✘ how did i get this far from what i held dear
Who: Zack Fair, OPEN
Where: Route 31
When: Night. Progressing into laaaaaaate night.
Summary: Zack has a promise to keep. And some training will take his mind of that strange feeling of impending doom from the sudden influx of ShinRa employees.
Rating: PGish. Depends on who joins in.
Log:
Zack Fair would have been lost without Angela.
Seriously, the dragon had a knack for sniffing out exactly what he was looking for, and her ability to Paralyze whatever she found made catching pokemon that much easier. The usually snippy, unimpressable dratini's mood always made a complete turn-around on the battlefield. It was the best way for the two of them to bond, and sometimes... it seemed like the only situation in which Angela looked upon her trainer with admiration and respect.
Four hours of rugged, damp, battle-riddled hunting had produced the results of not two -- not three -- but four different Poliwags.
And now he had all four of them lined up in a row in front of himself and his dragon... and Angela was inspecting each of them with contempt. Ash only needed two, but it was damn near impossible to tell which were which gender, which was the whole point of catching the stupid-looking things in the first place.
"Alright, kiddo. How goes the inspection?" The SOLDIER sat near Angela and stroked the side of one of her fins.
"Think these guys can make the cut?"
This hunting expedition had yielded pretty good results.
... The downside, however, was that he only had one Pokeball left.

He still wouldn't turn to face her. Or her spider. Stubborn Zack was just as stubborn as could be.
Buy/catch/hatch one today~ /shot
"She has, though. Admittedly not much, but she actually listened the other day." Clearly, a big achievement. She taps her chin. "Though I do wonder if it had anything to do with losing..."
no subject
"Some pokemon do just hate losing." He tapped his foot. Which was itching to stomp.
While this unusual exchange was taking place, Angela was in her usual position, coiled into a pile, keeping the four wrestling and squealing Poliwags in line, eyes at half-mast. Medial, non-violent tasks like these weren't so bad when she was put in charge, after all.

Angela may get a surprise visitor, because where
mommytrainer goes, Larvitar usually follows. He's too damn shy to waltz up and pester, but he is sitting and watching.no subject
"I don't think it's supposed to work that way, Nel." Stare.
"... The trainer is supposed to guide the pokemon." Stare. "Not the other way around... You two are partners." Stare. "Not ... I don't know. Co-workers."
no subject
"...But aren't co-workers also partners?" That went right over Nel's head, there. "She enjoys fighting, and I do not. Trying to guide her leads to nothing."
no subject
Trembling with barely contained rage, he balled his hands into fists and set his jaw stubbornly.
"I don't think fighting and battling are quite the same. You don't ... bond with co-workers. They're just people you're stuck with. If you see your bug as just somebody you're stuck with, you'll never be on the same page."
no subject
"...True." She folds her hands and looks away for a moment. "I really am no good at this, huh."
no subject
"I don't think there's anything wrong with you, Nel. But I think your pokemon sucks."
1/2, oh geez
Noticeably, Larvitar sees what's going on, apparently spots something, and is promptly going to hide behind a rock.
2/2
"A-Ah!" And apparently it makes Nelliel dizzy when something pounces off her scalp. Don't mind her trying to re-orientate herself, here.
sighhhhhh /)_(\
Don't think Zack hadn't expected some kind of reaction to his very biting insult to Spinarak, and he half grabbed, half smacked the thing in midair with an angry shout.
"Get back!!"
... A few yards away, a previously uninterested Angela's ears perk and she raises her head, staring at the crisis unfolding in alarm. HEY. That spider wasn't allowed to do that to her
attendanttrainer!Whining in agitation, she uncoiled her body and left the Poliwag to play amongst themselves.
These two... -_- They need a time out or something
In the other corner of the ring, Nelliel is trying to make her vision stop swimming. Normally she would have a bone helmet separating her already muddled head from any surprise shocks. All she has in Johto is a beanie. It isn't major, but she won't be focusing for another minuet, at least.
Larvitar, having no intention of joining in the melee, decides to be a good boy and keep an eye on the blue swirly things while the
wormflying snake goes off to annoy the spider.yup. B[
Angela, at that point, was getting more than a little aggravated at the unsolicited harassment that (in her perception) was being directed unjustly at her trainer.
The dragon took a moment to aim carefully before slithering purposefully in a perfectly timed circle, summoning a soft, then suddenly violent Twister to tear across the grassy ground toward the Spinarak.
Meanwhile, the herd of Poliwag greeted their new babysitter happily, the most affectionate bumping her soft, spiral stomach against his, wanting to play.
/shoves in corner?
Larvitar takes a moment to look rather confused, but quickly pats the little Poliwag on the head. Seems to be his way of asking what game, or something.
/nose in corner :c
... While, of course, Zack continued to flail wildly. When the Spinarak went flying, the string that held his hand jerked. Which made his arm jerk around.
/puts up timeout sign
abusingteaching her trainerto be a man./curls up, sulkssss
Which roughly translated to, 'you're next'.
.../hairruffle >.> <.< >.>
/wibbleface? ;^;
Not missing a beat, Angela snarled and inhaled deeply -- taking her time, it seemed -- and spewed another Dragon Rage, this time aiming directly for Spinarak, closing in on the offender.
Zack, now free but with a slightly singed glove, watched his Dratini in confusion. As much as he'd like to see the spider get pounded by his pokemon, it just... didn't seem right to have it carry on without the consent of Nel.
"Nelliel... I can call her off if you don't want to battle."
/offers oreo
And it becomes apparent that Nel has managed to get her head back on straight, because she's staring at the scene in a complete loss. However, she has noticed something... "I... do not think she can battle."
Evidently, level five Spinaraks don't like attacks that always deal forty damage, no sir-ee.
Re: /offers oreo
"But... I don't think Dratini would be a good match for her. One of them might be, though, if you're interested."
He jabbed a thumb over his shoulder, gesturing to the squirming pile of luv that was the Poliwag cluster.
no subject
Nel looks wary, her strong dislike of fighting repressing her curiosity. "Are you sure...?"
