[To say that John was "looking forward" to his second date with Rose would be a gross understatement. He had barely been able to sleep the night before they left and ended up knocking on Rose's door at five in the morning because he'd finally given up on the notion of sleep entirely. Plus, weren't you supposed to leave early for camping trips?]

[Unsurprisingly, Rose hadn't expected him that early. She'd given him a very bleary look, stepped back into her room to give her clock a bleary look and then asked "...are we leaving 'lready?"]

[Even less surprisingly...she'd fallen right back asleep the minute they had both clambered inside Elliot and gone on their way. But that was okay. Because she had fallen asleep on John's shoulder and he had absolutely no qualms with that at all.]

[And then a few hours later, his excitement wore off and he too fell asleep. Wow, their trip was off to a great start already!]

[Elliot wasn't the fastest pokemon but fortunately, being a ghost, he didn't really need a lot of sleep. So their four day trip ended up taking only two. Once inside the forest, Elliot went back inside his ball for some much needed rest while the two kids shouldered their packs and began walking through the forest, hand-in-hand.]

[Surely this was going to be the best camping-trip-dino-hunt-vacation-date-extravaganza ever! ~~Also possibly the first ever, because seriously, who besides John would come up with something as crazy as this?~~]

Well...Karkat paid him a visit. Soul called me, needing me to come fetch him and calm him down, because I was his moirail and that's what I was needed to do.

[[Sighing she leaned against his shoulder.]] He attempted to strangle him, John. Did a fairly decent job of it, from what I heard. Left a few nasty bruises. That is the kind of need that a moirail is born from.

[[Now to try and lighten the mood.]]

You don't plan on killing anyone, do you?

[If you were expecting to phase him with that story Rose, you'll be disappointed. Vriska confessed to murdering Aradia a few days before this trip. A strangling attempt on Karkat's part is no biggie.]

No, I don't but... [Stiiiiill not getting it.] that doesn't mean I don't need you. And I just want you to be happy so...

...John, I'm not saying you don't. And I am not belittling it either, or meaning for it to come off as unimportant to me. And...

[[John you're making her feel like just the worst kind of person. Turning, she slips her arms around his shoulders and gives him a tight squeeze, just burying her face into his shoulder.]]

...just because it isn't the same kind, doesn't mean it isn't important.

[[Part of her just wants to say 'Yes, you can be my moirail', but she knows that would not only not work, but...it would be like a smack to the face to moirails, likely. She doesn't know what to do about this.

[They'll make a new quadrant. The significant-otherrail quadrant. They're allowed to do that, right?]

[He shakes his head.]

No. I am. I was supposed to be making you feel better. And instead I'm just making things worse. So...I'm sorry. Just forget I said anything, okay? [Here, have a distraction in the form of a tight hug, Rose.]

[[She doesn't say anything to that. But after a few minutes of silence and enjoying hugs, she pulls away and looks up at him with a tiny smile.]]

[Tiny head shake.]

No. What?

[[Just leaning up to kiss his cheek once more.]]

I don't want you in any quadrant. Do you know why?

[Another headshake. No Rose, he has no idea. Especially considering how you asked him to be your matesprit on your first date. He thought you wanted quadrants. So he's just all kinds of confused now.]

[[Okay Rose.

This is the part in the movie where you are supposed to lean in and kiss him. Just a quick one!

It doesn't have to be anything deep or intimate!

...come on, you can do it, it's just a kiss.

[He looks a little stunned at that. Happy, but stunned nonetheless.]

[[She certainly doesn't, and just sighs contently at that. This is much better.]]

And, for the record John? I feel much better now.

[Good. Because he's still holding on pretty strong right now. Hug time is forever apparently.]

John, no one can be all better, but I am pretty close.

Okay...if you're sure. And you're not lying to me to change the subject, right? [SUDDENLY ALL OF HIS SUSPICION.]

Okay, I believe you. [And pulling away a little so that he can look her in the eye.] So just Father and Karkat then? Or is there something else bothering you? May as well get it all out now, you know?

You're welcome. So what do you want to do then? We cou-- [Before he can finish, something outside of the tent catches his attention and his face brightens considerably.] Oh! No wait, I know. Quick, Rose, come on! [Grabbing her hand, he begins tugging her towards the entrance of the tent.]

[[Squeaking, she follows. John, she's in her pajamas! But not complaining, just giggling at his insistence.]]
