we're on a boat
Who: Hikaru Hitachiin and anyone else currently on the ferry to Pallet Town!
Where: On the ferry to Pallet Town!!
When: Feb 5? Feb 6? Feb 7? It's a 3 day ride so any of the three days works!
Summary: Riding the ferry to Pallet Town is sure to bring characters together to meet, mingle, and maybe even practice battling water Pokemon or each other, or just talk about Pokemon!
Rating: Depends on who ends up joining, so for now it's PG!
Log:
[As annoyed as Hikaru was with knowing he's stuck on this ferry for longer than he would like, he's making good use of his time. Reading through the trainer handbook? Check. Getting more familiar with the items in his backpack? Check. Trying his hand at battling? ... No check. It was just a completely different lifestyle for him, and he felt uncomfortable sending his cute Pokemon out to battle. He knew he would have to though, eventually. Maybe after he read more about it.
At least he wasn't outside in the snow and cold for the time being. That's one thing he can appreciate. Being a social person, perhaps he would chat with others and see if they're as unsure about everything as he is. He's sure they are, but it would still be comforting to hear! With what he was told from Aradia, getting to know other trainers would be a huge benefit on this journey, so he would take her advice and go forth and meet other trainers!]

But finding a fine brew of tea certainly wasn't Mami's top priority. (Especially since her trainer's manual and the gear both claimed her new partner was capable of producing some very fortunate leaves.) No, right now she was brooding. With all this time to relax and enjoy the view, her thoughts had returned to the desperate state she'd left behind.
She couldn't quite long to return, not with such an odd reprieve offered to her, to be a normal girl again but still get to fight and have someone beside her. But she had enough conscience to be ashamed of herself for it. She admired the horizon, speaking out to seemingly no one - seeing how her Petilil had curled up under her deck chair, now that the sun was going down.
"Get some rest now. We have a long road ahead of us, allegedly."

As he busies himself with pacing, his Vulpix leaves his side, running over to Mami with a headtilt and a bit of a devilish expression.
"Oi, oi! Don't walk away while I'm talking to you!"
Hikaru follows after his Vulpix to ensure that sure he wasn't going to cause any trouble. Ah, now it made sense. He must have known there was someone else here!
"Oh, hey. I hope my Vulpix didn't cause any trouble..." Hikaru still isn't sure of the level of power and speed his Pokemon has, so knowing that anything can happen at any time, especially with his Vulpix being a troublemaker at times, concerns him.
no subject
"Oh no, I didn't even notice him." Which wasn't quite the same, but any trouble would be thus uncaught. Still, her Petilil is edging quietly back behind her ankles. The uncharacteristic wariness reminds Mami of the notes she read, about Pokemon avoiding types that could harm them more easily. There were a few that could make her wary, but just looking at the red fur...
"Is that a fire-type?"
no subject
"Yes, he is a fire type! Isn't he cute?" Hikaru thought nothing of her question, assuming she asked out of curiosity rather than concern. He barely noticed her Pokemon, let alone that it was a grass type. Oblivious as ever!
no subject
Except she knows she shouldn't judge Pokemon by their looks, if her own is anything to judge by - skittish thing that she is. And she's scooting closer to her leg, so Mami takes a beat to pick up her Petilil before speaking further.
Later on, she'd have to talk to her about presenting a calm, brave face, be it for a potential enemy or friend. And since she's hoping for the latter, she keeps smiling.
"Did the two of you just meet in New Bark, like me and Sara?"
no subject
"Yeah, yeah! We did! So that means you're both new too, huh?
He clasped his hands together, very much excited for the opportunity to speak with someone else in his shoes. He had to wonder if she had heard anything he should know about!
"Have you spoken to many people? I've been told that it's important to establish a network of other trainers!"
no subject
His question though - while rationale enough, aboard a boat likely filled with new faces like them - drew only surprise at first. Searching for words, she finally managed a reply.
"I didn't know... I thought we were expected to have our Pokemon fight each other, so most wouldn't be interested in talking."
Not a concept she was fond of, at all, but a familiar one. But, if there was no limited supply of badges or some sort to fight over... Did most trainers get along, despite it all?
no subject
"Well, I was told that some people travel in groups! I mean, I have someone I'm going to travel with once I get to Pallet Town, but I'm sure it's good to keep your options open to make room for others! Working in a team is undoubtedly stronger than going solo, you know!"
After putting a hand on his hip, he makes a fist! "That's not to say that what you said isn't true — it most certainly is, I'm sure! It's okay to have enemies, too, in this world. Everyone is free to play the game any way they wish!"
no subject
Looks like Mami's a convert! Or a very pleased, now informed trainer.
"Thank you, I don't know how long I would have ignored the calls on this odd phone! And if I never spoke to the other arrivals on this boat... That would have been quite a loss."
no subject
"You're very welcome! I can understand that — I wasn't sure about all of that myself. Thank goodness I have my brother here, as well as those that he has befriended, to help me! Otherwise I probably would have avoided contact with others myself."
That would have been awful, doing everything by himself. The fact that she chose teamwork over making enemies pleased him as well, especially in a place like this where there were probably enemies everywhere who take advantage of newcomers like them.
He bowed! "I'm Hikaru Hitachiin, by the way. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance!"
no subject
But prying questions aside, the fellow did give quite a polite greeting, and she's certainly happy to give a small bow of her own before answering. "It's nice to meet you too. I'm Mami Tomoe."
no subject
Hikaru grins, a thoughtful expression on his face. It was unfortunate that he was a newcomer himself, otherwise he'd be glad to provide her with more information. Kaoru would be so proud of him if he knew!
"Mami Tomoe," he repeated with a nod. "I'll remember that!"
no subject
And she smiles at the promise.
"I doubt you'll be able to. Now that you've said it, I plan to use this 'network' accordingly."
no subject
"Yes, take advantage of it! Maybe you'll find you have friends from home here!" He snapped his fingers. "The quickest and easiest way to make a team of people you trust!"
no subject
-but her shared cheer is interrupted by her Petilil leaning hard in the way Mami's taken to mean 'put me there, please' so she turns to place her on a deck table, where she goes back to sunbathing and vulpix-watching.
"-do you and your brother have anyone else here? Or someone to look for?"
no subject
He rubbed the back of his neck, taking a moment to respond. "As far as we know, we don't have any other friends from home here. No other family members to seek. It's just us as of right now. I'm sure there will be others some day, because if we're here, why wouldn't others soon follow? It only makes sense!"
no subject
"And even if it takes longer, it gives us a chance to learn how things work here. That means if anyone follows me here, I can help them."
no subject
It took her quite a while to stop panicking after she woke up in mom's house, because the situation back home had been too important. But once she heard that time stopped, she'd go back to that moment and all that jazz, she calmed down. Mostly. She was still worried about her friend, family and Mitakihara, but well - what could she do about it in a place where no one knew how to get out? Nothing. Said friend would hopefully be happy to know that she wasn't doing anything stupid this time.
Madoka was just cheerfully chatting with her Eevee -- who was trying to stay on her shoulder much like a white creature did a lot at some point back home -- when a certain voice stopped the girl dead on her tracks and gave her the chills. H-Huh?
Eevee made a worried sound. Her trained looked weird. Madoka was looking at the other twintailed girl. She should have been happy right now, right? Uh, sorry senpai, but she's quite shocked at first.
"...Mami-san..." That was not a question, she's sure that this was Mami right there. How was that possible, Madoka has absolutely no idea. Also, sorry. She's quite speechless from shock, for now.
no subject
Mami was so focused on watching the waves and spots of land floating by, she didn't notice any shift in the noise around her. But her name, called where no one should know her, was enough to break through her internal reminders of the friend she needed to help, even if she couldn't get to her anytime soon.
But turning her head- Staring like she can't comprehend who she's seeing, standing right there with her... Mami jolts out of her chair so fast, the green bulb at her feet jolts awake with a squeak.
"Kaname-san!" Was it possible? She'd been fighting all guilt all this time, afraid she left her friends behind to witches and worry, and now here, one of them was just-
A few steps away, and she covers them in a quick instant, too happy to care about her obvious words. "You were called to 'Johto' as well?!"
no subject
The pink haired girl twitched as the other girl suddenly moved. And what was that sound coming somewhere near Mami? Whatever it was, Madoka was focused on staring at the other girl. Her Eevee was more curious about the sound, so she jumped down and looked at the green bulb with a friendly face. Hello new friend!
Madoka wished she was like that Eevee - always welcoming new and old friends with a cheerful face. She was happy or more like overjoyed to see Mami, so happy that she wasn't even able stop the tears coming to her eyes. Sorry, she wasn't a cool person like you and Homura-chan, who kept their feelings in control. Maybe they were a bit harder to notice from her smile. "Mmm, looks like it. I wonder if we're all here..." She hadn't seen the others or heard anything from them and it would be as weird as this. But there was always hope, right? Believing in hope was important. Madoka could only hope that she wasn't going to break down and cry right now. She should just concentrate on the happy side of this and it was going to be okay. "Did you just arrive too?"
no subject
No, she didn't notice anything fast, not when Madoka's comment repeated her own wild hopes, that her friends would also all be here, safe and sound, and this strange detour would move from pleasant to perfect.
But she wasn't blind, and the more she looked, the clearer Madoka's distress became, so while Mami gave a distracted "Yes, we must have missed each other in town..." she was reassessing the whole situation. She was here, yes, but the last time Mami remembered talking to her, Madoka had been caught up in worry of Sayaka and witches. And now...
"Kaname-san, what's wrong? Did something happen?"
no subject
What if they all were here and Madoka was from their future? And then she couldn't explain what was wrong with her for getting way too emotional about everything. Sure, she was on her way to do all the things at home, but this wasn't home and seeing just one of them here was a shocking surprise. A very, very wonderful surprise, but she had no idea of how to handle situations like this.
Madoka was just standing there, trying to maintain at least some control of herself. She nodded at Mami's words. Maybe they all were brought here at the same time somehow. "It's possible. There were a lot of people..." They'd just have to hope for it, right? Maybe - maybe it was possible that they were all here.
Oh dear. Madoka swallowed. She had no idea what was the last thing Mami-san remembered from Mitakihara, but she didn't want to jump into any assumptions either. The pink haired girl shook her head. "I just -- thought I was... All alone here." A lonely Madoka was a sad Madoka, unless she was in a place where she could at least see everyone. "So -- I'm really glad to see you, Mami-san." She wasn't even lying, she just didn't tell the whole truth.
no subject
The answer's a rock in her throat, one all too familiar, and Mami struggles to push it down before she herself falls victim to her feelings. This wasn't the time for this- She was happy, ecstatic to have someone she knew back, in a world where they didn't have to worry about witches or danger or fighting.
Or, at least not dangerous fighting, and she doesn't expect the little thing giving a pleasant call to Madoka's Eevee to be interested in many battles. She was too laid-back to even rambunctiously play around.
"I am, too. And I don't know quite where we are, but I wouldn't be shocked, if we see other friendly faces. It's already done stranger things than bringing all of us together..."
no subject
Eevee walked closer and nuzzled that cute little grass type a bit. Then she just laid down next to it, offering either her body or tail for a pillow or something. She needed to get rest, so she'd have the energy to protect Madoka from any wild Pokémon! ...Maybe Madoka should have just named it Homura-chan.
Madoka dried her eyes. "Stranger things?" What did she mean? Sure, the whole thing that Mami-san was in great condition right in front of her was strange - and amazing - but was there something else too? "We'll just have to hope that they're here somewhere, or that they'll come here too." Being together with all of her friends in this world would be more than she ever hoped for. "Then we could all travel together." Was it wrong to assume that Mami-san would travel with her? No, she didn't think so.
no subject
Mami - meanwhile - was happy as well, holding up her hand as soon as Madoka asked to show bare fingers. "Yes- Look. My soul gem is missing, but I'm just fine." And yes, that meant she had no powers of her own, but from everything she heard, the Pokemon could more than protect themselves and others, without any cost of a bound contract or depleting magic. For all purposes, she was a normal girl again.
And if it were true for her, would it be for Sayaka? Or even Kyoko? The transfer student? How many girls might be cured of their duties, waking up in this world? Were they the only two? Or... But Madoka was right, they just had to hope. And until then, Mami was more than happy with the potential. "Certainly. This world has dangers of its own, and if we can help each other face them-"
And she and Madoka- They were the same, this time! Starting from scratch, side by side.
no subject
That was the second thing Madoka's mind couldn't quite comprehend. Her Soul Gem was - gone? "But it's so important -!" Back home. Did she even know about it? Madoka wasn't sure. It sounded like maybe she knew at least something, she said she was fine without it, but Madoka couldn't be sure. No but, really. That was wonderful and now when Madoka's mind was taking that information in bit by bit, she was getting excited about it. "Mami-san, that's wonderful! I hope the same happens with everyone!" It'd be like a dream come true. Living with them here without worrying about the gems. It would take some time to believe that it was really true.
"We'll be okay. We'll help each other to face anything here and our Pokémon friends will find their own ways to help us too." Eevee was a battler, clearly. Mami's Petilil? Mm, maybe not so much, not that Madoka could easily tell, but maybe they all had their own abilities too.
no subject
And Madoka- "Yes..." Mami glanced down at the Pokémon. It was easier to stay calm, to not cry or let her hands shake when she looked down at the tiny, peculiar new friends, instead of straight into Madoka's face. She couldn't let it show, couldn't let herself get overwhelmed by relief and hope. Just days ago, she was watching Sayaka slip away from her, Kyoko haunting her steps, Madoka disappearing into her worry... And now they were here.
"-I don't know how this happened, but we're together. That's what matters."
no subject
Madoka is biting her lip to keep a better control of herself. It's been a really emotional and difficult month, but maybe all of this can make up for it. Especially if time kind of stops while she's here. Sure, she's still worried about her best friend and she didn't do anything to change things, yet, but it will be okay. She has the right to enjoy this new world, right? Homura-chan would like that, right? They could have a fun adventure instead of everything that's going on back home.
"Maybe we'll find out more about how it happened later." We're together. That's what matters. Madoka is so happy to hear those words, her smile becomes wider. "Mmm. I was going to look around if I could find some new friends, but then I found you here and now we can do everything here together." She's beaming. "It's going to be so much fun." She's trying to stay optimistic here, despite all of her worry about everything back home.
no subject
And she'd be happy to throw herself into the goal with no qualms... But, there is that inkling of, something being off, even with Madoka herself. And if she couldn't put her finger on it, yet... The only thing to do, was put on a smile.
"Then shall we start exploring, right now? There's a whole boat of people and other Pokemon."
no subject
Smiling is good! Madoka would rather not ask her about what's the last thing she remembers from Mitakihara. If it's something that just makes her cry, then what if she wants to know the reason for those tears? She couldn't tell, unless it was from that moment, she couldn't... And right now, Madoka decides to not think about it. Time for thinking about it would be later. She could be happy to see her there right now, couldn't she?
"I like that plan, let's do it! Maybe we'll find others who are new, or who knows, we might even find people who've been here for some time and can give us some answers." If they ask questions, that is. "Or good advice on anything."
no subject
Except, there were, in a different way. The little Pokemon in her charge, and any others she added to her team were her responsibility, as much as any witch's target. Even if they did the fighting for her, it was her job to teach Sara and keep her strong.
But in the meantime, while on this boat, she could focus on her other goals. Find new friends. Help Madoka. "Even if they're new, too, we can see what sort of Pokemon they've been paired with. There's hundreds of them, according to that manual. And I think we're expected to catch more than just our starters, so we should see what's out there."
no subject
What? What?! Sorry, Mami-san, she forgets everything else when her minds focuses on the amount you just said and Madoka looks shocked. "H-H-Hundreds!?! How are we ever supposed to choose only six from hundreds? I mean -- ummm" She's blushing a bit. "I - They mentioned a storage system on the PC too, but keeping these new friends on something like that is just too cruel."
no subject
Even with hundreds. But Madoke's point does make her stop smiling long enough to look quizzical. "Perhaps- I should have asked that professor what happens to them when we send them through the system. Maybe we can ask another trainer later."
no subject
Oh! She should have asked the professor too, but everything was too confusing and she didn't want to bother him too much. "Mm, we can ask other trainers later. Maybe there's a way to keep them all in one place even if it means staying in the same place too."

Knut was balancing on the railing, horsing around.
"Come down off of there, eh? You're going to fall in the water if you're not careful..." just then, as if to punctuate his warning, Knut slipped and fell over the railing! Bill rushed to catch him, and, while he did, he also wound up hanging over the railing, his legs the only thing keeping the two of them from dropping into the water. However, the railing and deck were slick with water and ice...
"HEEEEELLLP!"
So you get mucho love for playing Bill, omg
Bill wasn't nearly as heavy as he thought he would without his usual stats. Still, it was a bit of an awkward hold and once he pulled Bill high enough to get his legs hooked onto the railing again, he used his other hand to reach down. "Take my hand."
dfadsfdsafads SOMEBODY KNOWS MY CANON
"R-Right, then!" he responded, voice wavering a little. He lifted Knut to his head, and the frightened Cubchoo clung on for dear life. With his hands now free, he was able to grab Cloud's extended hand.
Hehehe~ yeah, ngl, Tom Hiddleston got me into it. But it was a hilarious show!
Cloud made sure all body parts and Pokemon were on the deck before he actually let go, stepping back a bit to give Bill some room. "You okay?"
Same here. HAND KNIT ROBBERY MASKS.
"Oh, thanks so much for that! I don't think even an ice type would last long in that water!" he pulled the resisting Cubchoo off his head and made him face Cloud.
"Go on, show your appreciation. If it wasn't for him we'd be a pair of popsicles, yeah?" Knut eyed Cloud warily before bowing in thanks.
"So, yeah, thanks so much! I'm Bill, by the way."
XD Oh geez.
"You're welcome," He replied, then, after a pause, he answered. "Cloud."
no subject
"Probably could've met under less...frightening circumstances, eh?"
no subject
Though without Sephiroth around, he's not entirely sure how to be normal anymore. He can be quiet, though. And observe. But he really wishes he had his sword. It was a comfortable weight after all these years. He felt naked without it.
He's not very good at keeping conversation and after awhile, he fumbled a bit. "So... how long have you been here?"
no subject
"Are you with an army then? Been deployed a lot?"
no subject
no subject
"....are you serious? I've never heard of...anything like that."
no subject
She's still uncertain about everything too. She should train this Eevee for battles? She should fight against other Pokémon? It sounds cruel. She might be able to do it on a video game console somehow, but in real life? Yeah uh, no. Eevee is too cute for battles. And what are people even supposed to post on that network? Journals about their journey? Everything random? Both?
Wherever Madoka found some drawing and coloring supplies is a mystery, but she's mostly sitting somewhere around the ferry and drawing all these people with their Pokémon. Or just the creatures if someone tells her to not to draw him/her.
Her still nameless Eevee is playing with something that seems to be a Pikachu costume whenever she's not on Madoka's shoulder. Now, a costume is pretty boring for a new friend. It doesn't even speak, nor does it have a real face! So she decides to help Madoka make new friends. Her trainer is a social girl, really, but maybe she just doesn't know where to start. Eevee says hello to everyone who pass by them, trying to get attention with her cuteness.
Or well, she might also run to other trainers to say hello to them (with or without the Pikachu costume, it's not so easy to run if she tries to carry it with her, but she'll try!) A little distraction from drawing is just good for the girl and Eevee wants to meet everyone and Madoka is the type to be friends with everyone too.
So, go - distract her while she's drawing or meet her Eevee first. Anyone might have heard her talking non stop to the evolution Pokémon too, about this place, wondering what kind of place Johto is, about getting new friends to the Eevee too etc.]
