Summary: Xion's first training session with Lightning, and Leon decides to check it out.

[ Leon makes his way down the steps, easily balancing a tray of breakfast sandwiches and milk. Plastic wrap had been thrown over the food to guard it against the sand the wind picked up, but when he sees the two figures he's doubly glad he'd been preventive.

He slowly makes his way up, admiring the easy grace with which Lightning dispatches Xion, commenting on specific points of improvement each time the younger girl misses or falls. When Lightning had told him she'd be training Xion, he'd known she was a good teacher; now he has the opportunity to see it first-hand. ]

[ They won't.

Leon exhales and gathers his composure again, arms crossing over his chest. ]

Xion, whoever told you about that stuff...they should have told you that it isn't polite to ask about. In private, maybe, with another woman, but not out here. All right?

[ God, he's still blushing, no matter how serious he looks. HE IS HOISTING THIS ONE ON LIGHT AT THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY. ]

[ ALL HE SAID WAS THAT THE SUBJECT WOULD MAKE PEOPLE UNEASY. ]

But... It's just you two, and we're the only ones around.

[ They're still near the "home," and it was early enough that hardly anyone is traipsing about the beach at this moment. ]

I was just wondering... since you two seemed very close. [ Bows head. ] I'm sorry.

[Uneasy is one way of putting it and Lightning is certainly on edge now, shaking her head and attempting to not huff out a sigh. This is something she--LEON DON'T YOU DARE HOIST ALL THIS OFF ON HER, DAMMIT.]

Just because two people are close doesn't mean they've slept with each other. It's not as simple as that, and asking can make things awkward.

[And yet, her tone is rather clinical at the moment; she's just...trying to keep from choking on her words again.]

[ Lightning's words and tense expression worry him; are things awkward now???

His face flickers to Xion, obviously annoyed. He enjoys her friendship, of course, but so help him, if she's fucked up his chances there will be Words. ]

It's also not your business, Xion. It's something private, between two people, and you shouldn't pry. [ A pause, and he exhales. ] ...but it's all right. [ He thinks. He hopes. ] Apology accepted.

[ She merely nods, though now she feels guilty. Okay, maybe there really was harm in asking.

Well, so much for that.

Even if Leon says the apology is accepted, she doesn't know what to do or say anything further without possibly making more damage. She's gone quiet. ]

[Awkward? Just around Xion, because, hey, that came out of freaking nowhere and now Lightning has to remember her old classes and urgh. URGH. Someone's getting flipped, even as Lightning nods her own acceptance of the apology.]

Who told you about that, anyway? You said it was a he.

[ He doesn't say anything, but he also wants an answer to that question. Outwardly? His expression is calm. Inwardly? He's still flustered.

His eyes stray to Xion's face, expectant. ]

[ She's still looking at the ground. ]

He was only trying to help me understand better...

[At that, Lightning reaches over and puts a hand on Xion's shoulder to get her attention, trying to make the girl look up at her.]

I just need his name so I can talk to him about this. I won't hurt him.

[A glance out of the corner of her eye at Leon as she says that; they will talk with whoever this is, not just Leon, but actually hurting him? ...maybe not. Hard to say.]

[ Leon has to snort a bit at that, and he returns Light's glance. ]

It's a promise, Xion. Nothing bad is going to happen.

[ Nothing physical, at least. ]

[ She's still a bit skeptical, mostly because, well... their reactions earlier seemed to speak otherwise. And even if they won't hurt him or anything, she didn't want to put Cecil through more trouble than he already did.

Still, they were pretty insistent... And she couldn't really lie to them, either... ] Cecil.

[Cecil. On the one hand, she kinda knows the guy and knows he can take a hit so she's definitely considering rescinding that "not going to hurt him" bit now. On the other...how in the world was it Cecil that somehow gave Xion the talk!? A lot must have happened in those seventeen years since.

With that info, however, Lightning has to take a moment to keep her temper under control, sighing explosively before she can finally speak again. She will wring Cecil's neck, alright.]

Why did he tell you? Did you ask him or did something happen that he needed to explain?

[ All thoughts of giving Cecil a piece of his mind utterly flies out of his head at Lightning's words. He blinks, gaze turning contemplatively towards Xion. Cecil would never do something inappropriate--is there a boy in Xion's life?

Sudden and inexplicable rising panic. ]

[ Lightning's sigh draws any attention Xion might have had for Leon to focus solely on her for the moment. Unbeknownst to Leon's inner plight, Xion tilts her head slightly, trying to remember how that conversation really turned out. Maybe being totally honest here will at least lessen some things?

... She could only hope. ]

We were talking about families, about "husbands and wives." And spouses. I said it sounded nice to have one of those someday... Then I told him I didn't know where children actually came from when he said my mind will change after a several years and I'd want to have them with a husband or wife. ... or in my case, husband?

[ ... Seriously. She is so confused. ]

[It would lessen Lightning's confusion, at least. Logically, she can kind of understand how things got to that point from talking about families, but...that doesn't make it any less "hnnngghh" worthy, even for all her outward calm. Cecil is going to regret this.

But first, an explanation is in order. Only....how does she explain this and have it make some Etro-be-damned sense!?]

...Probably a husband, yeah. But that shouldn't happen for another couple decades, at least. You're too young to be even considering marriage or kids right now.

[Hell, she's still a kid herself! ...Not that Serah was much older when Lightning had to give her the talk. ...yeah, she'll just...need to remember that, so Leon better do something right now.]

[ 'Another couple decades' sounds wonderful to Leon, actually. And he is incredibly relieved to hear she isn't into boys. ]

Definitely. [ He crosses his arms over his chest. ] You're way too young. You can think about that stuff later. [ She's fifteen, Leon. Calm your nonexistent tits. ]

But when's "later"? I mean, it sounds like I don't have to have them, but... It'd be nice.

[ Ah, but not!fifteen, still. Come to think of it... ]

Maybe it won't happen. Maybe it'd be better that way.

Not everyone has to have kids, Xion. There's other ways to have a family besides have kids of your own. And later is....[A pause; when is later, really? When she's a grownup? when she's got her life in order? all of the above? hard to say for sure...] Later is when you're ready and sure that's what you want. It'll only cause problems if you rush into this.

[Though maybe it is better if nothing happens, if only so Leon's blood ipressure stops skyrocketing.]

[ When Xion mentions that, his face softens. He's more well-versed than Lightning, in any case, on Xion's hangups. He moves to settle a hand on the younger girl's shoulder. ]

Exactly. You deserve a family and...everything else, if that's what you want. Just not right now.

[ IT'S JUST NOT SOMETHING LEON WANTS TO KNOW ABOUT, NECESSARILY. ]

[ She looks up at the both of them when Leon places a hand on her shoulder. Still, she pretty unsure now about having kids, letting alone having that special someone - husband? - when she's older. She honestly doubts that'll happen, and only because she's content with best friends.

And, well. Attraction and affection are a whole other can of worms that can be opened for another time. ]

Okay. [ She slowly takes a bite out of the rest her nearly-forgotten sandwich. Chew chew chew. Then another question drifts in her head... But. ] Um...?

[Lightning can agree with all of Leon's words, and she nods. At least that's done. Lightning will also be returning to her own sandwich now, but the moment Xion speaks up again, her stomach clenches and she has to put it back down. Etro help them all, what now?]

What is it?

[ ...Uh oh. Just when he thought it was safe to take a sip from Lightning's glass of milk. Putting that down, and bracing for impact.

[ ... on second thought, let's not make the morning any weirder than it already is. ]

Never-mind-it's-nothing-really. [ It's said really quickly and Xion takes a large bite out of her sandwich at the same time, and tries to swallow... and ends ups choking. ]

[Nothing, really? Nothing wouldn't have Xion scrambling to fill her her mouth and end with her choking, which has Lightning quickly moving forward to not-so-gently pound the girl's back in an attempt to free her airways.]

Easy, easy. Look up and breathe.

Yeah, let's...just have breakfast.

[ Please? He's having some milk now, you can't stop him.

As Xion starts choking, worry flares up, but Lightning's more than capable of handling it. ]
