[By the time Dave catches up with him, John has relocated himself to his Dusknoir's shoulders. He can totally see his house from up here! No, okay, he obviously can't because his house hasn't been anything but a memory for years now. And now it's not even a physically-manifested dreambubble construct. It's just all in his head.]

[There's a brief moment of blank staring from John at the birdboy in front of him. Then his face cracks into a grin as he slides off his Dusknoir. This probably puts him way below eye level, but that's okay. He opens his arms up towards Dave, that same goofy Egbertian smile still plastered to his face. Because some things will never change, no matter how long you exist: be it a normal human lifespan or uncountable ghost years.]

Hey. It's been a while.

[Longer for him than you could imagine. So long that the concept of "my Dave" no longer really has meaning. Kind of hard for that not to happen, considering that rarely is anybody in the dreambubbles the "right" version. Eventually you get used to that just being how things are, you take what you can get, and you're content with it. Especially since, in John's case, he knew there was no chance he'd ever get a chance to see "his" Dave. That was kind of the whole point of his Choice. Dave gets to go back and be a hero, and he...well he hangs out in some Horrorterror snoresnot and hopes that maybe one day he'll get the chance to see Rose, since she's the only one from their timeline that could feasibly join him. Only that's not what happened.]
