[Best kind of buddies.

Reid smiles, crossing his arms over his chest.]
What flavor are you drinking?

[He might as well make some for himself too. He's been getting more into it since living with Mio.]

[A very brief deliberation, then:]

Plain black, the ones in the red and tan box. Two bags.

[Someone is not fuckin' around tonight. Reid gets a smile.]

Thank you.
leftinbasketforfbi: (Baby? Baby is my godson now?)

Don't worry about it.

[Someone likes their tea strong.

Reid disappears for a moment. After he puts the kettle on, he sticks his head into the living room again, looking down at the books.]
What are you working on? I might be able to help.

Just an idea I had. I do not know if it would be possible.

[She stretches her arms over her head and cracks her neck--she's been sitting there a while.]

Hybridizing berries. Or grafting the plants so two of them grow together.
leftinbasketforfbi: (I'm smarter than you so just listen)

[personal profile] leftinbasketforfbi 2013-01-27 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Hybridization?

[He slides a little closer, keeping an ear out for the water boiling and peering at the pages.]

If the plants are closely related enough to create fertile offspring, then it should be possible. What brought this on?

I could not sleep.

[It was this or go for a run. Fuck that, it's too cold. Ziva swipes some hair out of her face and shrugs.]

It is something I recall my mother talking about.
leftinbasketforfbi: (Puppy? Puppy. :3)

[personal profile] leftinbasketforfbi 2013-01-27 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Was your mom a scientist?

[Water boiling. Reid shuffles out to prepare the tea, then comes back with two piping hot mugs made to Ziva's specifications, offering her one.] What have you found out so far?
bywiseguidance: (tired attention)

[personal profile] bywiseguidance 2013-01-28 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
No, but she was a master gardener.

[Ziva smiles gratefully and takes it, wrapping her fingers around the mug to warm them.]

It should be possible, as you said, with plants most closely related. Which those are, I am not as sure...they seem to be a bit behind in genetic research, at least in these books.
leftinbasketforfbi: (Look at this and let me explain)

I feel like this world has a collective obsession with their animals to the exclusion of everything else. I really haven't seen much that isn't based on them, scientific or otherwise.

[Reid sits across from her, far enough to give them both a comfortable personal bubble.] But that's where experimentation comes in. I could help you set up a nursery for the plants, if you want.
