Summary: Naegi finds out they have a house. Also it's Kirigiri's birthday. General house/birthday shenanigans happen.

[ Needless to say, Naegi didn't expect any of this; who would expect finding a key and a note that indicated that an entire house had been left to Asahina - who wasn't with them anymore. Still, a house is a house and winter is drawing closer with each passing day and it would be nice to stay somewhere that isn't an inn or hotel room. Naegi's not going to look this gift Ponyta in the mouth.

Kirigiri and Naegi are the first to go there, to make sure it isn't some sort of trick or scam before informing the others. It looks nice despite the busted window on the first floor and the...door seems to have been left wide open.

Better start investigating, then. ]

[ Some time later, Naegi's encountered at least twenty-four Eeveelutions, a ton of food and pillows scattered all over the floor and he's concluded that no, it's not a trap. It just hasn't been taken care of and has been ruled by the Eevee Kingdom for some time. So he sends out the following text to the others: ]

Guys, I have good news! Come to the following address when you can, all right? It's the house next to the breeding center so it should be easy to find.

[ Pretend the address is included. :| Shortly afterwards, a second text message is sent out: ]

By the way, it's Kirigiri-san's birthday today.

[ ...Naegi has no idea why he knows this. He's pretty sure she hasn't mentioned it. At any rate, by the time the others get there there will pizza, cake and party hats but not much else because there's only so much you can do when you just remembered her birthday. Here's hoping the Eevees won't eat everything the second you turn around.

I have, at least as far as the downstairs and the basement go! And I've been compiling a mental list of what needs to be done and the most efficient way to do it - however, the current residents have made it difficult to see the upstairs without...

I found the previous owner's diary. That should be useful to us as we start to sort things out.

Be careful of the collarless Espeon. She seems to be the ringleader.

They're a family — one spanning five generations. The Espeon is the mother.

The owner wrote that it was mostly visitors; apparently it's their habit to lie in wait in the study and ambush anyone who tries to come through the front door. The prose is fairly terrible, but there were plenty of thorough descriptions of the cacophony of toenails skittering across the kitchen floor and so on.

Supposedly that habit is also why some of them are wearing collars. It was the only way the owner could tell them apart.

Are we supposed to just allow them to do that?! It implies poor training and discipline, if nothing else - it reflects badly!

Are you going to train them? There are twenty-eight in all.

Of course - it'll be difficult, but it's possible!

[APPARENTLY SO. Meanwhile, she'll just be digging in her pocket to produce a brown fabric journal with the covers worn smooth from obvious use, and flipping open to a page near the back without preamble, which she shows to him.]

He drew a tree diagram. These are their relations, plus names, and the corresponding color of their collars.

I'll have to borrow it and copy it down; I'm guessing there are still things in there that you'll want to look at.

Mmhmm. I haven't finished with all of it yet. Some of the entries were opened and reopened more than others, though, so those were the ones I looked at first. Those were the ones about the Eevees and the finances, mainly.

And what sort of financial state are we looking at?

Irresponsible though he might have been with his management of the Eevees, it seems he was meticulous about his money and possessed a fair amount of foresight. He left behind an account with an established payment plan and directions on how to execute it; at the current rate and the apparent sum in the account, this house's rent has been paid off for the next four and a half years.

Apparently what our benefactor lacked in companionship, he made up for in work ethic. Despite being a breeder, he never sold his Pokemon's eggs for profit; he made all of his money living a frugal life and working a desk job at the Pokemon Center.

...All right, then. I'll want to look over that as well, if you don't mind.

[Because it isn't exactly comforting for a few reasons, though he can at least respect the effort that's been put in; just the same...mnnngh. Things like this are never really good topics, as far as Ishimaru goes.

[Because naturally their SHSL Rich Boy wants to get all up in their finances, too. And given Togami-kun's experience in matters of that variety, it's not like she could validly complain.]

Why wouldn't I like it?

[...if it wouldn't so ridiculously uncalled-for, he would be more than willing to go with his kneejerk reaction of "Because it's you," but thankfully he will refrain.]

Well, you've told me a lot of facts about it, that's all - I wanted to know what you think.

[He's clearly trying to sound casual about it, but the words are more than slightly awkward; he's not accustomed to just asking people that, not straight-out, not without covering it behind multiple layers of duty and obligation, and he twitches a little once it's out there. As though he's not sure it's something that he should be asking directly.]

[She kind of just looks at him a minute, expression giving nothing away as she regards him with a searching gaze, and then finally concludes the scrutiny with a sort of effortless shrug.]

It looks big enough for all of us.

[And that seems to lead her into the real answer.]

Fujisaki-kun and Asahina-san were off on their own when they disappeared. If we're all together again...maybe we'll stand a better chance. Kuwata-kun and Hagakure-kun are heading this way now, too.

[She can scrutinize all she likes, really; Ishimaru isn't exactly looking at her, though he isn't trying to turn away from her, either - it's more that his gaze is focused rather intently just over her left shoulder, looking in her general direction without really looking at her, but hey, it's close enough.

And it's easier than dealing with that stare of hers, but still.]

...That thought crossed my mind as well - that we should try to stay together as best we can.

[He pauses for a moment; considers.]

Naegi-kun seemed...upset, regarding what happened with Fujisaki-kun and Asahina-kun; he seems better now.

[There's a question in there somewhere; he doesn't seem too inclined to go after it directly.]

...wait. Wait. Hmmm, is he—

I'd imagine Oowada-kun felt similarly.

[Is that what you're doing, Ishimaru-kun. Is this a roundabout way of trying to check up on each other. Let's find out.]

[He seems to relax a bit at that; the severity in his expression doesn't fade any, but the tension in his posture does.

He took it better than I thought he would, actually - he seemed bothered, of course, but he recovered quickly! He should be fine for now; he's still a bit troubled, but that comes and goes.

That's understandable, particularly in the case of Fujisaki-kun. But it's Asahina-san's return that's probably more troubling, isn't it? She's the only one with any uncertainty about what comes next.
