Can you tell from the air?

*because he's not actually sure HE can, not having traveled that way before now....*

Not very well. [He usually picks a spot from the air when he's flying somewhere, but...

He stands.]

I guess we'll look from the ground.

*nods*

Then we can forage and let the team exercise as we go.

*because like Apollo, he's not really in the habit of keeping them in their balls more than necessary...*

[He nods back and starts walking, mentally calling out to his team to let them know he's moving. With him on this trip are Fearow, Furret, Sawsbuck, Golurk (who's making a beeline for Apollo so it can get back in its ball), Zangoose, and Archeops (Who seems to be under the impression that she'll be able to accomplish something in the gym battle. Even though Apollo's trying to be firmer with her she still isn't listening to him, but then again this is Apollo we're talking about so he can still dial up the firmness quite a bit before he can say it isn't working.).]

What do you usually look for in a good place to sleep?

[Because Geddoe has more experience doing this than him.]

*with Geddoe on this trip is Queen, Sana, Ace, Wyatt, Aila, and Hugo. other than Queen, who nearly always sticks by Geddoe's side, they're all pretty content to wander about as they please*

Shelter. Something that blocks the wind at least, though a cave or hollow that protects from any weather is better.

[Furret generally sticks close to Apollo, and Golurk of course is too shy to stay out of its ball much, but the others are wandering around too, mostly looking for wild Pokémon to battle.]

I haven't seen very many caves here. There are hollows and hills in a bunch of places though, and there are always trees and bushes if we can't find anything else.

*nods*

*he's definitely keeping an eye out, especially for anything up ahead and therefore not out of their way*

[Apollo nods too and falls into step beside Geddoe on the side with the eyepatch, though that wasn't anything that he'd specifically planned. He'll keep an eye out too, especially for anything vaguely cave-like, as unlikely as it is that they'll find one. He associates caves with safety, since he's lived in one all his life.]

*has traveled enough to have a pretty good idea what he's looking for, himself, and having pokemon handy means he can send Ace ahead to scout out any likely-looking spots, too*

[Apollo tries to look for good spots, and eventually points to one that Geddoe has probably already seen and decided yea or nay on.]

What about there?

*takes a minute to glance over where Apollo's pointing*

Not bad, but it looks like there's a better one further on.

*because much as he insisted on taking the time to look, he sees no reason not to cover as much ground as possible even so*

Hm.

[He keeps watching as they walk. After a while he points again.]

Do you mean there?

*nods*

Yeah.

*....he'll let you figure out what's so special about it, if you don't outright ask, though*

[He can see that it's an improvement over the previous one, but not why it was worth their taking the extra time to walk to it if Geddoe wanted to stop so soon.

Once they're there, he starts clearing a space for a fire. He knows about fire safety, so he can at least pick the best location for it, even if he can't necessarily pick the best camp site.]

*well, since Apollo's got that covered, Geddoe will see about acquiring something to eat, since foraging more means relying on rations less*

[Foraging in Johto is an exercise in disappointment, really, considering that there isn't enough food to be able to avoid bringing your own. Anything's better than nothing though.

Apollo can easily start a fire on his own, but Furret volunteers to use Flamethrower to light a branch so he can start it faster. He still has to go through the process of building it up, but at least he doesn't have to baby along a spark at the beginning. Teamwork!]

*having a whole team of pokemon help search doesn't hurt, either, so they'll probably have at least something to show for their efforts.

Of course, Geddoe isn't much for conversation, so once he's back he'll probably go straight to preparing dinner if Apollo doesn't have anything much to say...*

[No, Apollo has nothing to say at the moment either. Once he gets the fire going properly he'll pull a big vacuum-sealed steak out of his bag, take off the wrapping, put it on a stick, and prop it up over the fire to cook. Two raw ones go to Furret and Zangoose, while Sawsbuck forages for himself. The packaging all goes in the box from Mom's bento to be disposed of properly once they reach town. Thanks to Archeops, her and Fearow go off to get their own meat. Apollo's been having some success getting the carnivores among his team to overcome their strange resistance to hunting, but when they're traveling they don't have the time to track anything down, thus the packaged meat.

This is Apollo making dinner. "Fancy" isn't a word in his vocabulary.]

*that's fine, Geddoe's not big on the "fancy" himself, though he might offer some advice/suggestions if he sees something Apollo could be doing better with the cooking*

[The only potentially objectionable thing that Apollo's doing is not doing anything objectionable. There is absolutely no way that his cooking could be made any simpler.

Perhaps the fact that he's not cooking anything for Geddoe could be objected to, but I doubt that either of them were expecting the other to cook for them.]

*yeah, Geddoe's fine with fending for himself, and since they have a little time before sundown, once some food's been seen to he'll use it to spend some time training with his team*

[Before Apollo eats, he closes his eyes, bows his head, and clasps his hands, the fingers of his right hand wrapping around the outside of his left hand and the fingers of his left hand wrapping around the thumb side of his right hand, his thumbs crossed and facing his chest. Furret and Zangoose imitate him for a few moments, but their doing so looks more like they're only copying Apollo, whereas Apollo holds the pose for longer before he starts to eat and seems more solemn and genuine about whatever it is that he's doing.

Normally after eating he would lie down and fall asleep, but he ate earlier than usual and the sun hasn't completely set yet, so instead he sits and watches Geddoe and his team train. Furret curls up next to him and watches too, Sawsbuck wanders off into the forest to see if there are any wild encounters to be had before he sleeps, and Zangoose asks the weaker members of Geddoe's team if they'd like to train with her. Probably two- or three-on-one, considering that she's around 20 levels higher than them.]

*Geddoe notices Apollo's gesture, but he's seen all kinds of different little traditions people have, so he doesn't really take all that much notice.

And Aila and Hugo at least are more than happy to have some extra sparring time when Geddoe's not working with them! In fact, having a much stronger opponent is more just an added challenge than anything...*

[Then sparring there shall be! While Apollo watches and goes "..." like a master.

Times that the mun wishes Apollo was more sociable, #12000.]

*hey, not like Geddoe's a whole lot better. But in any case once things are done/there's no longer any light to see by there's no much for it but calling it a night, huh*
