THIS DISH IS ONIXCEPTABLE
WHO: Anyone (tag yourself in)
WHERE: Fuchsia City
WHEN: August 10
SUMMARY: Mingle log for the cook off!
RATING: PG13, will edit in any warnings
LOG:
Fuchsia may be used to this kind of attention due to the ever so popular attractions they have there, but after people have been shuffled in from all parts of the world, its likely more noticeable for the natives. There are several tables set out and decorated in the various manner by whoever is borrowing them for the day as well as different areas set up to provide shade. A little bit away from the main crowd is a clear with sprinklers and other toys (water balloons, squirt bottles, etc) meant to harass those who need to cool down just a bit. Don't worry, admission is free and everyone is allowed to chow down provided you're on good terms with whichever table you visit.
Make your own threads and just mingle around. Voting will take place in this thread for the two competitions. Due to it being a con weekend and school preparations, winners will be decided/rewarded later on in the week.

ENTRY: ARADIA MEGIDO (CHOCOLATES)
WRONG.
Aradia is perfectly good with following directions/recipes. This is true. But for her entry, she decided it would be "fun" to experiment! And since she wanted to make chocolates, she experimented with those. In this case "experiment" means "throw in anything she likes".
So on a red plate, neatly arranged, are some pretty questionably lumpy looking chocolates. There are a bunch of weird things to be found in them, from gummy candies to caramels to bits of fruit. Some of these things might be okay alone, but they are just a little...too much. Chocolates range from too bitter to too sweet to sort of dusty tasting, and all of them are weirdly lumpy and textured and uh yeah.
Why would you vote for this? Are you insane? Do you like weird foods? Are you emotionally compromised or something, these are objectively horrible in every possible way. They even LOOK terrible.
She is so proud of herself right now though.
entry: john egbert (cake pops)
Screw boxed cake mix though, that stuff is still basically the devil. If you're going to bake, you better make that stuff from scratch, which is exactly what John did.
Though, admittedly, he might have gone a little overboard with this. Arranged on a plain white stand are about fifty cake pops, which have been decorated with various candies to look like various round or cylindrical Pokémon. There are five of each: Poliwag, Natu, Jigglypuff, Munna, Oddish, Jigglypuff, Litwick, Drifloon, Azurill, and Omanyte. The cake itself is a rich chocolate-vanilla marble, dipped in various colors of chocolate bark (which tastes like white chocolate no matter what color it is because food dye) and then decorated accordingly.
The question here is: can you actually stand to bite into these adorable confections?
OFFICIAL JUDGE VOTE/COMMENTS
Actually, if he isn't stopped he may try to eat a good chunk of the 50...
★★★★★
A full five stars! And his vote for the ~winning entry~.
entry: lancer (irish stew and no one was surprised)
Lancer, on the other end of the culinary spectrum, had been hard at work on an ancient and delicious dish comprised mainly of lamb, potatoes and carrots. It was probably a little too hot outside for that, he realized in hindsight, but oh well. He could cook and do it pretty damn well by his country's
(limited)standards, so that's exactly what Lancer did.As much of a screwup as he could be in literally every other aspect, it would be pretty hard to say he'd fallen flat in this case.
OFFICIAL JUDGE COMMENTS
★★★★☆
It has a good taste and presentation, but...for this hot weather, stew isn't really the thing! Perhaps in winter months he'd give it another star...

ENTRY: MITSUKUNI HANINOZUKA (SWEET STRAWBERRY POFFINS)
He does all of his own cooking these days for himself and his pokemon, and specializes in sweet things, so this is a lot better than another Lucy character's entry.

Since this is a contest where he gets to eat and taste food and it's an event, Honey is pretty darn cheerful.
Besides, Kaoru was planning to join him for a Host Club Reunion! And several people he knows are going, so...Feel free to find him at the judging table and/or mingling at various booths.
He also will join in the clearing with squirt guns and water balloons eventually. Look out: while he's cute and tiny, he's got deadly aim and speed.
And in addition to all that, Honey actually entered some poffins in the pokemon-judged contest. ]

When she's not there, she can be found visiting other booths or, after a while, joining in any ongoing water fights because why not. For the heat she'll have jean shorts and a glaringly red ledyba-patterned tank top. And a braid, courtesy Kanaya. THANKS, KANAYA.
She also enters the food contest with some really questionable chocolates. ]

[But that's not right now. That is the past and right now is the food festival itself and John is glancing down at Aradia's entry with a raised eyebrow.]
Chocolates, huh? After all the baking tips I gave you, you went with chocolates. So offended right now, wow.
[Only he's trying very hard not to laugh and mostly failing at that so it's obvious that he's not actually offended at all. Though... okay, these are some really, really iffy looking chocolates. But maybe this is one of those cases where the food tastes better than it looks?]
no subject
And yes, chocolates. Aradia beams at John, cheerfully. ]
Well, I didn't want to copy your recipes for this! After all, it's a contest - wouldn't that be unfair? So I went with my very own recipe!
[ No, John. This is not one of those times. ]
no subject
[No, surely, it must be. John has faith in his friends.]
no subject
[ John, you shouldn't. ...Though she does pause. ]
Oh, no peanuts, though, if that's what you're asking.
no subject
[He really doesn't want to make a trip to the hospital, after all.]
Alright then. Here goes.
[After a moment's deliberation, John takes a fair-sized and particularly lumpy chocolate. Before he can so much as swallow it, his eyes widen and his entire body seems to freeze up.]
Hrk...! [Okay so normally he likes gummies! Gummies are pretty okay as far as sweet things go! And caramel isn't half bad either but together... not so much. And god how much sugar did she even put into the mix for the chocolate itself? John is pretty sure that he just got either diabetes or a cavity just from eating half of this chocolate. But is that going to stop him from eating the rest of it? Of course not.]
[Just... give him a second to actually swallow that first bite. And try to arrange his face into a more neutral expression. This... mostly works. Though that smile does seem oddly stretched.]
It's... sweet!
[Okay that's not... a total lie. And really, these aren't as bad as they could be. They're merely violently assaulting his tastebuds (which aren't overly fond of sweet things to begin with) instead of horribly maiming and/or killing them. Somehow, John manages to finish the other half of the chocolate.]
[NOBODY CAN EVER TRY AND CLAIM THAT JOHN EGBERT ISN'T A SUPPORTIVE FRIEND. NO SIR. HE CAN'T WAIT TO BE A WONDERFUL FRIEND AND FALL DOWN ALL THIS SUPPORT!!!!!]
no subject
THIS SUPPORT, IT'S SO SUPPORTIVE.
But really he probably just gave himself a cavity... ]
You think so??? I've been working on the recipe all week!!!
[ she should never experiment ever ]
no subject
[Oh jeez and she looks so damn happy about it. Fuck. That just makes breaking the truth even harder, he's not sure if he can do it.]
Um...though it might. Maybe, possibly be just a bit...overpoweringly so. Just as a bit of constructive criticism! Next time maybe just...a little bit...less sweet. But you did good!
no subject
[ ...Luckily her self esteem is not made of spun sugar or fragile glass, but she frowns down at the treats. THE EXPERIMENT...WAS A FAILURE? ]
no subject
[But only kind of.]
no subject
No, Aradia just continues looking at her experiments. ]
...Maybe I should have made someone taste-test.
no subject
...did you...at least taste-test them yourself?
[Aradia.............]
no subject
Well, I wanted it to be a surprise!
[ n o p e ]

[This explains. So much...]
I...see. Well, I can say that it was...definitely a surprise! You definitely succeeded on that front. With flying colors.

Nah, don't worry about it! It's all good. I mean I'm still standing, right? No peanuts, no harm done.

[ she's never...asked.
Obviously peanut butter, but. ]
no subject
[And with as bad as his allergies are...that can be enough.]
Chinese food usually has a lot of peanut oil in it so I have to be careful with takeout. Same with Mexican food, actually. Basically I just have to read labels carefully and ask at restaurants and stuff. [He shrugs.] It's a big part of the reason I do a lot of my own cooking, since it's just easier to be sure that way. It was the same way back home. Dad and I didn't eat out a whole lot.
no subject
[ THAT MAKES NO SENSE, ARADIA, BUT MOVING...ON............. ]
That's a lot of things! I've never had anything I can't eat - even this body doesn't seem to have anything it can't eat? Except, well, metal and silly things like that - but that makes sense. You like cooking, though, don't you?
no subject
Plus it makes other people happy so what's not to like?
no subject
[ ...well, Sollux didn't really but his idea of nutrition hadn't been acceptable so that was why. ]
no subject
[A distance away and surely completely unrelated is the individual in a slightly charred and battered apron, quite busy cutting up vegetables and whistling cheerfully.]
