[ to be fair, Karkat hadn't been in a great amount of pain this week. something he has noticed, though, is that his clothes are just not fitting quite right. feels sort of like it's a thing that just happened, but he knows otherwise. ever since November, Karkat's been having to buy more clothes than what is necessary and tossing out the old.

that's mostly why he's agreed to this mini trip with Kanaya. that and it's kind of good to be out and about. flying is really the best thing there is, all right.

upon touching down, it's around lunch time. which means the first tough decision is, well... ]

Anything you feel up to trying or do you want to go the safe route with food you already know?

[She pays and then does a quick tally of her money and frowns.]

I am never going to afford everything I wished to purchase.

[And then back to him.]

If you'd like, we can exchange something before I leave.

That's why you take up jobs and defeat even the local trainers...

[ onto another floor then? what else does Kanaya need? ]

You know... I think I'd like that. Exchanging stuff. It's not something that happened last year.

I have been working since we arrived in Vermillion, Karkat. But that did not give me nearly enough money.

[She frowns at her list.]

Those small discs that contain pokemon moves.

And very well, we shall do so then.

Where have you been working?

[ Karkat usually goes into the Center. it usually pays the best. ]

TMs. You can use all of my HMs, you know. All you have to do is ask.

The pokemon center. It seemed a reasonable place to work while still attempting to learn what I can about breeding habits.

[She nods.]

Which ones do you have?

Best place, besides the Lighthouse. By now I have every HM and those don't break.

I will need to borrow those, then.

[She frowns at her list.]

I am attempting to teach Sunshine and Snipsnap every TM they can learn, so that I can breed them together. But it will cost...quite a lot.

I also have Shadow Ball as an unbreakable TM. You can use it too, since I know a lot of different types can learn that ghost move.

[ Karkat peers at the list and nearly winces. yes, it's going to cost a lot. ]

You know... Every gym leader you beat gives you at least two to three times more money, right?

I...haven't really looked into the gyms. How did you get a reusable device?

You don't really have to do them... But the extra money does help.

Anyway, I got a reusable one for surviving a particular event, I think. I can't exactly remember, but it was a gift. Like the eggs.

I can see how it would. Are they particularly difficult? Most of my pokemon are still fairly weak.

[And she's not leveling up sunshine until the little ball of happiness evolves...]

So it is unlikely I will stumble across more reusable TMs.

The lowest level gym is around thirty. Highest is about seventy to eighty?

[ shrugs. not much he can do about that. weak mons are just supplemented with a variety of TMs and strategy. ]

Who knows. You might come across one...

Hmm. I will keep that in mind.

[She's thoughtful for a moment as she starts towards the TMs.]

How would that happen?

It could feasibly happen at any time. My guess is around significant human holidays. Every extra boon we've gotten seems to come from that sort of thing.

I suppose I shall just keep an eye open.

[She's quiet.]

I wish to teach Sunshine and Snipsnap as many abilities as they can learn, and then once they are old enough, breed them to create offspring that would have both. That is going to be a very expensive process, isn't it.

[Also, Kanaya just took all the romance out of pokemon, probably.]

Yes, yes it is.

[ pauses, considering what these massive movepool offspring would be like. ]

You'll have to be on the look out for the Move Tutors too, not just pump them up with TMs. Move Tutors offer different moves and are these roaming NPCs. Every once and a while I manage to find one of those cocksuckers, but goddamn if it isn't worth it.

Move tutors. Would moves learned from them also pass on through breeding?

[Kanaya is going to have grass pokemon that have all of the moves. All of them.]

Yes. Anything that's learned from a Move Tutor also is passed on. At least, this is what I have observed from some of the egg batches that I've had and hatchlings I have taken from others.

[ but they can finally leave and eat, right? ]

[Kanaya pays for a few Tms and then turns back to him.]

Now then, are we going to eat, or clothes shopping?

Eat first. Shopping later. I don't think I can go another hour before my stomach commits mutiny.

[She just smiles faintly and nods, offering one of her bags to carry.]

Okay. Lead the way.

[ and he takes it, of course. Kanaya is his best friend and somehow he has decent manners around her.

Karkat opens the door for Kanaya too. then he heads off to one of his favorite Italian-style places in the city. ]

Do you like pastas and junk?

I have never had them, so I don't know. Maybe?

You're making me weep, Kanaya. It's just a crime to not have Alfredo.

[ and you can bet that Karkat is opening the door for Kanaya. will even pull out her chair for her to sit down at the table too. ]
