The Magnet Train is expensive, but it wasn't really like Maes ever did anything with the money Team Rocket paid him. He'd been using most of it to house Tot and Ouka, but now that those girls are gone...

He's just arrived in Saffron. After nonstop walking and biking from Cerulean, he really should take a rest and get on the train the next morning, but there's one set to leave in a few hours, and he could always sleep on the train.

Maes makes his way toward the train station; his steps are slowing down now, but he's still got some time to spare. As he turns the corner, his thoughts of should I stop by a store to buy some food? are suddenly cut short as he nearly crashes into someone.

"Oh! Sorry ab--" He stops. And attempts to not look too horrified. Or disgusted. He manages... just barely.

Envy's been in an unpleasant mood ever since that mugging. He's also not been feeling like sleeping at regular hours a whole lot, but that's less to do with the attack and more to do with his regular night-owlishness. He's been eager to get out of Saffron, honestly, but while they're still here he figures he might as well explore.

He's not entirely sure how he wound up near the train station, he must have taken a wrong turn somewhere. But when he turns around to head back the other way, of course there's someone almost running into him, not looking where they're going (never mind that he wasn't either).

He snaps, "Hey, watch it--"

Oh wait a second, it's you. Envy attempts to rein back some of that temper and put on an apologetic expression, but it's not looking terribly genuine right now. And he notices the odd expression on Hughes' face, too...

"Sorry, didn't see you there. I didn't know you were in this city."

"Hnng..." He can't help but look not happy, but quickly makes an attempt to wipe the disgruntled look off of his face. He ends up with something along the lines of a very neutral lineface. It's better than looking disgruntled...

... It was a lot easier pretending to be okay with Envy when they were conversing over a tiny screen. Or when he was attacking from behind and putting the guy to sleep...

"I've just arrived, actually. Was hoping to catch the train back to Goldenrod."

Envy's definitely noticing that something's up with Hughes now. He's good at reading faces, especially when he can see them in person. It's possible that Hughes is just tired, yes. But it's also possible that it's something else. Maybe even something trivial, or just a bad mood, but... Had someone told Hughes about him, or had he figured something out? Envy hadn't ever given out much information on "Victor's" life to anyone, less contradictions to keep track of that way, but he hadn't kept his real name secret from the grand majority of Johto in a long time. But he's not going to jump to that assumption, not yet. It could be any one of a million other things.

"Got friends there waiting on you?" He gives a half laugh. "You can't have shown your pictures to everyone in this city already."

He doesn't think Hughes would recognize it as the jab that it is. After all there's nothing about his expression pointing to it being more than innocent, mild teasing, and he's feeling mean.

From anyone else, that comment would have gotten a smile; Maes is aware of just how much he shoves his family's picture in people's faces, after all.

But from Envy... it takes all his effort not to punch the guy in the face. Maes is generally a pretty laid-back guy; it takes a whole lot to get him riled up even a little bit. But just remembering... what Envy did. And how he'd done it...

He grits his teeth. And tries his best to remain neutral. He manages to not look upset just yet, but he's definitely not smiling the least bit. And it's obvious that he's tensing up.

"Yes, I've got someone waiting for me back in Johto."

Envy gives Hughes a curious look, raising an eyebrow. Even if Hughes doesn't look upset, it's becoming increasingly clear that something is probably up.

"Something wrong?"

"Been... tired." He stuffs a hand in his pocket and grips tightly onto a Pokeball. There won't be hesitation this time, should Envy decide to attack. He knows all the tricks...

... Even if they don't work here in Johto. Even still...

"With everything that's happened lately..." he trails off.
