How do we shot dating
Who: Isaac McDougal (
glaciates) and Solf J. Kimblee (
explosivecombat)
Where: Route 34
When: April 21, evening
Summary: Kimblee and Isaac attempt this "dating" thing.
Rating: PG to PG-13
Log:
[April 13. Eight days ago. Maybe it was naive of him (or far too sentimental), but he wouldn't be forgetting that date any time soon. That was the day he accidentally texted the entire network, asking for advice in a relationship. It was supposed to be private to Hughes, but... Well, he can't really complain. Things worked out.]
[...He's dating Solf J. Kimblee. He's not sure what to do with this knowledge. Other than smile stupidly when he's certain people aren't looking.]
[He's actually been in a much better mood for the past week. Normally he spends his time avoiding people and Goldenrod City entirely. That hasn't changed much; he only enters the city occasionally, usually in search of Kimblee. He's relaxing a bit more and he's not quite as worried about being attacked.]
[Isaac is finally getting used to being in Johto. Things are finally settling in. He really couldn't be happier.]
[That said, going on an actual date with Kimblee isn't something he'd actually considered. Dating in general isn't something Isaac is very comfortable with - but then again, what is he comfortable with?Other than reassuring everyone that he's a horrible person, obviously. So when he told Kimblee he was interested in a relationship... well, he hadn't thought it out this far in advance. Kimblee was supposed to turn him down. This wasn't supposed to happen.]
[Not like he's complaining or anything.]
[Isaac is much more comfortable outside of Goldenrod City, and he's currently standing on the shore of the river alongside Route 34. He spends the majority of his time around water - it's a force of habit by now. He can't use his alchemy, but he feels much safer when he does have a source of water nearby. He's not thinking about that, though; he's more focused on the fact that he has no idea what to do on a date with Kimblee. He normally doesn't have any idea what to do on dates but this is different. It's... well, it's a date with a man. This wasn't something that happened very often back home. Openly gay men weren't very common in 1915, after all.]
[Cornelius, Isaac's Surskit, is currently perched on his shoulder, keeping an eye out for danger - or more likely, Kimblee. Isaac's a bit too lost in his own thoughts to notice anyone anyway.]
[Oh, and if you're wondering, Kimblee, this was totally your idea. You did suggest it, after all! ...You totally know this is a date, right? Of course you do.]

Yeah, well. It means a lot.
[YOU KNOW WHAT. He's. just going to awkward at you for a little bit before... kind of hugging you? It's a one-armed hug obviously, since he's not keen on breaking that grip on your hand any time soon. But he's still just going to awkward all over the place now, okay?]
[...And you know, be bright red. Forever. orz]

It's one of those things that Kimblee probably should have seen coming, and even if he didn't, he probably should have been relieved by the fact that Isaac is doing something besides desperately herping at him. Somehow, however, he finds himself completely unsure of what to do when Isaac actually moves to hug him - the only person who really does things like this with him here is Archer. He's quick to recognize what's happening, however, and he relaxes almost immediately, allowing Isaac to pull him into the hug and slipping his free hand down from Isaac's arm, wrapping it lightly around his waist instead.
...it's about then that it occurs to him how very tall Isaac is; it's strange to be in this sort of position to begin with, much less with someone physically larger than he is in such an obvious way. It's not...irksome or anything, just odd.]
no subject
[The height difference isn't as drastic as it usually is - Isaac tends to date women on the short side to begin with. Kimblee had been shorter in Ishval (was it a different version? the eyes were blue, not yellow...) but still there's still a good half a foot of difference. Isaac doesn't mind. This is a lot easier than he thought it would be.]
[...Don't mind him while he's just overwhelmed with feels, okay.]
no subject
However, the longer this goes on, the more generally awkward it starts to get; he can't exactly say why, but something about this feels...strange to him. Not dangerous, but unfamiliar.]
...is everything all right, Isaac?
no subject
...Yeah, of course it is.
[...Remember how he's the most genuine thing? Yeah. He sounds really pleased and quite content. He's kind of like Archer - they could both hug on you forever and never get bored of it.]
[Have fun with that.]
no subject
[Well, he'll just sort of be settling against your shoulder there, then; again, this isn't unwelcome, and if anything it's...kind of comfortable? Sort of? Once he gets used to the height difference, anyway.
..........
...you aren't letting go ever, are you]
no subject
[Seriously, he could just hug you like this forever! This is really all he needs for a date to be amazing so uh. He's very easy to please, needless to say.]
[Hopefully you don't try to escape any time soon. :|]
no subject
...okay brb squirming a bit
mmmmnnnnnnnnnnngh
let go]
no subject
[But he'll let go quickly enough and draw back a bit! ...Cue playing with his ponytail and being the most flustered thing ever. He doesn't apologize or anything, but it should be obvious that he's considering it. Not that he did anything wrong, but he made things awkward...]
no subject
Regardless, once Isaac has let go of him Kimblee seems to relax immediately; he has no problem with the closeness, he just isn't terribly fond of being held for long periods of time in a way that ensures he can't get away easily if he wants to. He sets about proving this almost immediately, tightening his grip on Isaac's hand a bit while he steps a bit closer, reaching up to toy with that one ridiculous lock of hair Isaac has going on in the front, smirking as he does so.]
All right, Isaac...? You seem a bit flustered.
no subject
Y-yeah. I'm fine. Of course I am. Why wouldn't I be?
[That's a bit defensive, but it's due to being caught off-guard than irritation. He wasn't expecting Kimblee to start playing with his hair, at any rate. He'll just be staring upwards and herping. Forever.]
[It's not that he doesn't like it - quite the opposite. He's very pleased with it. That's the problem. He's not sure what to do with the intimate gesture here, other than herp at them and kind of freak out. No big deal. Really.]
no subject
Kimblee pulls his hand away at the sudden...mild mental blip that Isaac seems to be having; he doesn't seem displeased about it, and his expression remains calm, but there's a definite inquisitive look in his eyes.]
You're sure?
no subject
Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. I just wasn't expecting that, that's all.
[He'll tighten his grip on Kimblee's hand again, then. It's alright. Really.]
no subject
However, Kimblee doesn't seem displeased by that - really, he takes it as an invitation to start with the hairplaying again. You have the most ridiculous forelock here, good sir.]
Well, you should likely get used to it. Your hair really does look so much better long.
no subject
[Isaac rolls his eyes at that, but he doesn't try to stop Kimblee from playing with his hair. It's kind of the most energetic forelock in the world. It's randomly curly while the rest of his hair... isn't. So uh. Have fun with that, Kimblee?]
Yeah, well. Thanks. I like it longer. It wasn't this long before Ishval, but it wasn't... that short obviously.
[Make any reference to looking like a shaved cat...]
no subject
no subject
Yeah well. I never liked my hair short. I mean, it's not exactly great to keep it this long...
[How he managed to actually fight with his hair that long is still a mystery. Oh well.]
no subject
Why did you, then? It must have made fighting horribly inconvenient, to say nothing of the fact that it's an identifying feature.
no subject
[Headtilt? He obviously doesn't headtilt quite enough to pull that strand out of your hand there, but he's quite confused by the question. Of course it would make more sense to cut it, but it never even occurred to him. He's not sure why.]
I don't know. It never bothered me enough to do anything about it.
no subject
Well! "I like it" is as good a reason as any; after all, my hair isn't exactly convenient, either.
no subject
[Isaac smiles at that - Kimblee's hair has always looked nice! He actually likes the little hairtenna going on here - they're a lot longer than they were back in Ishval!]
I've always liked your hairstyle.
[...Not that he realizes that he's copied it or anything...]
no subject
Ah, thank you - although I admit that it's foregoing practicality for aesthetics. When it's cut short, it looks painfully stupid; I've had it long since I was a teenager.
no subject
[Though to be fair, he's pretty sure Kimblee could rock any kind of haircut...]
no subject
It is, yes. I do imagine it would be more convenient for you, however, given how close you have to be to others for your alchemy to work in certain circumstances - I'm assuming that was the logic behind the...ah, cropping in Ishval?
[And he's back to actively playing with that weird forelock again as he speaks; no, really, this is mesmerizing...]
no subject
Yeah, it would be easier. And everyone who went through basic had their hair cropped off - or did you manage to get out of that?
[His tone is light; he's obviously teasing.]
I wasn't fond of it, obviously. I'm used to having my hair longer so it was... kind of uncomfortable, really. It would probably make more sense to chop it all off but... well, I've gotten used to fighting with it long.
[A shrug! He'll let you keep playing with that strand of hair it's... kind of nice, okay.]
