here in Pokéland.

"That's how it always is here," he assured. The glowing just meant hatching was pretty much iminent.

He hugged her back and then let her cuddle the fluffy new animal.

The Buneary seemed to have no issue with Tot’s typical bunny hold having fallen asleep in her arms while she petted it. Of course, this whole thing just brought a few more questions up that Tot needed answers for. Having paid attention to all of the chatter on the Pokégear, Tot knew that most of the Pokémon came in boys and girls and that most people gave them names, which just made sense otherwise how would they know who you were talking to.

“How do you tell which ones are boys and which ones are girls?” Tot hoped Nagi knew how to tell; she was pretty sure she had a name for the bunny if it was a boy.

Nagi knew how to tell now, after an incident where he assumed his Abra was male, only to have the girl Teleport away from him for a day. He watched her cuddle the bunny and reached down to pet Schu's feathers. As annoying as the Psyduck could be, he'd grown on Nagi.

"There's a section of your Pokégear to help out," he explained. To demonstrate, he grabbed the Gear, set it to the Pokédex, and pointed it at her Buenary. The machine would figure it out...somehow.

Tot watched as the Pokédex popped up the information about the newly hatched Buneary and then turned it toward the Snubbull who had found a place to lie down close to where they sat. Not that it mattered that the Snubbull was a female since Tot had already decided to rename her puppy Spot; but she had hoped the bunny was a male.

Nagi had told her he was going to stay with her, but she had thought the same thing about Papa and Neu until Weiss…at least if the bunny was a male she would have always had a Nagi around. As it was, with the Buneary being a female Tot could only think of one thing to name it, “Neu.”

He didn't mind her using it to check on both of her Pokémon, since Nagi assumed she'd never been able to check before. Some types had differences between boys and girls, but most looked identical and they needed help like this telling them apart.

Tot could always find a Ditto and try to create a boy Buneary if someone told her the basics about breeding, he thought since he didn't know the first thing about that himself. The name, though, made a lot of sense. "That's a good name for her."

Tot was glad Nagi liked the name; it made it easier to use the name for the Buneary. She got up from where she had been sitting, handed Nagi back his Pokégear and hugged him once more—not so quickly this time. “Thank you. For giving Tot Neu.” There was no doubting the smile upon her face as she said this.

Afterward, she walked over to where the sleeping Snubbull laid upon the ground. “Pup…Spot, if you’re tired we should go to bed.” So much had happened in the past few days, and now with the new bunny Tot wasn’t so sure she would sleep anytime soon, but she still looked back to Nagi, “Right?”

Nagi took the Pokégear back and let her hug him as long as she wanted to. It always felt nice to be this close to her since he still hadn't found her at home, even with Mamoru's influence helping him. "You're welcome."

He nodded at the thought of sleep. A nap sounded nice before they continued travelling.
