Ain't no party like a ninja party

Who: open to literally anyone in Blackthorn City who wanders into the ninja party + friends
Where: Blackthorn City (mainly hotsprings but also anywhere)
When: July 23rd
Summary: Sasuke gets a birthday party whether he wants one or not. Lucky for him, he has friends (in spite of his best efforts) who'll plan one.
Rating: G? PG for violence

[ooc; general mingle log for Blackthorn City/Sasuke's birthday. Most of it will probably take place at the hotsprings itself, though like the 'who' says, it's completely open to anyone just walking by and wondering what the big deal is, or someone who's already there and then has their pleasant soak interrupted by a bunch of dumb ninjas.]

[Tenten huffs with annoyance and puts both hands on her hips. Way to go, mentioning one of the things that annoys her the most.]

When I first got here, it was really only Sasuke. [Obito's not important.] And I had to travel all the way to damn Goldenrod before anyone thought to pick me up, and that was because Sasuke wanted to go to Riku's birthday party. Hmph!

Well a number of us are used to traveling in the wild, but maybe the excitement to see them face-to-face in a non-war environment...

[ Wait, she stops herself there. Of course Tenten might not understand that urge seeing as she's much younger. Good going, Sakura. ]

Er, well maybe we should stop. It'd be difficult to convince others like Naruto to do that though.

[She goes quiet at the mention of the war. Even if it's nothing she's even close to experiencing, she's heard enough about it from Shino and the others to understand -- or think she does, anyway.]

...Even still, it's better for them if they move on their own first. Like, I banded together with Joonhee-niisan, and learned a lot more about this world than I would have if I'd just been hauled up on the back of a bird and flown to another city without getting any personal experience first.

[ A thoughtful pause, then: ] Most things can be figured out about this world once someone learns to use the PokeGear. A lot of the information can be linked to a message and forwarded to others.

[ The terms are new to her, but have been explained thoroughly. ] That means so long as people take their time to explain things, anyone can be placed on the same level as an experienced trainer.

The large groups though... I think they make traveling harder than it needs to be.

Yeah, but then we're isolated, too.

[She rests a hand on her hip and exhales through her nose, brow furrowing.]

I think one of my biggest strengths here is that no matter what city I go to, I'll know someone there. Don't get me wrong, the information is useful, but I think the connections are even more important. It's different from home in that way.

[But she just exhales again with a sigh and a rueful smile.]

But I'll agree with you about the large group, it is pretty hectic. At this point though, Neji's my constant shadow no matter where I go, so it's no like I'm ever alone anymore.

It isn't that bad to have a shadow. [ Seeing as she refuses to leave the side of a certain person who has a number of his own shadows and all that. ] Having someone to watch your back--that's good no matter what.

Connections... Isn't it strange that everyone is so intent on getting to know each other? I have a lot of trouble with it myself to be honest. Most of the people my age have never spent time outdoors so we have trouble relating.

It must be nice to be so popular here, huh? [ Unlike in canon. ~~WHY~~ ]

[She's not really willing to badmouth her teammate in front of someone else, though, so she just shakes her head. If she knew exactly what point Neji came from, maybe she'd be more forgiving, but for now, it's just too difficult to reconcile the little shit she knew from home with this guy here now.]

But I wouldn't say it's strange. [She shakes her head once, gesturing with one hand as if to flick away the thought.] It's making use of resources, right? We don't have a whole village to back us up this time. Just smile, look cute, ask questions, and people'll be more than happy to help. It's how I get all my intel, after all.

What're you talking about, never spending time outdoors? What's that got to do with anything?

[ It means she ends up being condescending without meaning to. ]

Er, well you know a lot of these people have never left their hometown before. Traveling is new to them, so they really don't like to discuss it. They just rather have everything handed to them and that's difficult to wrap my head around. I'm fortunate to get to travel with Naruto, but if they left me to fend for myself...

[ There would be a lot of backtracking as well as additional training. Her team's hardly worth calling a team, compiled of Pokemon she feels are suitable for supporting others as well as beneficial to her research. ]

Guess I'm getting sloppy here. Smile, look cute... ha, is that really how it's done?

Well, yeah, that can be pretty frustrating. I tend to ignore those people, myself.

[Seriously, ain't nobody got time for people who can't even try to take care of themselves.]

I don't know if it's sloppy... you're lucky, having your teammate here to start with. If it'd been me and my teammates, well...

[A sheepish grin. All three of them probably would have slogged through the whole region punching Pokémon in the face for taijutsu training.]

It'd be different.

[ Sakura knows that much. She's met a number of people here who have never seen anyone else from home arrive here so to have someone she's very familiar with nearby? It puts her mind at ease so she hopes the same goes for Tenten. ]

Would it? Don't tell me you three would end up in trouble all the time.

Trouble's kind of a strong word. Let's just say that if it hadn't been Sasuke who taught me how to do things in this world, me and Lee and Neji would probably have figured that the only way to travel was to knock out the other Pokémon ourselves.

...So kind of what Neji's doing right now, actually.

Is that really what he's doing?

[ Not that she can blame him. Had no one told her it was against the law, punching Pokemon as she carries herself along would have been the likely outcome. ]

It'd be funny to see that at a gym admittedly. Er, funny until someone got hurt, that is.

It'd be a good lesson for him. Too bad he's already seen some of my Gym battles, so I'm pretty sure he's got the hint about how he's supposed to battle. He just doesn't.

[Sigh!]

He's going to have to do it sooner or later. What's the problem--does he not trust Pokemon or something?

I think he gets frustrated at how weak they are when they're lower levels. Kind of an, 'if you're not going to do it right, I'll do it myself' kind of thing. That, at least, is the same as I remember.

Why doesn't someone loan him a high level Pokemon then? Surely we've got a number of them and if not, there's that foster place he could adopt from.

Oh, I've tried. All he does is spar hand-to-hand with my higher-level ones instead of working with them against other Pokémon! Which, don't get me wrong, is a useful skill, but come on>

Some habits are harder to break for others.

He isn't doing anything to break the law, is he? So long as he doesn't get caught, it should be alright. Guess there's the concern of him getting attacked by a high level Pokemon without one to defend him, but... Well, he's bright. I trust he'd find his way out of the situation.

Unless there's a law again punching Pokémon who attack you, not that I know of.

[A sigh.]

He follows me around everywhere anyway, so if it comes down to that, one of my level a-hundreds can take care of it.

Everywhere? [ No, don't answer that. ]

I should ask around for what the real laws of this place are and which ones have a gray area we can dip into. Maybe that can be in my next call...

That's a great idea, though! You'll definitely have to let me know how it goes. I just know that having any kind of weapon is illegal. Which sucks.

We just have to think of convenient weapons that aren't weapons.

Don't worry, I'll come up with a list for you. [ Laughing lightly. She knows how Tenten gets when it comes to weapons. ] Isn't that what everyone else is doing?

Chopsticks. Spoons. Pencils. Pokémon. Cooking knives. Paperclips. Rocks. Bags. There's lots of them if you're able to improvise!

[Someone looks strangely intense as she starts listing off weapons. Once a member of Team Gai...]

But yeah, most of those are probably only good for one hit unless you find that gray area.

[ That laughter is turning into a nervous one by the second. ]

Only good for one hit? Is it because they break or something else?

'Cause they break. And I bet if it's anything like what happened in Olivine that one time, the enemy'd report it to the police and then they'd confiscate it.

[Imagine how annoying that would be, if chopsticks were suddenly banned for being weapons!]
