MAKE UP YOUR OWN CATCHY LYRICS
Who: Kay Faraday and Johan Andersen
Where: Azalea Town
When: Tuesday, August 3, late afternoon/evening-ish
Summary: Kay didn't want her first date to be with a Pokémon kidnapper. Johan is a good friend. Date GET.
Rating: G, most likely!
Log:
Had anyone told Kay Faraday that she'd be going on her first date in a world not her own, she would have laughed.
... Or maybe she would have been intrigued first, and then she would have laughed. But at the moment, Kay wasn't laughing. She was instead waiting outside of Azalea's Pokémart, shoulders for once free of Pokémon after a long talk with them about staying in their balls this time. Just for a little while, she'd promised, and they were more than welcome to stick close to her for her eventual date with 777, but this wasn't him, it was Johan, and for Johan's sake, it was only going to be the two of them.
Plus, she didn't think a date with anyone would go well with a jealous Zubat trying to bite whatever he could reach.
With her limited knowledge of what one was supposed to do/look like on dates, Kay had done her best with the minimal resources she had. Namely, she'd let her hair down, had a minor moment of panic upon realizing that her only other outfit was something reminiscent of a burglar, and had been on the verge of convincing herself that this was Johan and he wouldn't care if she wore a sweatsuit and baseball cap until the inn's owner had taken pity on her and found her a dress to borrow (she missed her regular outfit already).
"Okay," she said aloud, sucking in a breath and doing her best not to fidget. So maybe this was a first date, but at least it was with a friend, and just because she'd never gotten any dating advice except "Not until you're thirty" from both her father and Uncle Badd, that didn't mean she couldn't pull this off! This was practice for a mission! "This'll be easy!"
Or so she hoped.

Or so she hoped.

To prove her point, she folded her arms across her chest, pressed her lips firmly together, and fell silent.
... What a duo.
no subject
Of course, he could grin at her while he was being silent. Why?
Even as they were being silent, she had forgotten a very important thing. She was still in his arms.
no subject
She didn't trust that grin, though, as evidenced when she raised an eyebrow at him and watched him warily. Just what did he look so pleased about?
no subject
Then, all of a sudden, he began drumming his fingers against her leg. Slowly but surely, away his fingers went, just... drumming. She'd have to notice that, though.
no subject
She hadn't taken him for the musical or improvisational sort, so needless to say, Kay's expression was laughably confused. What was he up to? And why did she get the feeling she didn't actually want the answer to that question?
no subject
However, this wasn't all there was to his... quickly thought up... somewhat... hopefully grand master plan, oh no. The pace of his fingers soon began to quicken, to a point that, while it wasn't necessarily in the right spot for it, it might have begun to feel rather reminiscent of what had happened to her the day before.
no subject
There was no way... he couldn't-- he wouldn't be that mean! And yet, it seemed as though Johan had only just begun, and Kay was very inwardly relieved that he'd settled on a neutral spot. It gave her ample time to try and wriggle away and, barring that, give him the most dangerous glare she could muster on such short notice.
no subject
... Really, Johan found it wasn't a choice at all; his fingers' movements stopped as quickly as they had started, and he was pulling Kay as close to him as he could to prevent her escape. Who knew, maybe that would get something out of her anyway?
no subject
That he was pulling her closer. So was keeping her where she was more important than winning this little... whatever-it-was, or had he just decided to try another option? Kay honestly didn't know, but as long as he wasn't tickling, she ceased her struggling. He'd have to make another move sooner or later.
no subject
Now his however... He didn't have too many in mind at the moment, though one did come to mind that seemed fairly straightforward, and perhaps super effective against someone like Kay.
Keep quiet and wait until she got bored. Staying like this and being quiet was kind of nice too, now that he had a moment to think about it.
no subject
Johan had been correct in that staying quiet would eventually drive her crazy, as it was her belief that life was so much better when things were happening and you weren't just sitting there and drinking tea. Boredom was a danger.
But Kay had no intention of being bored. Johan had pulled her close enough, and she shifted just enough to make herself comfortable and leaned up a little to investigate. As she'd thought when she'd pulled that jawline stunt, Johan smelled nice. Nestling her head in between his neck and his shoulder seemed like a good idea to her, and she exhaled silently.
This was tolerable. Comfy, even. And with that, her thoughts, and her soft breathing against his skin, she wasn't going to succumb to boredom anytime soon.
no subject
They were both, for the most part, wide awake. A bit chilly, but Johan hoped he was doing his job in making up for that as far as Kay was concerned. No, what he was suddenly aware of was Kay's head nestled in-between his neck and shoulder, that it was a lot nicer feeling than he remembered it usually being, that despite his teasing, he really could get used to this having her in his arms like this, not to mention the feeling of her breath on him--
... What was wrong with him?
He blinked a few times, grateful for Kay not being able to see his face right then, and then let out a long breath. He supposed as long as they stayed silent like this, it would be okay, right? Whatever... it was.
... This whole thing, whatever the thing was or wasn't, was so confusing! And here she was, still breathing against him, like it was nothing. ... Maybe it was to her...? Johan gulped and fought back an urge to shake his head.
Get it together Johan. This is nothing compared to some of the things you've been through! What would Juudai think if he could see you right now?
... Not really having an answer for that, Johan simply let out another breath and slowed his pace. If it came down to it, maybe he'd find somewhere to sit and hope she didn't get off of him at the first chance she got. ... Or was it hope she did? ... No, it was hope she didn't. ... Right?
...... This was really confusing.
no subject
And, sadly, she'd almost entirely forgotten about the little "challenge" they had going. So what if she most likely wasn't going to get a sound out of him, save of suddenly sitting bolt upright and shrieking at the top of her lungs? She didn't have any driving urge to open her mouth and ruin this... whatever it was, either. She wasn't sure what it was, nor was she used to spending time with someone in silence, but the silence was a comfortable one-- almost like a blanket, if she had to describe it. To say she disliked it would be lying, and Kay made a point of being honest.
So she just settled down for the ride.

He blinked. Just ahead of them, there was a bench. A bench sitting all by its lonesome. He gave Kay a quick glance without moving his head, then the bench again, and against his better judgement and, ignoring an odd, heavy feeling settling in his stomach, came to a decision.
"I guess I lose," Johan finally murmured quietly, turning slightly and speaking into Kay's hair, at the same time making his way towards the bench. He could do this all night, he really could, but at the same time he didn't know how much more he could handle of it.
... Even Johan knew how little sense that made. Mentally shaking his head once more, he continued, a glance ahead at the bench. He had to word this... right.
"Mind if I sit down for a little bit?" He hadn't said "we", so maybe she'd... stay, and they could sit there and resume their stargazing or something like that? The night was still young, as he'd said, and Johan wouldn't mind if that was how they ended up spending it, but Kay had wanted to go, hadn't she?
... Was he really trying to take advantage of her? At that realization, he suddenly felt guilty, but it was far too late to take the words back now that they had been spoken. Now he just had to wait for a response and wonder what was wrong with him.
no subject
"Go ahead," she told him just as quietly, making no further motion to move. "You're the one who's been doing all the walking, anyway." And she would have felt bad about that, but he'd been somewhat insistent on it, so she didn't bother. Not like she could reverse their positions; carrying Johan would have been ridiculously difficult for any girl without a decent set of muscles.
no subject
He approached the bench gently, taking great care to make sure Kay didn't come into contact with it at all, as if her doing so would break the... trance they were both in, if that was the right word for it. Maybe it wasn't, but Johan had a bench to sit on, so he wasn't going to give it too much thought. He lowered himself gently, and then, all of a sudden, they were seated.
"... There." He finally said, still just as quiet. He really would have to figure out just what was going on with him, but... he supposed it could wait.
no subject
She didn't know. There were a lot of things she was rapidly coming to realize that she didn't know about, but Kay couldn't bring herself to care just then. Fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately) for Johan, she didn't even entertain the thought of scooting out of his arms-- or lap, more like. She just glanced up at him, then at the sky, where the stars had persisted in becoming brighter. Kay nodded to herself and returned her head back to its previous resting spot.
"They're even prettier from here," she remarked, apropos of nothing.
no subject
Or... At least be like whatever this was, which seemed to be okay. That was fine too, he supposed.
"Huh?" He blinked a few times, having once more been taken in by her and the peculiar thoughts she'd brought upon him tonight. He blinked once more, for good measure, and looked in her direction, her head once more resting just next to his. Once more becoming aware of those things he'd become aware of when she first got that close, he let out a breath and looked up, smiling at the sight that met him. "... Yeah, they are. I guess I picked a good spot."
no subject
"So I'll give you a reward for Good Spot Finding." Kay wasn't exactly paying attention to her mouth, though she really should have. She was just so used to saying whatever came to mind, always merrily, with no regrets whatsoever. "Whatever you want." Except her Pokémon and Little Thief, even if she trusted him to watch them. But she didn't think Johan would ask for that, anyway.
no subject
... Still, he couldn't exactly let this chance slip him by, could he? Even if, as far as he knew, he didn't want anything from her, he could still do something with it, right? Surely, in all his experience and wisdom, there was something he could think of.
"Whatever I want?" Johan repeated quietly, testing the words. Most boys, with that kind of option, surely would go for something perverted or dangerous, even if they didn't expect it to happen. Johan, on the other hand, well, those kinds of thoughts, in all his wandering mind, didn't even come up. Instead, he smiled a lazy smile up at a star that had begun to twinkle at him - at the two of them, maybe? - and shook his head a little. "I've got everything I want from you right now, I think."
... He'd meant to word that better, really he had, but once again, there was nothing to be done about it now.
no subject
"I'm not doing anything right now," she said after a moment, clearly not sure what he'd meant, but still a little too drowsy to go into type of histrionics or gesturing. "I didn't even pull off any good speeches..."
no subject
... The mood? What did that even-- What did that even mean?
Blinking that thought aware, Johan just shook his head, finally settling on a thought that he deemed an appropriate response. After everything they'd talked about, even without the odd things he'd been feeling, it still would have rung as true. "You're here, aren't you?"
no subject
Kay tipped her head up slightly, only enough to look Johan in the eye. "So are you." And just saying that and it being true seemed to bring her a very content smile.
no subject
He eventually settled for not responding at all, not with words at least, instead choosing to give her a simple, content smile of his own.
no subject
And hey, this happened in the movies, only this wasn't a movie, and Kay was neither a swooning love interest or a... well, she wasn't like the majority of movie heroines anyway. However, there was a tiny spark of mischief in her eyes, and she was close enough that it didn't take much effort to lean closer and--
... plant a kiss on Johan's cheek.
Almost immediately, she dropped her head back down, not at all flushed or embarrassed-looking, but rather pleased that she'd done at least one part of the date right... in her own special way. But she wasn't finished, if that playful smile of hers was any indication.
"Well, I had to steal at least one thing before the night ended, or I wouldn't be much of a thief."
