Hey hey guys let's go shopping~

Who: Aoko Nakamori, Crow Hogan, and Heather Mason
Where: Olivine City
When: Today
Summary: Kaito's birthday is coming up, and these guys have to shop for presents, decorations, etc.
Rating: LET'S KEEP THIS PG GUYS.
Log: Aoko was pretty happy today. It was great weather, and she was going to hang out with Heather and Crow. She grabbed her purse, and walked downstairs to meet the others. A bright smile went across her face as she met them outside. Today they were going to start shopping for Kaito's birthday. And she really wanted him to have a good birthday. She doubled-checked her wallet to make sure a good amount of money was in there. Yep, a good amount. Good thing she got a job a couple weeks ago. If it was Kaito's birthday, then she definitely had to help pay for it. Nothing's too good for him, after all.

When she was all set to go, she looked at her friends and smiled.

"Well! Wanna get going, then?"

HEATHER PROTESTS THE PG RATING. Birthday-shopping should involve profanity and explosions!

When Aoko came down the stairs, Heather had been facing the lobby windows, thumbs in the belt-loops of her shorts and eyes lidded against the glare of the sunshine. Hot out today. WAY hot. It was the time of year for tank-tops, sandals, and ice cream. Right now she had-- ... well, okay, only two of the three-- but hey, today was a day out. She could always bully the other two into getting the latter with her once they were done.

She had arrived in Johto almost exactly a year before-- and, well, back then, she hadn't much been able to appreciate the summertime in the wake of having been yanked into a different world. This year, however... it was gonna be different. No-- it already was different. A good kind of different.

At the sound of Aoko's voice, she turned around with a half-grin.

"I'm ready. Better get the show on the road if we wanna get things done without running into the birthday boy somewhere along the line and having to explain ourselves to him. ... But for the record, if we do, we should totally just stare at him awkwardly and be like, 'We're doing market research', or something. And then ask him if he wants to come around and interview angry people door-to-door on their mouthwash preferences with us."

how are we even supposed to DISCUSS THINGS in PG?

'Hot' was the only fitting word to describe the past few days and at this point, Crow had been forced to ditch his trademark vest in an attempt to not make the situation worse by layering clothes, but truth to be told? It didn't help much. But as much as doing anything in such heat wasn't the duelist's idea of a perfect afternoon, he was actually rather optimistic about the whole birthday shopping thing. After all, he had never actually participated in something like that, much less a birthday party itself, so it was only natural he was thrilled for it.

Funny how none of this would have probably happened if he hadn't somehow ended up in an entirely different world nearly a year ago.

He was hoping to be able to talk to Heather about what had (supposedly?) happened during the time everyone in Johto had been (again, supposedly?) asleep for three days, but seeing as he didn't even know exactly what it was about and expecting Aoko to show up in a few minutes, he gave up on it, settling down in one of the lobby's armchairs comfortably. It wasn't long until the last member of their little conspiration showed up, causing him to jump to his feet with a wide grin.

"Ready when you guys are!" He confirmed, snickering at Heather's remark. That would probably keep anyone away from pursuing the subject, yes.

Aw, Crow. Come. Come engage in normal teen/young-adult behavior. ... With two girls. This day will either be a blast, or torture.

As for those three days... well, Heather was a little curious too, but right now, there were more important things to be doing. LIKE ~*~SHOPPING~*~

Folding her arms behind her head, she beamed at the two of them.

"I'm full of good ideas. And so are you, 'cause that's the best idea I've heard all day."

She patted her pocket to make sure her wallet was still there-- the nice thing about lingering in cities longer than a few days was NOT having to carry all of her stuff around with her constantly-- and then made for the door, tugging it open and stepping back.

"Ladies first!"

... Aaand a playful grin shot in Crow's direction to show she didn't mean anything by it.

Probably a little of both.

Although Crow was not a great fan of shopping in general -- because shopping meant spending money, and back home it had always been his hard-earned money, and then calculating if there's enough left for daily supplies and bills and rent -- in other words, shopping had never been fun for him before, but he figured this might as well be the first time for that. After all, shopping for a friend's birthday would be entirely different.

"Sounds like a plan!"

He followed the girls to the door, only stopping abruptly at Heather's comment and giving her a slightly confused look that was quickly replaced by a smirk.

"Well then, what are you waiting for?"
foolishwren: YA GIRL... (HEY DEMONS IT'S ME...)

[personal profile] foolishwren 2011-06-15 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Heather had been a bigger fan of it a few years ago than she was now. After what had happened in that shopping mall back in Maine... well, it had lost its appeal for awhile, she'd say that much.

But years had passed-- it was a new day. She was willing to let go of those old scars enough to enjoy a day out and get back a little of the spark she used to have. ... Er, without the shoplifting she used to do way back when. Ahem.

She just grinned wolfishly at Crow and then did an elaborate, flourishy bow.

"No, no, I insist."
darkenedgales: (that's what she said.)

[personal profile] darkenedgales 2011-06-16 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe his lesser interest in shopping originated from the simple (and kind of obvious, Heather) fact he was a guy, or maybe it was because he had been more used to breaking into Security's storehouses to get the stuff he wants. The latter wasn't an option in Johto anyway, so he could go with this.

... Provided they would actually leave the inn.

He folded his arms, the sly smile not leaving his face for even a second.

"I've got a lot of time on my hands, y'know."

PFFFFTT, fine.

With rolled eyes, Heather finally steps through the door.

"All right, all right. Spoilsports."

It's pretty obvious that she's not mad, though-- and she shades her eyes as she steps into the sun.

Crow beams at the girls, his overall posture seemingly saying 'I WIN', even if there's no reason to feel proud in the first place. He's also aware Heather's not angry at all, so her comment doesn't bother him in the slightest, only causing his grin to widen a little.

He follows the others outside, stretching in the sun while there.

"So, where are we going first?"

Just to clarify that no, he did NOT win, Heather gives Crow a rough but playful punch on the shoulder when he catches up.

"I think I saw a few neat places down by the docks. For all I know they just sell cheesy souvenirs, but hey, it's as good a place as any to start."
darkenedgales: (like a dream come true.)

[personal profile] darkenedgales 2011-06-18 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
He gets it, but that doesn't stop him from grinning at her like the cat that ate the canary in response to the punch. Let it be known that Crow-sama always wins, even when he doesn't really.

Ah, the docks. He kind of smiles to himself at that particular suggestion. After all, he spent a huge chunk of his life living in docks. Even so, he hasn't visited the Olivine ones yet...

"I like the idea. Let's go!"
foolishwren: as i was, you shall be (Default)

[personal profile] foolishwren 2011-06-18 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
NUH UH, CROW, I THINK YOU'LL FIND IT'S THE OPPOSITE THAT'S TRUE. ... IN Heather's head, anyway. But time's a wastin', so OFF TO THE DOCKS THEY GO.

It's a little cooler right next to the water-- but still warm, and getting progressively warmer as the sun climbs in the sky. The creaking of rocking boats and the rush of waves slapping against the docks and rock walls making up the streets that lined the shore was met with the noises of general bustle-- the people of this town clearly got up early. Unsurprisingly for a fishing community.

Heather shaded her eyes again once they were nearing the shops and cafes.

"See anything promising-looking?"
darkenedgales: (pretty sure this wasn't in my contract.)

[personal profile] darkenedgales 2011-06-20 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
The Olivine docks are nothing like what Crow is used to -- namely, they're clean, safe and full of buzz and laughter -- or in other words, life -- thanks to all the sailors and merchants. If you ask him, the place feels really nice.

--But this isn't about the place, but rather what they can find there!

"Not unless we're planning on getting him one of these lighthouse miniatures, nope."

And then Crow is forced to explain for the next to minutes to the seller that no, he's really not interested in buying one.

[personal profile] foolishwren 2011-06-23 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
She doesn't bother hiding her snickers at watching Crow getting accosted by streetside vendors-- though when they REALLY won't leave him alone, she'll be stepping in brightly to throw an arm around Crow's shoulders and steeeeeeer him away from the vendors.

"Balloons and streamers! Sounds promising, let's go."
darkenedgales: (oh hey we're in 3D!)

[personal profile] darkenedgales 2011-06-25 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Crow appreciates her help, because honestly? It was needed. Not that he'll admit it, muttering 'thanks' under his breath before immediately turning his attention to the store Aoko's pointing at.

"Hey, isn't that exactly what we're looking for? Let's check it out!"

With that cheerful proclamation, the duelist pretty much storms into the colorful store.

It doesn't take long for Heather to disappear in the store-- at least the place is small.

When she shows up again, though, she's got an armful of various odds and ends-- the largest of which being a somewhat tacky cloth banner in flashy blues and silvers, along with a clipart-esque image of a Drowzee in psychedelic sunglasses and sparkly text reading DUDE, IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY! FAR OUT. It's one of those things manufactured in an attempt to appeal to younger generations by overly-earnest adults who genuinely think that the kiddies will think it's 'cool'-- which Heather has always found and still finds utterly hilarious. Some things are just universal.

"A couple things. Look, I picked up party hats with, like, Dragon-types on them."

She lifts up a set of cheap but colorful party hats that all feature fearsome faces like Charizard and Aerodactyl. ... Well, all except for the single flowery pink one.

"I vote that in the party, we wear all the cool hats and only leave the Princess Cynderquilla hat for Kaito."
darkenedgales: (i solemly swear i'm up to no good)

[personal profile] darkenedgales 2011-06-29 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
He's done some digging in the shop as well, and when he comes back, he's holding a few packs of various Pokemon-shaped balloons (Drifloon and Drifblim being a popular motif, for some reason), but when he sees what Heather's found, he nearly drops them.

"What the hell--"

Never in his life has he seen something this tacky... except maybe for the completely ridiculous outfit Jack bought on that one occasion, but aside from that? Crow wasn't mentally prepared to face this sort of hideousness.

But when the initial phase of complete shock and utter disbelief is over, Heather's words actually reach him and he can't help but grin mischievously.

"I'm sure he'll love it."

By which he means they will.
foolishwren: there is definitely something wrong with me (i wouldn't say i'm QUIRKY but)

[personal profile] foolishwren 2011-06-29 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
Of course they should get it, Aoko. This is what friends do.

Beaming, Heather picks up a basket and dumps her findings into it.

"Or one of those really tacky cards that play, like, obnoxious rock music when you open them..."
