Who:
usedwindything and
usedtherapy
Where: Goldenrod
When: 6/8 at 7pm
Summary: John and Rose finally have their first real date.
Rating: G (there is some minor language in the action brackets but other than that, this is just horribly awkward fluff.)
Log: [Was it really 6:50? Really? Really? When did that happen?! Oh god, he wasn't ready for this. Not at all.]
[Butterflies in his stomach? Yeah, he had those. But they weren't happy little butterflies. No. No they were definitely overexcited, nervous butterflies. Honestly, John kind of felt like throwing up.]
[Nervously, he readjusted his tie for what must have been at least the tenth time in the past fifteen minutes or so. He really hoped that the tie wasn't too much. Dress pants (dark green, to compliment the bright green of his tie) and a dress shirt (plain white, of course) wasn't over-dressed, right? And a suit would just be overkill, surely...oh god why was he still antagonizing over this? It was just clothes! This is the kind of stuff girls worry about!]
[He glanced at the clock on his pokegear and nearly had a heart attack. It couldn't be 6:57. Lies! This thing had to be broken because there was no way it had been seven minutes since the last time he had looked.]
[Okay, deep breaths Egbert. You have this. What was it Dave said? Oh right. Rose is "all about you. She's like your goddamn biography, dude. Five hundred pages of John Goddamn Egbert, just waiting for you to read her." Yeah. Okay. You're cool. Just...one more adjustment of the tie and another brushing of the pants. Yeah that should be good. Just look in the mirror. Yeah, you look awesome dude, you so hav-- jesus, did you even ATTEMPT to do anything with your hair?]
[Oh wait, that's right. You gave up on that effort after about five minutes of struggling with it to no avail. Well, too late to do anything about that now, Rose will be here any minute!]

But then what did that leave her with? She couldn't wear her squiddles tee and skirt. She always wore that. You do not wear clothing you always wear on dates. Plus, while she wasn't taking them to any fancy restaurant or anything, it was still a rather nice one, and she wanted to look nice for that.
...no, quit lying to yourself Rose. You want to look nice for John. That's what this fussing is about.
A light lavender sundress with a dark purple wrap around the middle for accent, lavender lacy socks, a pair of black Mary Janes and a lack of her iconic hairband later, she was standing outside John's door. She had been for a good ten minutes, having arrived early and not knowing if she had the courage to knock.
It took a few deep breaths, a few uncompleted knocks, and a quiet "John actually accepted it, Rose. That has to say something. Your brother would be disappointed in you for being such a wuss about this" pep talk before she was finally rapping her knuckles gently against his door.
She hadn't had butterflies the entire day or evening. Now she did.]]

[You didn't think to get flowers, did you, John? Nope. Sure didn't. Well there's mistake number one right there! Good job!]
[Taking a deep breath and trying his best to arrange his face into a look of something aside from terror
the attempt is failing, for the record, John pulled the door open.][And his jaw nearly dropped. It wasn't that he had expected her to look anything other than pretty, no. Because Rose always looked pretty. He wasn't sure exactly what it was, but he was suddenly struck speechless.]
[...at least he doesn't look as nervous now? Yup. Just gaping like an idiot instead.]

Instead, she fidgeted lightly, giving him a once over. She was relieved he hadn't gone with a full suit - she would have felt guiltily underdressed if he had - and pleased with his choice. Not that she would have really cared. She may not be allowed to go in her squiddles tee, but he could have gone in his slimer if he wanted to and she would have been happy all the same.
Trying to tuck a lock of bangs behind her ear - not really caring as it slipped back from it's place there - she smiles a little. As non-intimidating, non-nervously as possible.]]
...Good evening John. You...you look quite handsome.
[[That just sounded stupid, Rose. Good job.]]
1/2
Th-Thanks, Rose. [Did his voice seriously just crack mid-Rose? Oh hai puberty, where have you been hiding? He clears his throat a little before continuing.] You look...really pretty!
2/2
I mean! U-Um. Beautiful! Gorgeous! Spectacular! Dazzling! [Yeah, he's starting to panic again. Because, seriously? Pretty? 8|]
no subject
Thank you, John. So...shall we go? Are you ready?
[[What's this John? Why, she's offering you her hand.]]
no subject
Y-Yeah! Yeah, I am ready.
[Well, he will just have to take it then. Please ignore the fact that it's shaking and just the tiniest bit sweaty. And with the other one he is going to close the door.]
no subject
It's a quaint little...I want to say cafe almost, however that isn't what it is. Simply what it reminds me of.
[[Idle conversation!]]
I came across it a few days ago, and believe you'll enjoy it as much as I will.
[["It's different," she wanted to add, but figured keeping it's differences a surprise would be the best option.]]
no subject
That sounds nice. I am sure that I will. [A pause.] Um...s-so. [Quick, John! Think of a topic of conversation! Come on, you never had trouble talking to her before. Why is it suddenly so hard to think of something to talk about?]
no subject
[[She hasn't a clue what to talk about either. Simply continuing to lead him to the lobby, and then out the door.
This really, really shouldn't be so hard. This wasn't any different than normal...right?]]

Do you know anything on them? You seem to know their evolution chain, at the very least.
no subject
I know a little bit about them, yeah! They evolve twice: first into Dragonair, and then into Dragonite. But it takes a while for them to evolve. They don't hit their final stage until...level 55, I think it was. But it's worth it to raise them that long. They are incredibly powerful. Plus, as Dragonites, you can fly on them!
[This isn't a hard topic to talk about at all! Let's just keep talking about pokemon, Rose. For the first time since the memo last night, he's finally starting to relax a bit.]
no subject
Oh? I hadn't realized you could fly on any of the Pokemon. Though I suppose with how large some, such as Pidgeot, are, I shouldn't be surprised.
[[This is a lovely topic. She enjoys listening to you ramble about things you know. You keep doing that, and she'll continue leading towards the cafe.]]
no subject
Yeah, you can! You need an HM in order to teach it to them though. Which is...kind of dumb considering the fact that they can already fly but, whatever. Oh, and then you need Falkner's gym badge in order to actually use it once you have the HM. I don't know where you get it, but I can't wait to find it.
[ramble, ramble, ramble. THIS IS WHAT YOU GET FOR DATING A NERD, ROSE.]
no subject
Falkner...that's back in Violet. I suppose I will need to return there at some point to challenge him should I ever want to fly then, huh? HM? Is that similar to a TM? And if so, can't that simply be purchased here?
no subject
Well that shouldn't be too hard to do. I mean, once one of us beats the gym here, we can loop back to Violet easily. We have to pick up Nepeta and Tavros, anyway, so it should work out just fine. But and HM is like a special TM. There aren't as many of them and you can use them as many times as you want. But no, you can't buy them. At least, you couldn't in the games.
no subject
[[Listening to the rest of his explanation, she nods.]]
If you can't buy them, how would you obtain them?
[[Do you see where they are heading, John? Are you paying attention? It looks to be a pretty interesting cafe.]]
no subject
As for that...I honestly have no idea. In the games you had to do like...I guess you could call them side quests? It's about as close to a quest as you got in pokemon, anyway. Do some random NPC a favor or solve a puzzle, get an HM in return. Though somehow I doubt that's how it works here.
[Is he paying attention to his surroundings? No. Not really. His brain is in thinking mode now, sorry.]
no subject
Little quests, hm? Interesting. Perhaps I will start asking around about these.
[[Well, once they reach the place, she stops. It is certainly interestingly lit, from the looks of it, even if you're only glancing in through windows. Blues and greens, and gentle glowing almost.]]
no subject
[We're stopping. Why are we stopping? Oh.]
Is this the place?
no subject
And yes, this is the place. After you, John.
[[She wants you to be awed by the decor. Black marble, comfy black cushion seats. From the inside it'll be easy to tell that the windows are dimmed, much like sunglasses, and that aside from what little light is cast in through the window on the kitchen door? The cafe is illuminated by jars under black light, the glass mottled with glow paint.]]
no subject
Woah...
[Yeah...he's awed. It's so...glow-y.]
no subject
I had a feeling you would find this delightful. Where would you like to sit, hm?
no subject
Wherever is fine... [He's just going to keep looking around like this is the coolest thing he's seen in a while. Which...it is.]

<-- john's face forever as far as quadrants are concerned.
Poor John
he just thinks the entire concept is unnecessarily complicated.
Well perhaps it is culturally interesting?
not when karkat is the one explaining it to him. :|
Well maybe he should ask Rose. Rose would make it fun. :3c
pfffttt
You know she would.
