A: Team Rocket base, Goldenrod City
[Waking up in a tiny room with no windows was not a welcome surprise. What was a welcome surprise was that this wasn't Hope's Peak Academy, the school Mondo and his classmates had been locked up in for several days.

He's read the note, studied the PokéGear, and released his Pokémon from their Pokéballs, so he's got a little lizard and a small dog keeping pace with him as he explores the training room. He's not in uniform, however, and has no intention of returning to his room to change.]

B: Goldenrod City
[Look out, there's a Scraggy on the loose! She's giggling and dashing away from her trainer, who looks infuriated. She'll just be weaving her way around people to attempt to escape capture, and it seems like it hasn't occurred to Mondo to just return her.]

Get back here, you bastard!! I swear, when I catch you I'm gonna fucking--!!

[Well whatever it was he was going to do gets cut off when the lizard whips around and launches a Headbutt attack, smacking into Mondo's kneecap. Thankfully she's a low level and not aiming to deal heavy damage, so it only drops him to his other knee, wincing and shrieking after the lizard as she runs off, still giggling.]

Fuck!! Bastard, I'll kill you!!

[OK...might be time to back out soon. But he could at least provide a name to someone who was being polite (even if his sanity was in question).]

[A pause, and then he quickly adds: ]

It's my name.

...Your name is Rude?

[Well that's... certainly a strange name...]

Yeah, I just arrived. I was going to explore around the city, but then that lizard ran off. Are you from around here?

[That's the most honest answer he can give the guy. And honestly? He's just realised something. From what he's been reading in the past few Pokegear entries, most people don't appear in Goldonrod City. They appear in another town, New Bark something.

When this kid says he arrived here, does that mean he suddenly appeared here, or did he travel all the way from New Bark?]

This city's where you started?

[Guess who hasn't bothered looking at the PokéGear? This guy!]

Yeah. I just showed up here not all that long ago.

[He is smart enough not to mention the organization; he's heard that he'll get thrown in jail if he goes against them and he really doesn't want that to happen.]

[Rude fixes the kid with a more serious gaze and speaks quietly, out of the ear shot of anyone else around.]

Most people don't start here; they start in New Bark town.

[It's more conjuncture, of putting one and one together and perhaps it's even a little gamble, but if it went wrong he could just pretend he was making a wild guess.]

You're Rocket.

[Ah, do they? Well that's certainly news. Mondo looks startled at the statement, but he's quick to compose himself.]

Yeah? And if I am? You gonna report me to the authorities?

[At least he's managing to keep his voice down.]

No.

But you've got to be more careful. Don't blow your cover.

And keep your cool.

[All standard procedures when it comes to Turk infiltration.]

[Mondo is silent for a moment, obviously surprised by that.]

You're one of them too?

[Given how calm this guy is acting about it, he really wouldn't be surprised.]

[Rude doesn't give him an answer, but his lack of an answer should confirm it. And if they're both new Rockets, then Rude's probably going to see him at HQ when they undergo their mandatory training.

At any rate, two guys talking quietly to each other in broad daylight is suspicious enough. Some people are giving them quizzical looks, so it might be time to his leave.]
