[The benefit of having done this once before is he already knows what to teach her and how to teach it. He has far more experience with the Gear and he remembers the teaching techniques that were most effective. He's already produced a set of notes that he plans to give Claire at the end for her to keep as reference material and has a few practice sheets prepared.

Having agreed to meet outside the local Pokécenter, Mamoru has already settled down on a nearby bench. Shiro the Togepi sits by his feet happily munching a sweet snack. It's warm outside, but early enough that the afternoon heat hasn't hit yet, and besides that still the coolest it's been in nearly two weeks. Honestly nice weather for summertime. He can be glad for that much.]

[Shiro looked up from his snack. Now there was a face he hadn't seen in a very long time. Well, except for that little moment over the Pokégear but did that really count? Before his trainer could say a word in response, Shiro leapt to his feet and ran to Claire with a trill of delight. Her ankle is now on a direct course to being glomped.

Mamoru himself stood to greet her with considerably more calm, returning her smile with one of his own.]

Good morning. It's fine, I don't mind. Although, I must ask you please pardon my Pokémon; he's an excitable fellow. How was your journey?

[Mamoru has come to understand that baby Pokémon are in many ways like human children. They can be sweet, ignorant, easily pleased. They have a strong tendency to be cute. And they can have quite a flair for the spotlight. When the Corsola finishes her dance, Mamoru sinks into a kneel so that he isn't towering over her so much.]

I'm sure that you can. I think that the trip from Cherrygrove City to here is one of the longest ones. To have come straight from New Bark Town, you made very good time.

[Shiro welcomes the attention and chatters incoherently at her for a bit longer before going over to befriend the Corsola.]

[Shiro is a bit confused at first, but as he realizes what she wants he happily joins in. He's going to be so dizzy when this is over.

There's a pause before Mamoru responds to Claire.]

Getting back home quickly... is something I want, too. There are rumors that getting all eight of the badges will allow one to return home. I don't know if they're true or not. But right now, that's the only lead we have.

On the other hand, it may truly be based entirely on the whims of this world. For certain, people have disappeared from here without acquiring any badges at all.
