If only they had Appa... [Active/Open]
Who: Toph Bei Fong, Aang, and anyone else they may run in to on Route 29.
Where: Route 29
When: Today, and the next few days too.
Summary: Toph and Aang are on their way to meet up with Katara.
Rating: PG?
Log:
Toph didn't pause at all when she walked out on to Route 29. She could feel Aang near her, and her Sandshrew, Melon Lord, was also at her side. She could also feel a lot of other creatures in the trees and running around in the grassy areas, but she wasn't too concerned about them. They were all pretty small, so they couldn't be too hard to avoid. Even if they did run in to any of them, she was sure Melon Lord could take them out.
"It's bad enough we lost Appa once. I miss having him." Not only was it convenientand terrifying to fly, but Appa was a member of the team, or the Gaang, as Sokka would put it. Toph kept going though, Melon Lord following close behind.

The thought of Appa was enough to distract Aang from a few details that were perhaps more relevant to his situation. Such as the quiet sound of a few seeds that had once been caught on his shirt but had finally succumbed to gravity. Or the small "Pi, pi," that was coming from somewhere quite close by.

Aang might have missed the sounds coming from a bird, but Toph sure didn't. Still, it didn't bother her. It was just a bird. Of course, it was bigger than a lot of the birds back home, but it wasn't doing anything. Melon Lord seemed interested in it though, and he started wandering over to it. "Melon Lord, what are you doing? It's just a bird."
""
"Maybe you still don't get it." Toph stopped in her tracks. "I have no idea what you're saying. You're not allowed to eat the bird."

"" Char was even slower in noticing the Pidgey than Aang, but he was just as curious, if not more so. He drew quite close to it, and the Pidgey let out at a sharp cry.

"So?" Toph, being blind, hadn't been able to read the pamphlets about how to be a Pokemon Trainer. To her, it was just a wild bird. "You think you can make it your pet like Momo?"

"What else did that book say?"

"Alright, so you can't really firebend yet..." His eyes flickered to Char's small yet sharp claws. "Can you scratch it maybe?"
"" Char clawed the Pidgey, causing a much stronger reaction than Aang had planned. The little bird fell to the ground, looking beleagured.
"And now the ball..." Aang threw it cautiously, but luckily it hit. It shook one, two, three times... and stopped. "I did it!"

""
"Sorry Melon Lord. I wanted to see if you could fit in one too." She turned back to Aang. "So I guess that bird thing is your new pet, huh? What did you say we're supposed to do with these things?"

"It sounds like there's some sort of tournament going on." She stood up and pointed to her Pokemon. "We're gonna be the best, right?"
"" Melon Lord was full of enthusiasm. He hopped up and punched the air, just missing the Pidgey.

"It says she's a girl," he told Toph. "Hm... I think I'll name you Kotane."
"" the newly christened Kotane chirped. She hopped up onto Toph's extended hand, watching her carefully.
((OOC note: 'Kotane' is a bit of a pun in Japanese; it means 'small seed', but it's also a portmanteau of 'koto', pigeon, and 'tane', seed, which is how a lot of Pokemon names are formed.))

Rustling came from a patch of nearby grass. Toph stood up and turned towards it. A Sentret popped out and looked at the party in front of it, startled. It dropped a berry it was holding.
"Alright! It's our turn, Melon Lord! Go get it!"
"" Melon Lord bounded to the Sentret and got ready to battle.
"You've got pretty big claws. Scratch it!" Melon Lord did so, and the Sentret went down. Toph had picked up the Pokeball she had thrown at her Sandshrew and tried it on the Sentret. It disappeared inside the Pokeball, which wiggled a few times before it went still. Melon Lord performed a victory dance.
"Hey, that was easy." Toph went over to the Pokeball and picked it up, unintentionally releasing her new Pokemon. It lay motionless on the ground, but Toph just mimicked Aang and sprayed it with the potion she dug out of her bag. "Hey Aang, can you check and see if this thing's a girl or a boy?"
((OOC note: Sentret's going to be a girl, but Toph can't read her pokegear. Also, I didn't know that about how Pokemon are named in Japan. That's pretty cool!))

"I think I'll call her Suki." She laughed. If only the real Suki was around to hear that a little fuzz-ball was named after her. "Alright Suki, you're a part of the team now!" The Sentret just looked up and gave Toph a confused look.
"We better get going though. We're supposed to meet Katara in the next city, right?"

"C'mon Melon Lord." Toph led the way with her Sandshrew at her side. "There's a lot of these Pokemon around. I can feel them everywhere." Not only that, but the grass didn't seem to stop rustling from some sort of creature running through it.
