Who: Twilight Sparkle

Where: Outside of the Violet City Pokemon Center.
When: Saturday, June 23rd, afternoon.
Summary: Hikari challenged Twilight to a battle a while back. Now it's time to cash in on that.
Rating: PG for cartoonish violence.

Well, here they were. The right day, the right time. Now all she had to do was wait.

Twilight couldn't help but feel a bit of anticipation. This would be the first time she'd taken on another person who'd come from outside of Johto in a Pokemon battle. She wondered how tough Hikari would be. The other girl had some time on her, some very good Pokemon, and one more slot in her party filled than she did.

Still, she was very confident in her team. Patting Tesla the Magneton, who she'd chosen to lead with (and getting some of her hair to float up as a result), Twilight gave her Pokemon a last-second before battle reassurance.

"Don't worry. No matter how this turns out, I'll be proud of you."

Hikari smiled, walking over and outside of the pokémon center, her Umbreon walking behind her. He was rather excited, because Hikari was actually going to do a pokémon battle! He was going to get to fight again! This was going to be great!

Hikari waved to Twilight as she saw her. "Hi Twilight. Glad you could make it!"

Her Charmeleon was also out, but he looked rather bored by the whole concept of doing a battle, just immediately going to lay on his stomach and let out a yawn.

Twilight's attention went straight to the two Pokemon Hikari had out. The Umbreon could be tough, depending on level, though she had at least one Pokemon who would be perfect against it. The Charmeleon, though... well, unless it got a lot more into things when the battle started, Twilight wasn't particularly worried.

"I wouldn't have left you hanging." She said, grinning at Hikari. "Are you ready?"

Tesla floated over, twirling around the other two and making strange mechanical noises.

Hikari smiled. "Yeah, I'm ready if you are!"

She looked down at her two pokémon for a moment, before smiling a bit more. "Okay Charmeleon, you can start first."

Charmeleon just looked over at Hikari like she was crazy, before sighing and getting ready to battle.

Hikari pouted. "Oh come on, don't be like that. You can sleep all you want later, okay?"

Charmeleon thought this over for a moment, before nodding and getting ready for the battle to start.

"Charmeleon, huh? Alright, Tesla, I know you're at a disadvantage, but I believe you can win this! Are you ready?"

The Magneton beeped at her, and hovered out in front of her.

"That's it! Alright, Hikari. We start in three... two... one! Supersonic!"

And the battle had begun, with Magneton blaring a high-pitched noise to try to confuse the lazy fire-type.

Hikari nodded, smiling a bit... before she heard Twilight's order. "Charmeleon, dodge it!"

Charmeleon would've done it, but being a lazy bum made that a bit difficult, and he was definitely blasted with the loud waves.

Hikari frowned. "Use Ember on it!"

Charmeleon did use the attack... and decided to fire at a nearby tree instead. Thankfully he missed it and the tree and grass didn't catch on fire.

Twilight grinned. This was starting out perfectly.

"Great job, Tesla, now take advantage of its confusion and hit it with a Thunder Ball!"

The Magneton summoned up three separate charges of energy from each of its sides, charged them together in the middle, and hurled a giant orb of pure electricity at the flailing Charmeleon.

"Charmeloen! Snap out of it!" Hikari shouted, looking over at the dazed pokémon as the Magneton shot that ball of lightning over at it.

Charmeloen just decided to flop onto the ground... which let the ball of electricity fly right over his head. He did manage to make it to his feet, shaking his head a bit before turning back towards the Magneton.

... If he was still confused or not, Hikari really couldn't tell. But right now they needed to attack. "Charmeleon! Get close and use Fire Fang!"

Charmeleon let out a small growl, before he charged forward, his fire gathering around his mouth as he opened it to try to bite Magneton.

Dangit, of all the ironic twists for this battle to take, the Charmeleon actually dodging her attack due to its own confusion was probably the most obnoxious she could think of.

"Don't give it the chance, Tesla!" She ordered, determined not to let the attack connect if she could help it. "Paralyze it with Thunder Wave!"

At the range Charmeleon had closed into, there was no way to miss. The Thunder Wave got off right when Charmeleon was about to bite down... but this also meant that Tesla took the full brunt of the attack. It let out a loud mechanical cry, but it didn't look like it was ready to go down just yet.

Darn! Stupid stupid stupid. Hikari should've had Charmeleon use Ember instead. Now he was stuck and paralyzed, even if he had managed to actually hit with his attack.

"Charmeleon, use Ember!" she shouted. Hopefully her pokémon would be able to move and do the attack.

Charmeleon actually did manage to get off a few bursts of flame from his mouth, but now where near the level of the attack usually did. Hopefully it'd be enough.

"Thunder Ball!"

This time, Twilight was certain there was no way to dodge. A paralyzed target was a target about to be hit. Unfortunately, Tesla was still charging up the attack when the Ember hit. Wailing, it struggled to stay in the fight. The chime of "your Pokemon is about to faint" started ringing in Twilight's ears.

Sometimes, she really hated the background music.

Nonetheless, Tesla got off the shot, firing the ball of electricity directly at the immobile Charmeleon.

"Charmeleon! Dod-"

Yeah, that didn't work, wasn't fast enough as the ball of lightning slammed into Charmeleon and knocked it into the ground.

And Hikari had forgotten about the background music from the pokégear, and rubbed her head as it started ringing the same chime that Twilight's was. "Charmeleon, get up and fire off another ember!"

Charmeleon struggled to make it to his feet, fire gathering at his mouth before he fired the attack towards the Magnazone before falling to his knees.
