With the perky new song singing about the city, the summer Bug-Catching contest is back on in full force! With everything that's been going on lately, it's high time they start some for-fun things to do. So, mid-afternoon on Thursday, they gather the participants. After the participants check their other pokémon in at the front, they're all asked to line up in the front. From there, one park official reads the rules while another passes out twenty sport balls. Then once everything's settled, they're just about ready to go!

Hehe, yeah, but I'm just here for fun and to see what kind of Pokemon I can catch! I didn't see a lot of Bug types on my way over, so I'm making by catching some bugs!

Hehe, yeah! Smart planning; they'll really help when we're in Kanto and have to take on one of the Gyms. One of them uses Psychic Pokemon, and Twilight said Bug Pokemon are supposed to be really good against Psychic types.

(She's in it to win it, but even if she doesn't win she'll just try next time.)

I don't have to worry about Psychic types so much, I have plenty of Dark types to go around it seems, although it would be bad if any Psychic type happened to know a move that Dark types are weak to...

But! Besides that--[ta-daaaa! It's a Hive badge she has now!] Fighting Bugsy made me a little curious about the different types of bugs that are around too.

Really? Sweet! Most of my Pokemon know a few Dark type moves themselves, but it'd be nice to have a backup just in case the Pokemon you pick is KO'd mid-battle.

(Rainbow can totally strategize, but she usually leaves that up to Twilight.)

You've got the Hive badge too? Awesome! I figure after I get used to being back in Goldenrod I'll take on Whitney and finally get her badge. (Give her a few hours of travel and a day's worth of rest, she'll go to challenge Bugsy and then Falkner before flying back.) Wanna come watch me battle? I'll make sure to watch your Gym battle, too!

Sure! I'll come watch, it could be really fun! [No word on her own Gym battle, tho, she doesn't want to make a big deal out of it when it happens.] I hear Whitney's pretty tough, but a sore loser...maybe I'll bring something to comfort her when you win. [Like a cute Clefairy doll or something.]

Of course it'll be fun! (She nods, having heard the exact same about Whitney herself.) Yeah, she must be if she's a Gym Leader. Only problem comes is when you beat her...that'd be pretty cool! Everypony should get something nice even if they lose. (Rainbow will make sure not to fall under that category.)

Mm! [She nods herself.] Losing isn't easy sometimes, and I'm pretty sure having someone demand a prize from you right afterward is not that fun either. Be sure to let me know whenever you plan to challenge her, I'll buy something at work to bring over. There are a lot of cute dolls in the department I work in.

Mm! (She hasn't done this since becoming human, but...fist bump!) You let me know when you challenge her too, alright? Not everyday I get to see your awesomeness live, and if she cries after you beat her too...maybe we can take her shopping? (Shopping isn't usually the top thing on Rainbow's list of things to do, but some of her other friends -Rarity- might find it enjoyable.)

[Maka has to blush a little at "your awesomeness" but she's not going to let herself be too modest, that's about the opposite of having confidence!]

I will, don't worry about that! I just hope my battle with her ends up being entertaining. We'll see if she'd want to go shopping, or brainstorm some other things.

After seeing your other battles, I'm sure it'll be no problem! (Especially since Rainbow had to learn about modesty the hard way, in a way.)

Yeah, we'll brainstorm other things afterward. Any plans for after the contest and the Gym battle?

Hmm, I wasn't thinking that far ahead! If I do manage to beat Whitney, I'd probably move on to the next town to get the badge there. But I bought some eggs, so I think I'll be focusing on taking care of them when they hatch before then.

[Maka is secretly a giant eggmother.]

Sweet! (Rainbow takes a moment to showcase to Maka -ta-da! Instant Fog Badge- the prize she'll receive from Ecruteak's Gym Leader should she win.) The next town after Goldenrod is Ecruteak, and the Gym Leader there's nuts about Ghost-types. Better have a well-placed strategy to beat him first, or make sure your team's got higher levels.

The others are still in Cianwood, which is where you go after Ecruteak, so if I've gotten back to them by the time you get there, or even if you decide to head onto Olivine which is after Cianwood...we'd be in the area if you wanted to travel with us.

(Rainbow's pretty sure the others wouldn't mind having another non-pony in the group. And she actually studied a bit on the Johto region!)

Wow, it'd be cool to travel with you guys...I've been going solo ever since my journey started.

Hey, yeah! You already know Twilight and some of the others, right? We'll do anything for our friends, and if you're traveling alone...we have to make sure you don't travel alone anymore.

(Plus, with Maka in the group she can totally translate everything Twilight says so she'll be able to get it!)

You're my friend, Maka...I said I wouldn't leave you hanging when your journey started, and I meant it.

Heh, yep! I've talked to Rarity and Twilight before, and I am seeing a pink-haired girl around here...she might be with you guys, considering--[she makes a gesture at RD's hair. She's just teasing, really.]

No, but really, I'm honored that I've been able to make such good friends in this world, especially considering I'm on my own. I'm grateful.

(She blinks a moment as she motions to her own hair before laughing; if she can handle Twilight's teasing, Maka's will be no sweat!) Hahaha, you met up with Pinkie Pie already? Yeah, she's with us and totally random! You'll like her a lot.

So am I! I'm glad I met up with my friends from home, but making friends in this world has been really cool. (She doesn't do this much, and she's grateful it's only the two of them and their Pokemon around but...Maka, Rainbow will glance around for a moment before pulling you into a hug.)

[She doesn't freeze up like most others would, but she does jolt a little before returning the hug herself, warmly and with a not insignificant amount of gratitude for the affection.

Little known fact about Maka, she's actually a fairly physical person, this includes affectionate (but friendly) gestures like hugging or holding hands.]

I'm pretty sure I'd like any friend of yours, Rainbow. I mean, if they're your friend, they'd have to be cool, right?

(Rainbow totally doesn't mind affectionate -friendly- gestures from Maka! Still, she thinks about her rep as evidenced by her briefly looking around before said hug, even though she technically doesn't need to worry about said rep.
