the revelation
Who: Kinzo Ushiromiya and Beatrice Castiglioni
Where: Route 33
When: August 23, Evening/Night
Summary: Kinzo finally approaches his Beatrice about what he has learned since arriving here and all of the secrets he has been keeping from her. He can only hope she'll stay with him...
Rating: PG-13/R
Log: [Kinzo sighed. He was, truthfully, extremely nervous. He had no idea how tonight was to end, and in the worst case scenario... Bice would never want to speak to him again. Indeed, regardless of his resolve to fix what the Kinzo of the future had done - what he was TO do, were he to not change, to stop things from happening - the fact remained that they still happened.
Regardless of appearances, this was something that always weighed down on Kinzo's mind. It was what had initially prompted him to becoming a "family" man to the children of his children, children that, truth be told, were just more pieces in the family's plan... initially. Now... Now he didn't know for sure.
But that was another story... This one would be told here, in this clearing, where he had led Bice - away from the group - to speak with her in private.]
... Don't leave me, Bice... I beg of you... Forgive me...
[Kinzo shook his head. Praying now would do him no good. He was no man of religion anywyay. Instead, he turned back to Beatrice.]
... Here should be a fine spot as any.

It really is beautiful around here.
Was there something you wanted to talk about?

[naturally, he means her, but unfortunately, romance will probably be the last thing on their minds tonight...]
That's right. ... In fact, that's exactly right. What's more, I'll understand if you find yourself unable to forgive me for taking so long to approach you about the topic.

[he means the himself of the future, of course, but he knows deep down that they're still technically the same person.]
... You've met them, haven't you? How could you not have, when we're traveling with one...?

...'The Golden Witch'.
It is strange.

[he motions to a log, though not in the mood for it himself, as if offering her a chair]
... You know Lion as well, correct?
no subject
Yes, we get along very well, Natsuhi must be a great mother.
no subject
I believe she is. However...
[he... instead, sits in front of her, to look up at her.]
I'm afraid that it isn't biological.
no subject
[However, she does know if Kinzo is so serious about it, there's more to it than 'Lion was adopted'. That shouldn't matter at all, she hardly even needs to know.]

The reason I ask that is that space isn't the only kind of world that this place chooses from. It can also pick about through time. So...
[he reaches to take her hand - to give her a reassuring squeeze]
As I say this, please believe me that you can choose to see it as only information if you wish, but--

Is that really what you were so worried about?
no subject
[a pause] I'm... glad to hear that, though. Perhaps... [... he stops himself. there is, well... the other information... but how... what...?]
I'm sure you can guess the identities of the two other "yous" then, yes...?

Beatrice the witch is our granddaughter, and then the other Beatrice is our daughter... But they're taken from times, it seems, that they could probably be the same age.

...
[he looks down, quiet. she might miss it if she isn't listening intently.]
Childbirth.
no subject
'Childbirth'? Did she die giving birth to one of them?
[At that she takes both his hands in hers, squeezing to comfort him.]

[he raises himself to look at her. he... he... he has to tell her. he HAS to. he can't lie to her...!! she's Beatrice...!!]
... Uwoooooohhh... Uwooooooohhhhh...!! This sort of thing... This sort of thing wasn't supposed to happen, you know...!? We were supposed to be able to be happy...! Perhaps we were fated to live a secret life - but it should be a happy one!
A happy one!
no subject
but still he...
he will not let her die.]
no subject
Kinzo...it's alright, I'm not sure what you're saying, but please calm down... I love you, and I'm right here, we don't have to be secretive here, we'll be very happy together, and with our family. Whatever happens in the future back home won't matter, as long as we're here.
no subject
[he shakes his head, and after a moment of embracing her, pulls back.]
Beatrice, I want to change what happens. I... What I cause leads to a horrible, horrible tragedy, and if I were to simply stay here, I would only be running away from that - from what is my responsibility to repair. What I must prevent from coming to pass. We... We can take as much time as we need here, but someday... Someday, I must right what I have wronged.
[... a grim pause]
It is... Bice, it's you who I lose to childbirth. I am told it drives me mad, and... truth be told, I can understand why.
[he stares into her eyes - a thousand different things on his face, in his eyes; sadness, guilt, regret... determination, focus, perspective, a foundation... many, many things that, thanks to Lion and the others, perhaps had allowed Kinzo to gain something his original self had never had the opportunity to have.
a chance.]
I will not let you die.
no subject
[How should one react to being told how they end up dying? Even Bice doesn't know right now, but what she worries about most is not her own life being cut short but rather the effect it has on Kinzo.]
Oh, Kinzo...if you know of it, I'm sure something can be done ahead of time. But, even if it still happens, I can meet our daughter and grandchildren here and be given extra time with you. And, if you know what it is that you did wrong, at the least, I'm sure that will be something you can prevent.
I will always be with you either way, hopefully in body, but always in spirit. But didn't I tell you before that Italian women are tough? [a small laugh]

... Uwoooh... Beatrice...
[... And... She is... accepting this... For him? The man who kept this from her for so long, when he should have told her right away? The man who survives all of this madness, after ruining so many lives....!? How... How could she........
No... He knew. It was because it was who she was. He didn't love her for nothing, after all.
Still... Still......]
I... I...
2/3
[now he's... pulling away? standing up?! yelling in that manly man voice!? with dread of the grave starting in the background again!? who keeps playing that during his threads!!]
Hopefully in body...!? We can have our time here...!? This is... This is absolutely unacceptable!! Beatrice, I love you, but I will not - I refuse - to think in such a fashion! Not after all of the sins and atrocities that I must try to atone for!!
We are going to be happy here-- But! BUT!!
[DRAMATIC ARM THRUST TO THE SIDE]
We are going to be happy wherever we go! Be it Japan, Italy, or even America! Be it the past, the future, or even the moon!! Not only that, that happiness is going to last!! We are going to live long together-- I'll move you into the main house and add you to the family register as soon as we return, and the rules and all else be damned! You no longer-- No, you never should have needed to live a hidden life...!!
For you-- For Lion, for our daughter and our granddaughter, and all the other children we might have had...!! For Maria, and for Battler-- For all of this family that I have so horribly cursed by my selfishness!!
[takes that outstretched hand and slams it against his chest, palm open-- hearing her practically accept her own death, even if she hasn't, sort of made something snap in him. in a good way, though.]
Bice... With all my heart, I want the world for you. I would die for you. But to hear you say such things... Such pessimistic things... To hear them come from your lips...
I reject the notion! The idea! The concept-- They're all useless!!
You will survive! We know what is to come, and we will prevent it!! If you are to die, then I would rather die with you than go on without you......... BUT!!! This fate... This accursed fate that has ruined so many lives...
[finally, he puts his hands on her shoulders]
DONE......
[he takes a breath and looks into her eyes-- he suddenly realizes, oh, this might be scaring her, but he's about done anyway.]
Together, we will survive it.
Together, we will overcome it.
Together, we will crush it...!!
[... a pause...]
... Together, we will create something so much happier. For you. For me. For everyone.
Wherever we go, Beatrice... I will make sure it is happy. I will make sure we need not have to stay here for it.
uwooooh
I'm sorry, I didn't realize it was pessimistic, I didn't mean for it to be. I just didn't want you to worry.
You know I would be happy with any sort of life so long as you were in it, but if that's what you plan to do, I know you will. And I'll support you, especially if it would create a better life for our daughter, grandchildren and you. I don't want to make myself happy at the expense of another, so I can't help but hope the children you already have won't be too badly hurt. Though I guess a mother will do anything for her own children!
Yes, we'll be happy together, I won't ever leave you, you can be sure of that. We will create something we can be proud of...a wonderful family...I feel you're the greatest victim of whatever it is that happens, so, you deserve every bit of happiness and I will do everything possible to help you.
We can change it, together.
no subject
[he smiles at her, nodding, pressing his forehead to hers-- he has said what he needs to say. he needn't yell or declare anything more.]
That's right.
Together. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
no subject
Thank you for telling me. I'm sure it was difficult...but I appreciate it.
I assume she doesn't know I'm her mother...? Does she know you're her father, at least?
