[ Needless to say, Naegi didn't expect any of this; who would expect finding a key and a note that indicated that an entire house had been left to Asahina - who wasn't with them anymore. Still, a house is a house and winter is drawing closer with each passing day and it would be nice to stay somewhere that isn't an inn or hotel room. Naegi's not going to look this gift Ponyta in the mouth.

Kirigiri and Naegi are the first to go there, to make sure it isn't some sort of trick or scam before informing the others. It looks nice despite the busted window on the first floor and the...door seems to have been left wide open.

Better start investigating, then. ]

[ Some time later, Naegi's encountered at least twenty-four Eeveelutions, a ton of food and pillows scattered all over the floor and he's concluded that no, it's not a trap. It just hasn't been taken care of and has been ruled by the Eevee Kingdom for some time. So he sends out the following text to the others: ]

Guys, I have good news! Come to the following address when you can, all right? It's the house next to the breeding center so it should be easy to find.

[ Pretend the address is included. :| Shortly afterwards, a second text message is sent out: ]

By the way, it's Kirigiri-san's birthday today.

[ ...Naegi has no idea why he knows this. He's pretty sure she hasn't mentioned it. At any rate, by the time the others get there there will pizza, cake and party hats but not much else because there's only so much you can do when you just remembered her birthday. Here's hoping the Eevees won't eat everything the second you turn around.

[Togami pushes his glasses up the bridge of his nose, setting his book down on the corner of the pool table - he's not interrupting play, it makes no difference - while he casually moves one of the few chairs in the room up closer to the fireplace. It's not lit, but it's not cold enough to warrant lighting yet (and anyway, unless someone is a SHSL Chimney Sweep without telling anyone they should probably hire someone to come make sure the fireplace is sound enough for fire), he just wants to be able to not have to look at anyone else who might be in the room.]

I know straight line and three cushion billiards, and used to be able to perform 60 of the artistic billiards shots. I haven't played anything other than four-ball in years.

And of course, I've never played on a pocket billiards table.

[Which is to say, Pool is beneath him, but Billiards is a gentleman's sport.]

I have, at least as far as the downstairs and the basement go! And I've been compiling a mental list of what needs to be done and the most efficient way to do it - however, the current residents have made it difficult to see the upstairs without...

...disturbing them, though that will be taken care of soon enough as well!

[...huh. Well, that's certainly unexpected, but then, a lot of things with Togami tend to be; in all blunt honesty, Ishimaru has never really known what to do with him. There's a sort of closeness that he's experienced with most of the other students - not all, as there are some who just aren't prone to that sort of thing, but with the majority of them there's at least a sense of knowing them somehow, and it's easy to forget exactly how little time he's actually spent with them. Togami is a major exception to that; he's difficult to read at best, and at worst he's...well, he's obnoxious and if eyerolling weren't such a bad habit to get into whenever someone says something he didn't like, Ishimaru would be doing it at half the things Togami says.

But for the time being the conversation is civil, if a bit strange, and Ishimaru is content to let him mess with the chairs if it means that things will stay that way.]

Maybe we could play sometime, then.

[The invitation is straightforward enough, one of those things that would have been fine were it not for the near-audible record scratch that fires off in Ishimaru's brain immediately afterwards.]

Obviously we have other priorities for the time being - but once those have been dealt with, if you wouldn't mind.

I found the previous owner's diary. That should be useful to us as we start to sort things out.

The owner wrote that it was mostly visitors; apparently it's their habit to lie in wait in the study and ambush anyone who tries to come through the front door. The prose is fairly terrible, but there were plenty of thorough descriptions of the cacophony of toenails skittering across the kitchen floor and so on.

Supposedly that habit is also why some of them are wearing collars. It was the only way the owner could tell them apart.

Are we supposed to just allow them to do that?! It implies poor training and discipline, if nothing else - it reflects badly!

[APPARENTLY SO. Meanwhile, she'll just be digging in her pocket to produce a brown fabric journal with the covers worn smooth from obvious use, and flipping open to a page near the back without preamble, which she shows to him.]

He drew a tree diagram. These are their relations, plus names, and the corresponding color of their collars.

Mmhmm. I haven't finished with all of it yet. Some of the entries were opened and reopened more than others, though, so those were the ones I looked at first. Those were the ones about the Eevees and the finances, mainly.
