"Skarmory, please get off the eggs. It's time to train."
Mamoru's Skarmory looked him calmly in the eyes, though she did not budge an inch. She'd spent every moment they weren't walking parked atop the trio of eggs Mamoru had acquired days ago, convinced that it was vital to their hatching properly. She ignored both requests and orders to get off of them. She clicked her beak at anyone drawing near with the exception of Togepi. Mamoru sighed and pulled a Poké Snack from his pocket.
"You're hungry, right? Come on."
Skarmory cawed at him with an affronted look. She still didn't move. Togepi, however, saw the Poké Snack and became ecstatic for it, running over as fast as he could and making pitiful little jumps for Mamoru's hand-- easily over a foot out of reach even at the apex of his jump.
"Prrrrrrriiiiiiiiii!!!"
Mamoru sighed. This was not going well.

Sneasel, always out of her ball, was right beside Aya, watching Togepi with some amusement. They weren't friendly creatures but Aya's Sneasel at least considered their travel companions to be part of her pack, so worth protecting just as much as picking on.
"You know, it's usually not a good idea to try getting between a mother and her kids."
no subject
"She isn't their mother. She's only a month old herself... Why is she so attached to those eggs?"
no subject
Sneasel wasn't exactly following any given cue, but picked up Togepi to help it try to reach the snack while the two trainers were talking.

"That's true."
Being a former assassin, Mamoru was not so unaware of his surroundings as to miss the conspiracy at his feet between the two Pokémon. However, he'd read about Sneasel just as he'd researched Riolu and all of the other Pokémon in his group's parties, and Mamoru was of the belief it was probably best not to get on the wrong side of one. As far as picking one's battles went, a Poké Snack was not worth it.
So when Togepi latched onto the cake-slice-shaped treat and chomped a bite from it, Mamoru simply surrendered it to him. He could at least find a degree of amusement in the positively orgasmic levels of happiness this snack brought Togepi. The Pokémon flailed its arms and legs with another excited trill. Then, as though only just realizing that Aya's Sneasel was responsible for the acquisition, Togepi broke the Poké Snack in half and offered one piece to her.
Mamoru donned a soft, accepting smile and looked to Aya. "Then, it seems I'll have to focus training efforts on my others, doesn't it? I'm sure after that extra snack, Togepi could use the workout."
Togepi squeaked, "Toge?"
Translation: D:
It shouldn't be legal for a Pokemon to be that cute jsyk
She didn't hesitate long, accepting the piece with a happy "Sneasel!" in return. She'd remember that!
Aya watched the two with a soft giggle, glad they were getting along. She'd been worried when she found out Sneasel were... well, when she'd read up on the species, but she also figured she had one for a reason. She puts a hand over her mouth and stifles her laughter at poor Togepi though.
"Can't really argue with that logic, sorry Togepi." She smiled, but she was interrupted by a familiar white glowing coming from her arms. It looked like her diligence was going to pay off this time!
ffft, I have too much fun with him I think
That is what they are here for. >;)
Sneasel seemed torn on this matter, being a feline herself, but pack mates were pack mates.
"I wonder what type you are? Welcome to the team!"
The puppy let out a soft growl, not threatening, and looked up at her new trainer and then Mamoru, and finally back again. Aya let the newly hatched Pokemon sniff at her hand while her free one reached for her Pokegear.

He didn't try to get any closer to the Houndour, though the piece of shell on its head was an endearing sight. Better for it to be clear which of them it was partnered to.
Togepi had no such forethought. He simply had to investigate this new addition. Immediately.
"Toge toge!"
Walking right up to the Houndour, Togepi stared up, blinked, and with an open-mouthed smile offered her the remainder of the Poké Snack.

Yuki barked his name in approval, rising up on his hind paws to brace, front paws against her chest to lick her face. Aya laughed and rubbed the top of his head.
"Okay, Yuki! I already had a bath!"
Yuki didn't need a lot of convincing, turning to Togepi cheerfully and licked him before taking the remainder of the snack.
"Looks like they made fast friends." The trainer smiled.

"So it does," he said.
Togepi, now sporting a fine film of slobber one one side of his face, chirped at the naming of the Houndour and turned, as though lost, to Mamoru.
Togepi had realized something over the course of all his time with his trainer: all of the other trainers gave their Pokémon names. Why did he not have one? Shouldn't he? For a time, he'd not paid much mind because there were more important things like eating and exploring. Now that he was a little older, the lack of a name seemed more pressing a trouble. He did not like being left out, and it seemed like the process of naming was a way that individuals were singled out and made special. That Mamoru might not find him or any of his other Pokémon special was something of an upsetting thought indeed.
With this question now stronger than ever in his mind, he waddled over to Mamoru and tugged on the ankle of his pants leg while pointing to Yuki and chattering away in Pokéspeak.
But to Mamoru, what Togepi wanted was fully a mystery.
"What...? Another snack?"
Togepi chirped and shook his head. He gestured more emphatically to Yuki.
"That doesn't make sense."
Togepi trilled in exasperation. Giving up on Mamoru, he ran to Aya instead and embarked on a desperate high-pitched appeal to her.

Aya observed the unfolding scenario with curiosity. She didn't quite get it herself until Togepi turned to her. Since her hands were free at the moment she picked up the little Pokemon and gave him a smile.
"Hmm, is this about Yuki getting a nickname?"
no subject
Of course Mamoru would always be his partner (of this he was certain), but oh what a wonderful thing it was to be understood!
"Toge toge!" And just for good measure, he beamed and nodded. Then began to chitter and point to himself.
no subject
"Your partner is feeling a bit left out, Mamoru-kun. I think he wants a nickname."
no subject
That certainly seemed to be the case. Togepi was responding affirmatively to her guesses. Mamoru thought she should probably consider becoming a translator for Pokémon; she seemed to have a gift for understanding them.
But for Togepi... that could be difficult. Once upon a time, Mamoru had considered naming his Pokémon. Then he'd realized he simply wasn't very good at choosing Pokémon names and abandoned the prospect.
Clearly, his Pokémon hadn't followed suit. He looked down, avoiding both Aya's and his Togepi's gaze.
"I don't know what to choose."
no subject
She settled Togepi back in his Trainer's hold with a soft smile and gaze, making sure Mamoru had a good hold on Togepi before letting go by covering one of his hands with hers.
"Ganbatte kudasai!"

The seconds passed without any reaction from Mamoru. Finally, he could only drop his gaze down and to one side, his expression almost guilty.
"Yeah."
