There is a filthy pun about riding snakes in here
Who: Emmy Altava (
snapandscoot) and Solf. J. Kimblee (
explosivecombat) YES, AGAIN....
Where: En-route to Olivine City!
When: Pretty much right now, I believe!
Summary: Emmy and Kimblee, on their way to meet Lightning, have some fun riding his Steelix.
Rating: PG at most!
Log:
Emmy hadn't realised Kimblee had never been to Olivine City.
Since he'd been in Johto longer than her, she naturally just assumed it was somewhere he'd been. She should have realised; after all, he didn't have the badge. Sighing, she returned Fearo the Fearow to his Pokeball, running a hand through her hair.
This complicated things somewhat, as they were now forced to travel to Olivine on foot, which could take up to a week rather than the number of hours the distance could be achieved should they be airborne. She was already furiously nervous about this meeting with Lightning, and the fact that she may have to call to postpone it didn't fill her with a sense of security. The girl was probably already annoyed enough with her as-is.
"So what do you want to do, Mr Kimblee?"

Kimblee had actually managed to not get thrown horribly by Taylor; the Flygon had always been incredibly temperamental toward him and so that had been a valid concern, but she had been surprisingly much more amicable toward contact with her trainer when it involved winging through the air at ridiculous speeds. And Kimblee...well. He couldn't say he disapproved of flight either, really; given that he was from Amestris, where steam trains were the primary means of large-scale transportation, the idea of actual flight was something that was still a bit beyond him as a possibility.
He had flown once before this, as there had been some sort of vehicle - heli...copter...? he thinks that's what it was called - that had transported Archer, Gorthan and himself between Mahogany Town and Goldenrod City once; that flight had pretty much consisted of Archer clinging to him for dear life - both through abject terror and trying to pull Kimblee back into his seat, as Kimblee had decided as soon as they started moving that he would much rather be leaning out the cabin door with one leg down on the boarding step, taking in their surroundings properly and risking falling off of the damn aircraft in the process.
It had been a rather good flight, all things considered.
However, it seemed the Pokémon had one of those arbitrary restrictions put on them, much like those ridiculous ledges - it couldn't take him anywhere it had never been. Of course, since he had never been to Olivine City, Taylor and Lexi hadn't been there, either, even just within the box in the PC.
And as soon as this became apparent and landing became necessary, Kimblee had gotten...rather creative with his language under his breath; he had never really been one for swearing, but really, if one's wording is good enough, one really doesn't need to...either way, he was immediately grateful that Emmy likely hadn't heard what had left him verbatim.
He was a bit displeased, to say the least.
He recalled Taylor quickly; he'd been in a hell of a mood even before this setback, due to time constraints imposed on him by the very organization he was currently planning to supposedly "take down".
"Postponing this isn't an option, Miss Altava." His voice was clipped, irritable; he usually wasn't this snappish with Emmy and he knew it, and somewhere in the back of his mind he knew he should apologize. However, he also wasn't in the mood to pretend to be sorry, either; he was incredibly keyed-up, it would be ridiculously insincere even by his standards. The result wouldn't justify the attempt; either way, he did make sure that his tone was decidedly gentler when he continued. "I suppose there's not much we can do, outside of try to minimize the time we spend travelling. Several days can be shaved off of the time required to take the routes if we use Pokémon as transportation; do you have anything with you?"

Emmy had no idea why Kimblee was being so snappish towards her. It wasn't her fault they couldn't fly to Olivine ! Looking out over the path leading out of Ecruteak, she ran her mind over the the pokemon she had with her.
"I have Bug, but he's not the quickest and tires easily if we have to travel a long distance."
This was such a mess. If she was in a better mood, Emmy would simply consider this to be one big puzzle. But it wasn't a puzzle, was it? It was a problem.
Lately, issues and setbacks had been tipping more towards 'problems' than 'puzzles'. It depressed her. She wasn't usually like this. Running both hands through her hair this time, she turned back toward Kimblee, frowning.
"And my bike is in for repairs in Goldenrod. I damaged it on the path to the Safari Zone. So I don't know, Mr Kimblee. Do you have any ideas?"

Kimblee closed his eyes for a moment, inhaling deeply and taking a moment to calm himself, to think. What Miss Altava had said would normally have been problematic, but the things Kimblee trained trended toward either small and adorable or huge and terrifying; most of his high-leveled things were of the "huge and terrifying" persuasion, and those were what he was carrying on him in order to meet Lightning.
He relaxed a bit, folding his arms across his chest as his eyes slid open again; the burns to his right hand were healing rather well, and he had no doubt he could maintain some sort of grip with it - at least well enough to keep from falling off anything he was deciding to use as a noble steed here.
"Well, you know I have Carlisle; he's handled both Archer and myself before, so I have no doubt that he would be able to handle you." He paused for a moment, his gaze darting toward the route they had yet to properly start down; if they really wanted to minimize time, it would make more sense to take more ground in one go, for as long as possible, then switch Pokémon for the shorter stretch. He did have two with him that he didn't doubt could handle both himself and Miss Altava with absolutely no problem...
"I think I have a better idea." Oh, he was smirking now, any agitation from earlier forgotten for the moment. "Tell me, Miss Altava, do you recall those tremendous rock-snakes from Union Cave? I caught one quite a while back; I find their evolved forms to be rather useful for covering as much ground as possible.
Interested?"

So when he mentioned the rock-snakes....
"...you have one of those, Mr Kimblee?"
....oh, this could be interesting. Smiling, Emmy sidled up to him, smiling playfully.
"I suppose I might be! Let's have a look~"

...well, not terror, exactly, as the Steelix was exuding some rather strong vibes of being perfectly chill; she's kind of a zensnake. If anything, that was a large part of the reason Kimblee was comfortable with her; this fact was fairly obvious, given the way that he was resting his hand lightly against her side once she was released from the ball.
"Her name is Nagara; she's rather obedient, takes orders well. I think she'll save us a good amount of time."
no subject
"It...it's so big...!!"
'Big' isn't quite the word for the Pokemon standing (sitting? standing? lying? How does one explain what this thing is doing?) in front of her; massive is more like it. Humongous! Ginormous!
"Is this really your Pokemon, Mr Kimblee?!"
Emmy scrambles over to Kimblee and the Steelix, gingerly moving a hand towards it. Does she really get to ride it? How does she even get up onto it? Well, either way...
.....it's going to be magnificent.
"I...can I touch it?"
oh goddamn it, okay, I lost - twelve, I AM TWELVE
...let's just say the innuendo isn't lost on him. Ladies and gentlemen, the classiest man in Amestris.
"Go ahead."
WE'RE BOTH 12, LET'S BE REAL HERE
"So you ride this, Mr Kimblee? Is it hard? How fast does it go?"
Emmy is only aware of one thing at the moment; she needs to get herself one of these.
no subject
"Why don't you see for yourself?"
He gestures toward Nagara, who lowers her head obediently; Kimblee vaults up easily - he's been able to build up a good amount of his fighting strength again, but whether he's in peak condition or not, stupidly high jumps have always been things he can do - before offering his hand to Emmy, more as a courtesy than anything else.
"Shall we?"
no subject
"We shall! I'll follow your lead, Mr Kimblee~!"
no subject
He'll let Emmy position herself before signaling to Nagara to actually lift her head off the ground and get moving; let's do this thing, then.

"How wonderful, Mr Kimblee! I've never...well, I've never had an experience like this!"
Her camera where is her camera, let her get that out and take some photos because this is so exhilarating!
"You certainly know how to show a girl a good time!"
