Where: Celadon Training Center, before Sasuke leaves with Obito and Evan
What: After overhearing a rather serious conversation between Sasuke and Obito, Tenten decides to approach the younger of the two about what she heard.
Warning: PG-13 for serious subject matter and possible coarse language

He didn't want to, but the others existed. At least this way he could finally challenge Whitney for her badge, though he wasn't sure he even wanted to. The fact that Obito made him continue to question it... No. He couldn't afford to question it. He had to get stronger, to--

The sound of footsteps approaching his door caught Sasuke's attention and he turned, his eyes finding Tenten with a cold and neutral expression, not unlike what he wore when he first graduated as a Genin, "What is it."

"It's something I have to do myself. I'm the only one left with the power to match his."

"Sharingan?" Another glance, but she didn't bother to ask if she could see it; if they couldn't mold Chakra, there was no way he could use Sharingan. "But doesn't your sensei...?"

"I don't know how he got it. But he doesn't have the eyes He has. I wouldn't want anyone else to have those eyes."

Can he even do what's necessary to get the same eyes - the power to match his eyes? Now, more and more as he got closer to the people here, it seemed... Unbelievable. But he had to get more firm in his resolve if he ever wanted to have revenge... No matter what Obito said.

"What eyes?" If he'd meant the Sharingan, he wouldn't have had to clarify. Her own eyes narrowed as she looked more closely at him, arms tighting over her chest. "What're you talking about, Sasuke-kun?"

"... A second stage of Sharingan, and one not many of our clan would have dared to try and obtain. With good reason."

A second stage... Neji's Byakugan didn't do anything like that, she was pretty sure. "Like an evolution, you mean," she added, gaze firming. "And why don't you want it?"

It was a clan secret... But at this point, who was there to be a gatekeeper of it? There was no point in keeping it to himself, and she had to understand.

"To get it, the user has to suffer the pain of the death of the person closest to them. He said I would have to kill my best friend."

She waited, somewhat patiently, for him to reveal whatever it was... and then once he had, she almost wished that he hadn't. "But that's... why would eyes work like that, that doesn't make any..."

A breath as she looked to him, fingers clenching her arm. "Can't you beat him without that?"

"If I can't match his eyes, I can't avenge those who died at his hands."

He sighed shakily, frowning at the bedding beneath him before he stood, slinging his bag over his back, "And I have to protect what family I have left."

"Can't you just beat him some other way?" She frowned at him, shaking her head slowly. "I don't... there's no way you'd have to do something like that. Killing a comrade'd make you just as bad as him."

Her fingernails dug into her bicep, but her lips just twitched as she nodded. "I guess this's where we part ways, then, huh?"

"I don't know."

The statement earned Tenten the briefest of glares, as if to suggest that he was in any way similar to Itachi, "But I'm going to find a way. I won't be like him."

When he was done speaking, he breathed out heavily, letting his shoulders slump as he calmed, "... For now."

She just tilted her chin and stared back, not about to let herself be cowed by a rookie, no matter how skilled. "If anyone can find a way, it's you," she said instead, finally uncrossing her arms to rest a hand on her hip.

"Well, good luck out there. You can reach me if you need me, so don't hesitate to, okay?"

"... Yeah," He nodded, holding onto the bag more tightly before he slung it over his shoulders.

Realizing that she was intruding in his room, she just sighed through her nose and shrugged, backing up to let him out. "See you around, Sasuke-kun."
