[Vanitas squinted in the mirror at himself all.. dressed up. Nice shoes, pants that aren't jeans or some sort of training clothes - it was practically a suit. He did make an attempt to make his hair more presentable, but with how it's grown out again, the only option was to slick it back like he did a year ago. Still, as nice and presentable as he looks, it still feels a little awkward to be dressed so different. Picking at the sleeves on his wrists, he grunts and throws on his jacket then to step out of his room.

Giving a knock at Karkat's door, he waits with a little box in hand.]

[ meanwhile, Karkat is standing in front of what mirror he can get a hold of and looking pretty panic stricken. WHY DOES ROSE HAVE TO DO THIS TO HIM? WHYYYYYY!? WHY A SUIT? IT LOOKS STUPID. HE IS STUPID. BLAH BLAH -

knocking. Vanitas must be ready. probably has everything all set and they're finally using this Christmas present and Karkat is nervous though he has absolutely no reason to be. the best that he can do with his hair is to just brush it. there's no styling the thing and honestly? it's awkward anyway and he needs at least ONE part of himself to seem like it. ]

It's not locked, Vani.

[ on the bed is a giant Charizard plush toy and a single pokéball. yupp. ]

Just giving a heads up, unless you want me to start walking in without knocking.

[Opening the door and stepping in, he winds up pausing in the doorway to give Karkat a look over. Really, what the hell does he have to be all nervous for, he looks just fine (and by fine, he means wow fine). Vani spies the giant plush, but he'll check it out more in a minute; for now, he's letting the door shut behind him and moving in to pass him the box.] Here; it would be the stuff I made but it ended up inedible, so I had to buy it instead.

[Triple chocolate fudge? Of course.]

[ Karkat pauses a minute. looking Vanitas up and down. the suit is a good look for him. really, it is. but there's one thing missing. Karkat passes up the box first, ruffling Vanitas' hair back into place. NOW it really looks like his boyfriend. just the way it should be.

now he takes the box and snorts, opening it and giving a little smile. ]

Hey, it's the thought that counts, right? At least you tried and you'll know these won't make it through to morning.

[ he looks over to the bed and makes a motion for Vanitas to check that out. ]

[Snorting and opening his mouth to complain, he gives up a moment later and lets Karkat ruffle his hair back into its spiky self. Vani tips his head in to sneak a kiss to Karkat's forehead before moving to the bed, chuckling with a wide smile about the giant plush.]

Jeez, this is enormous enough to sleep on -- is that a hint? Am I sleeping on this now? [Mostly he's teasing, picking up the pokeball now and giving it a curious inspection, before releasing the Pokemon inside to see what it is.]

[ Karkat adores Vanitas for all that he is, messed up hair and all. he sets the box to the side, saving it for later. honestly, he's glad that Vanitas likes it. Karkat hadn't been entirely sure that the guy would like a plush toy as a present. good to know that instinct had been right. ]

At least it will keep you company when I take double work shifts.

[ inside the ball is a level 20 Luvdisc. female. ]

[Half sitting on the plush to avoid crouching down too far, Vanitas winds up taking out his dex to read about the Luvdisc; by the time he's read it and gave the little heart shaped fish a few pets with his fingertips, Vani is smiling so warmly. Returning the Pokemon, he'll name her later, he's leaning back on the plush now and making some light grabby hands.]

Thanks. It'll definitely do just that.

[ good. he likes that too. Karkat will likely tell him the story he heard about that later, but for now he's shaking his head. there is no time to cuddle. ]

Wait until after we get back. We have a reservation and can't miss it.

[He puffs a little, but sits up then and makes a half attempt to straighten his clothes.] Alright alright. [Moving and approaching again, Vani dips his head in to steal another little smooch to his cheek, before offering his arm in a gentlemanly gesture.

Manners; you put them in this boy.]

[ definitely taking that offered arm. still blushing just a touch and giving a return smooch to the cheek. ]

We can come back to change clothes before looking at the bugs.

[Cute.] Yeah, sure. [Squeezing his arm with his own, Vani opens the door to lead the way with a brighter smile.] Think you want to catch either of them? Might be interesting to train.

Maybe. We don't have a lot of bug types on our teams. Might be good to even it out just a little? Problem is, I'm running out of room, I think.

[ such a gentleman, Vani. how cute yourself. ]

Yeah, all we've got are the Scolipedes. Hm.. [He wants to vocalize that.. house, but no. Not yet. After their last four badges. Instead, he just hmms in thought a second time, continuing along the street.]

How do you know you're running out of space?

Scyther, Joltik, and Scizor are bug types too...

[ Karkat shrugs, not at all bothered by going out in public right now. other people are dressed up and going about. nothing to see here. ]

I keep getting a little message about so many more before my box is filled. Chances are I'm probably going to put Marisa and Christopher up to the Adoption Center.

Forgot about those three for a sec, though I did get a Scyther now too to train..

[Whoops, he forgot about those; Static he almost never sees, and for a moment, he's glancing at Karkat's hair as if he can find the little critter. Vani knows that Pokemon likes hiding in there more often than not..]

Yeah? Just not up to training them further?

[ sadly, the Joltik is nowhere to be seen. Karkat has given Leopold strict orders to make sure everyone behaves. fortunately, the two Vaporeons seem to be happy to be together again, even if one is comforting the other. poor Reef.

Karkat shrugs at the question. ]

More like Venomoths are kind of messy. Training means I get covered in the powder from its wings and I'm not into cleaning after EVERY training session. Christopher is just... Difficult.

Difficult in not listening? [The powder makes sense, now that he thinks about a Venomoth. It's a wonder they get used at all sometimes, like Janine's down in Fuschia.]

He doesn't want to train anymore. At all. It's not about listening or whatever, it's just he's not interested in anything but looking pretty.

Useless. [aka wow send that guy there pronto]

Not necessarily useless. More like just not a good fit for me. It's a little disrespectful and I battle a lot. He'd probably be happier with someone else.

Mmph. I guess. [Still a sort of meh idea that something doesn't even try to fight, but whatever. Now that they're approaching the fancy restaraunt, he'll get the door for Karkat again.]

You really think you're going to be doing a shit ton of fighting with that Luvdisc?

[ and Karkat will walk through the door with a flushed thanks. wait on Vanitas to come on in. reservationssssss. ]

Hey. She's a special gift. [Winding up wearing a light smirk at that flush, he moves in after him for those reservations.]

A lot of what we have are "special gifts," dumbass...

[ but he's smirking right back as he says it. point is proven. now it's time to follow the waiter to their seats.

at least they don't look out of place there tonight. ]

Whatever. [Then escorted to their seats, Vani half glances about before getting a little more relaxed about the fancy clothes. About to slide into his seat, he goes and pulls out Karkat's chair first.]

This one has a story behind it, right? The shape and all.

[ bawwww. such a gentleman. Karkat nods, settling in his chair. ]
